What Do You Mean There Are Other Transmigrators In My Harem Fantasy?

Chapter 976: We Got Caught Up In Their Problem

I sighed at the group in front of us, my mind internally questioning why we would be so unlucky to meet these people here.

I held up my hand, "I'm not being attacked, ok? I asked him to show me his Kalomancy and that's what he was doing. He wasn't attacking me with those monsters of his."

The others paused and looked at Bob, then at me, before finally settling on Bob.

Bob nodded at them, "It is as she said… She wanted to learn Kalomancy from me so I was giving her a demonstration before you guys came charging in."

The leader of that group turned to frown at me, "Wait… Does that mean we were mistaken?"

I nodded, "That's right. No one here needs rescuing."

The four of them looked at each other in confusion.

"But… We definitely heard someone yelling for help earlier before we got here…"

I frowned, "You heard someone yelling for help? We heard nothing here though?"

The longsword guy looked completely confused, "Wait… We really did hear someone calling for help in this direction which was why we rushed here in the first place… I definitely heard it!"

The other girls behind him also nodded in agreement.

"We heard it too, some woman was shouting for help in this direction…"

"That's right… We even heard screams just moments before we entered this clearing so it's not like we jumped to conclusions without cause…"

"Weren't you screaming at all, missus?"

I turned to look at Bob and he gave me an equally confused look.

"We definitely did not hear any screaming though?" Bob told them.

I was just about to back him up when the sound of glass shattering could be heard.

All of us looked around to find the source of the noise right before something shiny was shot out from the undergrowth towards our direction.

I thought it was heading towards me until I realised it was flying past me instead and would not have hit me even if I didn't move.

"Watch out!" Someone shouted from behind.

When I turned back, I saw the Inugami girl rushing in front of the longsword guy to slash out her dagger in front, parrying the shiny thing that had been aimed at him from the very start.

The shiny thing then revealed itself to be a throwing knife as it spun through the air before sticking itself into the ground.

What the?

"Shit! It's them!!" The longsword guy shouted, raising his sword up defensively.

Them? What is going on?

No, what I'm sure of is that we're currently under attack.

"Bob! I'll cover you!" I shouted, moving in front of him with my two swords unsheathed.

He gave me a nod before he stretched out his hand, summoning another crystal in front of him.

The other group had also arranged themselves into a defensive formation with their backs against each other's, watching the trees as our unseen assailant was still hiding in the bushes.

Another glint of metal caught my eye, this time from the opposite side of where I first saw it.

Once again, another throwing knife was thrown in the direction of the longsword guy but since he was ready for it, he spun his sword in front of him and successfully deflected it away.

Right then, another two more throwing knives were thrown, all of them aimed at the longsword guy while he was still recovering from his swing.

Is it just me or are they specifically targeting this guy?

The Inugami girl from earlier rushed out to deflect the throwing knives away with her daggers just like before, protecting her party leader from the attacks.

Whoever was attacking must have also grown impatient at all the failed attempts as a rustle could be heard somewhere before an entire hail of throwing knives flew out from all directions around us.

This time, we were even targeted but it felt like it was more because we were in the way instead of whoever was attacking intentionally targeting us.

Fortunately for me, this wasn't a big problem as I only needed to focus my strength into my arms before swinging both my swords forward.

The gale I created with my sword swing blew the knives headed for us away, leaving us untouched.

As for the other group, it seemed like it was the Mahun girl's time to shine as she hefted the tower shield she had been carrying and slammed it onto the ground.

"[Fortress Of Solitude]!"

Four more translucent shields appeared around her ground, deflecting the knives away easily and leaving them unharmed.

"I see them!" The Trasif cried out, drawing on her bowstring to ready her arrow.

She tracked her target through the bushes before releasing her arrow, the projectile flying into the undergrowth at a blinding speed.

She must have hit her target as a cry of pain emanated from the bushes which was followed by the sound of something falling on to the ground.

Just as I thought we got the perpetrator, another throwing knife came from another direction, once again targeting the longsword guy.

That means there's actually more than one enemy…

I mean, I already suspected as much given how many throwing knives were being thrown but it could always just be some guy who was moving incredibly fast.

Also, it's kind of obvious that the longsword guy was the clear target for this attack so I'm wondering if he pissed off someone.

He was most likely lured here by those guys and both Bob and I were just unlucky enough to be at the exact spot where they wanted to ambush him.

And instead of changing the location, they probably decided that adding us to the casualty list wasn't a problem for them.

The crystal that Bob had been channeling glowed and it transformed into a large stone golem who immediately sat itself down to cover us with its body, leaving only a small opening with its hands so that we could see what was happening to the other group.

Honestly, I wasn't really planning for this but since those bastards also tried to kill us, we might as well work together.

I waved at them, "Hey! Get over here if you want to live!"

The four of them saw our improvised bunker and immediately made a run towards us.

Obviously, their attackers weren't going to just let them run like that so another hail of throwing knives were launched towards them.

The Inugami and Mahun girls did their best to protect the rest of their party but one of the knives managed to get through their guard and struck the Inugami girl in the thigh.

She almost fell forward but the longsword guy managed to grab her and toss her towards the safety of Bob's golem before diving into the space himself.

The golem then closed up its hands, just in time to block several throwing knives that came from the front and deflecting them away with its rocky hands.

"Ughh… My leg…" The Inugami groaned, holding her thigh that still had the knife embedded in it.

"Hold still, let me see," The longsword guy requested, kneeling beside her.

He reached forward and pulled the knife out, causing the girl to let out a moan of pain before he chanted the spell for [Close Wounds].

Seems like he's also a healer huh?

I waited until he was done before nodding at him, "So… Care to tell us what's going on? Since it looks like these guys are after you and we seem to be caught up in your mess."

The longsword guy grimaced, "Alright… I suppose that's obvious enough… But let's just say that we're a Mercenary party that took up a job to dismantle an underground organisation from a client of ours. We destroyed one of their bases and the leader of that organisation got pissed at us so they've been sending assassins after us for some time now. This must be their latest attempt in trying to kill us…"

Great… So I guess I was right that Bob and I had really bad luck in choosing this spot to practice… We really got ourselves caught up in someone else's business.

I gave him a serious look, "So how do you intend to get us out of this situation then?"

He lifted his longsword again, "Well… I was intending to climb up this golem and jump into the forest to start cutting them down. They picked a nice spot where there's a large ground to cover from the clearing to the trees so under normal circumstances, I would be filled with holes before I even reach them. But with this, I should be able to close the distance before they can stop me and once I do, they're done."

"Are you sure about that?" I asked, giving him a doubtful look.

Unexpectedly, his companions were the ones who answered me.

"He can do it."

"He just sucks at ranged attacks."

"If he can get close to the enemy, they're finished."

Hmm… Alright then… Guess I'll just let him try instead of calling Katsuki for now…

But if he fucks up, I'm definitely calling for her.
