CH.623 Fissure in a City

CH.623 Fissure in a City

Today what I expected to happen while I was in the Monster World happened. … kind of.

I actually just got a System Agent visiting the Factory to warn me of an upcoming fissure. But still, I knew my fissure senses were tingling. They were just way early.

As for why the warning was so important, it is because of the location of the fissure. It will appear in the Narra Kingdom’s capital, within the capital’s walls.

Yeah. I don’t think I need to tell you why that is bad. Because it is honestly beyond bad. It is terrible.

Keeping a city safe when there is a fissure in it, or directly above it, won’t be easy.

I immediately tried to contact the Narra Royal Family. They have phones since I gave them a few. My call was answered by a high ranking officer, who was apparently in charge of the phone I called, which should have been with the King, so I asked him to take it to the King.

At first he didn’t want to take the phone to the King, or even someone like the prime minister. After hearing that the capital will be destroyed if he doesn’t, he took off somewhere.

It took some steps, and some hushed whispers that I still heard, before the phone was handed to someone whose voice I recognized.

“Sir Wood. This is Humza Tanner, prime minister of Narra Kingdom. I heard you knew that something awful will happen to our beautiful capital. Would you tell me more about it?” The prime minister, whom I’ve met when I delivered the free phones to the Narra Kingdom royals, re-introduced himself over the phone.

“I know who you are, Marquess Tanner.” I said, purposefully sounding a bit peeved off. I was a just a little because I hate having to deal with someone I didn’t call. I gave you the phone, the least you can do is answer it. “Can you tell me why, when I call the phone I gifted to His Majesty, that I don’t reach His Majesty?”

“Sir, surely you understand that His Majesty can’t answer every…”

“How many calls does he get a day? Actually, don’t answer that, as I know the answer. He gets three to five calls a week. If he can’t answer that, why don’t I just shut off every phone I gave you?”

“Sir, you are being unreasonable.”

“I know. Here I am, trying to figure out how to save your city, and I have to deal with some moron who wants to know too much.” I complained to Tanner. “So why don’t you get rid of him, or do I need to track down how you spread the gifted phones and return them to where they were supposed to be?”

Again, I actually know exactly where each of the phones are. They have tracking chips. I have a network to locate things, so I’m not about to let someone steal my phones, at least not without me being able to track them down.

I took a deep breath to calm myself back down, as complaining like that did get me a bit heated. It isn’t their fault that they are morons. … well it is, but I can’t blame them too much for it.

“Now, the situation is this…” I began, and explained the upcoming fissure to Tanner, using the ‘misma blob curse’ lie instead of the truth.

By the end of the explanation, the prime minister realized just how much trouble their city was in. And thanks to that, we could actually work on some solutions.

Well, potential solutions.

The problem was that we wouldn’t know the exact placement of the fissure until the pre-sign shows up. And depending on the exact location, we need to consider different options.

Sadly putting a barrier around the city isn’t an option. Because the fissure could spawn inside the barrier and then the barrier will just keep the damage in.

In short, we need a deployable barrier that can seal off the fissure area, and is strong enough to keep SS-ranks monsters inside.

I can probably use a card or two to make something like that. But it might cause some problems for people on the ground. And that is if the fissure spawns high enough in the air.

If it spawns in the middle of a street or something, there is basically nothing I can do. Or at most there is very little. I can keep the monsters confined to some area of the city, that way we can keep the damage contained to a small area, but if we can’t evacuate the people from that area, a lot of people will die.

Because of that, I needed them to get their knights ready to evacuate the part of the city that will be closest to the fissure. Fixing buildings is much easier than resurrecting people. And that isn’t a lie. Even with the ease at which I can resurrect people, making stone buildings is even easier. I have tons and tons of dirt and stone in Storage from the Quarry, and I can just have Spellcaster and Rock-type monsters shape it and make a building out of it. I can make a basic building in like … well pretty quickly.

And since this world has minimal plumbing and no electricity or gas, I don’t even have to worry about those sorts of things.

So yeah. Rebuilding isn’t as difficult as it sounds, as long as we can keep the damage minimal.

Also, a reminder that when resurrecting people, unless their bodies are in good shape, they will just die again. So we’d need to heal everyone and then resurrect everyone. Much more work than rebuilding.

Just three days later, the day of the fissure arrived.

I had moved HomeBase close to the capital for this, as I wanted to have additional firepower nearby if I needed it. And if the fissure does appear in the air, I can just park HomeBase between the fissure and the city for additional defense, as the HomeBase barrier will stop anything the fissure tries to throw at it.

Sadly it didn’t come to that, as the pre-sign of the fissure was quickly spotted in a large market square in the city.

Which is kind of a good thing. The square has no buildings and a decent bit of space. Bad thing, the buildings surrounding it are valuable properties owned by high end merchants.

There were also two different inns, so they’d have to be evacuated. The entire market would have to be closed and so on. It would definitely hurt the city, but better than mass death.

Luckily the Prime Minister actually did his job, as did the knights, and they managed to clear the area. Now it was up to me to actually deal with the fissure. Without hopefully destroying everything.

Sadly, despite the fact that we have a decently large market square, there is no way we have enough space. Some of the closest buildings will get destroyed. And I don’t know if the shop owners were allowed to take their wares.

… wait. Can’t I just … Storage all the buildings? I think I can. Sure I have to detach them from the ground, but that should be doable. Then when everything is over, I can just place them back.

I quickly flew to the captain of the royal knights, who was nearby in case I needed extra men and asked for his opinion. He said that if the buildings would be destroyed anyway that I can do whatever I need to do.

So I summoned the superior spirit of Earth, Gaia, did a spirit synchro with her, and we one by one detached each house and put them into Storage.

The captain looked at me like I was crazy or something as I did that, but I just told him it was necessary. I then asked him to pull all of his men out of the now larger area I had cleared.

Next was putting up a barrier so the rest of the city would be safe. I used the classic Wall of Revealing Light, with 15,000 HP, for that. Yeah 15,000 is way overkill, but I’m not about to take any chances.

Spoiler

I then had Lua heal me back to full HP. Yes she was with me in the barrier, as were Alice and Unika. Wilma and Cailie were just outside in case they were needed, but I had them wait outside as they are a bit lower in level than the rest of us.

I summoned Exodia and then pulled out Errelitea, filling it with mana and cutting open the fissure. Since a pre-sign was already there, I could use Errelitea to cut it open, instead of activating Dimensional Fissure.

Spoiler

Exodia immediately got to work fixing the fissure while the rest of us waited for some monster to appear.

And oh boy did one appear. A massive earthworm, easily more than 50 meters long, slithered out of the fissure and was headed for the ground, but Alice quickly turned the ground into an inferno, causing it to recoil and search for a different spot to get into the ground.

Unika began firing arrows at it, each one exploding and burning parts of the worm. Lua also gave all the fire some support with Wind Magic.

Meanwhile, I charged Errelitea up with mana and prepared to cut the worm into pieces. I needed to cut it down to size, as some of it was still in the fissure hole, and we needed to pull it out before Exodia could close the fissure.

When I found my opportunity, I used a mix of Mana Flight, Windeg Flight, Shining Wings and Flickering Step to move at very high speeds, cutting the worm in half. Well not really in half, as I don’t know how much of it was still inside the fissure, but I cut about 30 meters off of the 50 meters that had been showing.

I left the cut half to the girls, while I grabbed the other with Magical Arms and started pulling it out of the fissure. By the time it was all out, the second half was about 40 meters long, meaning that this worm was about 70 meters long in total. Crazy earthworms.

I then used Time Magic to slow down both halves so they couldn’t try to dig into the ground, before I focused all my efforts on the longer half. With it being slower, I used Time Magic to accelerate myself, before running down the worm's length and slicing it in half with Errelitea.

And since my sword ignores all defense, it honestly was like cutting butter with a hot knife.

I then looked at the cut halves, noticing multiple monster cores in the worm. I used Magical Arms and Telekinesis to remove them from the worm, and placed them into Storage. With that, this half of the worm was done and stopped moving.

I let the girls deal with the other half, which they did by feeding it a ton of fire, followed by a Solar Beam from Unika. That is actually the name of the spell. Yes, it annoys me. It should have just been a Solarbeam.

Then we just hanged back and waited for more monsters to show up, but luckily for the city, nothing else came through and Exodia managed to close the fissure. I unsummoned him and let down the barrier so the knights could come in and assess the damage.

The square wasn’t in terrible shape, all things considered. The worm had broken the tiling in many places, and the Fire Magic had left some of it blackened, but that was still relatively minor damage considering that we fought an SS-rank worm here. At least there were no giant holes in the ground.

There were also foot imprints left by Exodia, but again, those are not that bad to fix. I’ll let the city fix all of that damage, and at most help them financially or with materials. Should help people have some jobs.

But before we could escape the place, I had to put the buildings back in their places, so I summoned Gaia again, and we just did the same as we did last time, but in reverse. She also made sure the foundations were even stronger than before, and that any damage they may have suffered was fixed. That was done by taking some stone material from Storage.

And before you ask, yes, I am able to float an entire building with Telekinesis. It is difficult and I can’t do it for long, but if I just need to do it for a few moments, I can. And it has to be separated from the foundations, or I can’t do it.

But we are done here. So we are leaving. I have a new set and packs need to be opened.

The set in question is .
