CH.622 Video about Varuna
CH.622 Video about Varuna
“So, Nir.” I spoke to my wolf. “Now that you’ve tested yourself against the not so ice giant, are you ready to undergo some hyper training?”
{I suppose so.} Nir answered. {The fight confirmed I am not worthy of you, as even with your help, I wasn’t able to defeat my opponent. But you awakened the giant and helped me fight it, so I will go along with what you want.}
“Thanks.” I then turned to Varuna as I needed to ask him something. “Nir’s evolution will take some time. Can we use this cavern for that? It seems quite safe.”
{This land does not belong to me.} Varuna answered. {I was simply tossed here by chance. As such, you do not need my permission to use it.}
“I see. Well, that solves that issue.” I noted. “Nir, do you need a snack before I use the card? I’m not sure how long it will take, but it might take a day or two.”
{I would appreciate it, Master.} Nir answered.
I brought some food out for Nir, and as he was eating, I used the Spiritual Fire Art - Kurenai and Burning Algae combo to warm up Varuna. It wouldn’t help him recover the water that was frozen off of him, but it would help him stay warm until I can get him to an environment more suited for his needs.
I also set up some bedding for Nir. It was just some hides from D-rank monsters, so even if I never recover them, it isn’t a big loss.
After Nir ate his snack, I got out the custom Rank-Up.
“Are you ready?” I asked.
{Please.} Nir answered.
“Alrighty then. Rank-Up-Magic Hyper Learning Force!” I said to activate the spell.
As the spell activated, Nir seemingly got extremely tired, curled up on the monster hides and soon enough he was asleep. I was a bit tempted to wake him up, just to see if I could, but instead I just decided to put some defenses around him so he could evolve in peace.
I took out a few more hides and used them as a makeshift blanket. I don’t think Nir will get cold, but just in case.
I also got a basic table out of Storage and loaded it with food. I then put a Time Magic barrier around it, something that should last little over a week if nothing interrupts it. It will keep all the food inside perfectly warm for Nir when he wakes up. And the barrier is quite weak to physical attacks so he can just smash it with his claws to access his meal.
“Alright. That is done.” It wasn’t like it was impossible to get to Nir, but he said the passage here was a secret anyway, and who would want to come here to see the frozen giant if they already have seen it. Because of that, I didn’t do anything too much. I just tossed a teleportation seal onto the ground so I could teleport here easier. “Varuna, we are leaving.” I told the water … thing.
What is Varuna actually? He is kind of like a water spirit, but also not, as he has miasma in his body. So a mix of a water spirit and a water sprite? Maybe. I’ll run some experiments when I get him to HomeBase.
“Actually, Varuna, how small can you make yourself and still be yourself?” I asked, because the answer would change our travel method.
{My battle capabilities fall if I make myself smaller, but I don’t have to be larger than your head to keep all of my memories and knowledge.} He answered.
“... okay then. You can regain all that mass, right?”
{As long as I have pure water.}
“Then do it. … actually just a second. Let’s use that water to freeze the entrance. Nir will be able to smash through it. “
{As you wish.} Varuna agreed.
He dissipated most of his water just around the room, leaving enough for the wall we were making to block the entrance. I used some Prism-Ice Magic to freeze it, and we left.
On the outside, I summoned my Space-Jet Dragon. Had I had to transport the huge Varuna, I probably would have teleported. But since Varuna is now the size of a newborn baby, he can easily fit into my ship, and to let him enjoy the views. Because once I get him to HomeBase, he might not be able to do so as much.
Having the smaller Varuna looking out of the window and calling out some of the things he sees, especially now with his higher pitched, childish sounding voice, really made me feel … something. Like that I had a kid in the backseat and I was his father driving him to soccer practice or something.
I wonder if my kids will be like that? I wonder when should we start considering them? Well, we aren’t married yet, so I need to figure out where and when we will be having our wedding.
I’ll think about that later.
Once we reached the portal, I just walked us both through, while keeping an eye on my mana. I wasn’t 100% sure that bringing Varuna through wouldn’t cause him to drain mana from me, but I think it won’t.
Luckily, after walking through the portal, no abnormal mana drain was placed on me and Varuna was instead just pulling mana from the air like any tamed monster would.
With that confirmed, I began showing him the HomeBase. Sure he will live in the dungeon, not on the surface, but there technically could be a time when I need him up here, so I want him to know this area.
While doing so, I also told his story while recording it on my phone, which I levitated with Telekinesis. I wanted to upload it so others would hear it. I’ve never heard any legends about Varuna, or the Hero and Saint combo that fought him, but there might be some records about it.
Besides, hearing stories from beings that have actually experienced them is kind of cool, so I’m sure people with phones, or Factory access, will enjoy hearing the story.
… It will also let me send an edited version of the video to HomeBase employees, so they’ll know about the new monster on the island without me having to explain it to everyone.
After I was done with the video and the tour, I teleported us to floor 49 of the dungeon. This would be Varuna’s new home. For those who don’t remember, floor 49 is one of the ocean floors of HomeBase. It is based on water, wind and dark attributes, causing the floor to be nearly extremely dark, have high winds and massive waves. The sea is also filled with dark sharks and winged fishes, and there were also wraiths that could come out of nowhere.
And from now on, a water god. I let Varuna into the water and he grew massive in size. He was even larger than he was when he was frozen, and with all that water in his body, he quickly showed the monsters on this floor why he will now be the one in charge.
I then teleported to the HomeBase Quarry, as I wanted to run a quick test. As I said earlier, Varuna is kind of like a spirit. And while our contract is more like a taming contract than a summoning one, I think I can still summon Varuna and I wanted to test it out. The Quarry was just a decent place to do it at, as it is in the middle of nowhere.
Once there, I tried to summon Varuna like I would summon a spirit, but that didn’t work. So instead, I tried Summoning Magic, and that one was successful. But I only got a tiny Varuna, no larger than the one I brought with me from the Monster World. So I can summon him, but only his core will come and he will need water in the area he is summoned to.
Good to know if I ever need extra power when I fight in an ocean.
I also learned another interesting thing about Varuna. Because while his core was summoned to my side, his watery body still kept acting for some time, until it ran out of mana and splashed into the floor 49 sea. So his ‘body’ can move without the core while it has mana, and it follows his orders as long as it can.
Now, to relax a bit after everything that happened in the monster world, I think I’ll open some packs. And I’ll do some reprints, just because I can.
Reprint set of choice being the .
As you might expect from a reprint set, nothing new. But I did get a Cyber Dragon, Cyber End Dragon and Rainbow Dragon all in the same pack.
Next pack.
Super Polymerization is … I’ve never experimented with it, as it feels kind of iffy. But I could probably do some crazy things with it. Like if I fuse a human with a spider monster, do I just turn them into an arachne or do I make something else? These are the kinds of questions I could ask, but I’m not sure if I want to ask them.
Next pack.
Dark End Dragon? Didn’t expect to see that in this set.
Next pack.
“Oh Master. You got another copy of me. I hope they won’t replace me in your heart.” I heard a voice behind me. It was the unique mix of masculine and feminine that could only belong to one monster.
“Hi Yubel. Came to try something again?” I asked.
“Of course not, Master. Who do you take me for?”
“A monster so crazy in love she found a way to break my skill?”
“Hehe. I guess I did that.” Yubel giggled. “But can you blame me? If I didn’t, someone with more malicious intent would have. Besides, it is my time to be out, so I didn’t even break out this time.”
I turned to look at her, yes I know she doesn’t have a solid gender but for me, Yubel is always female. I blame the English dub for that. And indeed, Yubel was properly dressed in a maids uniform and had brought me the tea that I asked for as I began opening packs.
“... alright. You got me there. … actually no. How can you see the Pack Opener? I didn’t open it for others to see.”
“It is the power of love, Master.” Yubel said.
“... no it isn’t.” I stated. “If it was, Alice at least could see it.”
“... no it isn’t.” Yubel admitted. “We can see it as we are products of the skill.”
“Oh. … okay. Doesn’t really matter but good to know.”
“Of course. I shall inform you of everything we can do with the power of love.” Yubel said. “Oh! I know what comes next. May I?”
“... go for it.” I gave her permission.
“Next!” She called out, and as she did, she clapped her hands. “Pack!” She said, with another clap.
“Vennominaga. You should visit her in the Factory. You know she is happy that you used her in that tournament, but disappointed that you have barely ever summoned her and have never used her in an actual battle.” Yubel said.
“Yeah, I know. But there is only one of me and thousands of you. I can’t clone myself.”
“You mean you can’t clone yourself yet?”
“... maybe. But still. And I can’t just use someone with literal instant kill poison all the time. That is too dangerous.”
“Just consider it.” Yubel said. “Next pack!” She called out while clapping again.
“You didn’t get any more of me.” Yubel noted. “I don’t know if I’m happy or disappointed by that.”
“You can be both.” I told her. “Thanks for the tea, and I guess the company as well, but you better get back to your duties before Sheou decides you are just playing around.”
“Yes Master.” Yubel said, as she loaded my empty tea cup onto the cart and pushed it out of my room.
What do you think?
