Chapter 975: Another Weirdo
I explained my Mana Crystal theory to him and, as expected, Bob has no idea what I'm talking about.
He doesn't even understand the concept of how this spell works so I wasn't surprised to find out that he doesn't know about this either.
But still, this gave me a place to start with.
In order to learn this, I most likely need to learn how to form a Mana Crystal with my mana somehow.
I tried doing something like concentrating my mana into one location but all that did was drain my mana out of my body pointlessly.
Heck, if it was that simple to do so, people could just materialise Mana Crystals to sell them instead of hunting monsters for them.
Maybe I'll have to ask someone who is more knowledgeable about this subject.
I made Bob summon a few more monsters and all of them had the same starting sequence of the crystal materialising before they formed into monsters.
The person himself also confirmed that as far as he knew, this was also the norm so there was nothing weird about it.
I even had him try to summon a wyvern which was what he's doing right now.
The crystal floated in front of him and he had his eyes closed while he concentrated on the spell.
He's been standing there for the past two minutes already by the way.
I continued trying to crystallise a Mana Crystal with my mana but it was obviously not working as well as I would have liked.
This time I was just holding a portion of my mana in the air and holding it there hoping that it would eventually form into a Mana Crystal if it was held there for long enough.
Despite me holding it there for as long as Bob had been trying to summon a wyvern, I don't see any changes at all.
And seeing that his crystal was already beginning to change, I gave up on this idea to turn my attention to his new summon.
A full sized red wyvern popped into existence in front of him, the monster not even making a sound as it swung its head around to look at him.
"So it takes that long to summon a monster this big?" I mused.
He shook his head, "Not always. I believe the time needed is tied to how much mana the species of monster usually has so I would need more time to drain my mana to create it."
So if I were to just create a giant golem that doesn't have that much mana, it wouldn't take as long as this wyvern even though they're about the same size."
"Oh, so if you were to try and summon some really strong monster that is human sized, you might also take just as long?"
"That's right."
I tapped my chin with a finger, "Interesting… So the time you take is just you pouring your mana into the spell?"
"Kind of? I don't really know the details but I just instinctively know what I'm supposed to do I guess."
"Can you unsummon it?"
"I'll need to do a spirit bind first. Give me a moment…"
He pointed his palm towards the wyvern and he closed his eyes once more, holding the pose for a few seconds before the wyvern got wrapped in light and disappeared.
"So if you are spirit binded to a summon, you can just erase it just like that? And if you're not, you can't?"
He shrugged, "I'm not too sure actually… This is just what I've always been doing… But I know if I don't do this first, I can't do it, which is why I couldn't just delete all those monsters the bandits were using. Though it might be because of the fact that they were spirit binded to other things…"
"How many summons can you spirit bind to yourself?"
He scratched his head, "Honestly… I never really tested the limits myself… So I'm not sure…"
"A hundred?"
"I don't know… And I think it also depends on the strength of the creatures too. So maybe I could spirit bind like a hundred goblins but maybe two wyverns is my limit or something?"
"Hmm… Do you have enough mana to summon a group of monsters right now?"
"Uhhh… Yeah. As long as they're not really big ones."
"Then could I see you summoning a group and soul binding them? I want to see if I can see a difference in your mana or something."
He nodded and stretched out his arms to the side, prompting several crystals to appear in front of him.
I watched as the crystals changed to transform into humanoid figures, turning them into goblins numbering ten in total.
Not done yet, he maintained his pose and I believe he was soul binding the goblins to himself as I had requested.
I tried to see if anything changed about the goblins but nothing special seemed to happen when Bob lowered his hands.
"That's it," He announced.
That was fast, and he linked up with ten of them all at the same time.
I stood in front of the goblins and frowned slightly, "There doesn't seem to be any difference between a soul binded one and another that isn't soul binded… Could you summon one more that isn't soul binded?"
He wordlessly lifted up his palm once more and another goblin appeared.
Just as I was about to inspect the new goblin, a shout came from the side and I turned to see a group of four people charging in.
I thought they were bandits and was about to move to intercept when the person at the front let out a shout, "Secure the girl! Don't let her get attacked by the monsters! I'll take care of the tamer!"
Err… What?
Looking at Bob, he seemed to be just as confused as I was but he reacted quickly to the threat as the leader, who was a male Mahun, rushed towards him with his longsword.
The other three, who were all female and a mix of a Trasif, Mahun and an Inugami, ran towards me instead.
The goblins that Bob had summoned arranged themselves in a defensive formation in front of their summoner while the longsword guy charged towards them fealessly.
"Trying to rape a beautiful girl in the middle of the forest with some goblins?! How shameless can you be?!" The guy shouted.
Uwaa… How are you able to say such cringy lines so naturally? Don't tell me…
The guy slashed his sword down and cut the first goblin into half easily before raising his sword to block the second goblin from lunging at him with the flat of his blade.
He then spun in a circle which launched the goblin flying back to crash into the goblins behind him, sending them tumbling on the ground like bowling pins.
The Inugami girl reached me first and stretched out her hand to me with a smile on her face, "You are safe now, don't worry!"
I ignored her and turned back to see the guy cutting down another two goblins which opened the path for him to lunge towards Bob who was still trying to create distance between them.
I suppose I should do something to solve this misunderstanding?
Right as the longsword guy was going to reach Bob, I kicked off the ground and caught up to him, appearing above him with my leg stretched above my head.
He blinked when he realised there was the appearance of a shadow over his face but didn't have the time to look in my direction before I slammed my heel on his back and smashed him onto the ground.
I stood there with my heel still on his back to look at Bob, "You ok?"
He gulped, "Ah… Ah… Yes… Thank you."
The three girls that tried to rush towards me stood at where they were with stunned expressions on their faces.
It took them a good long minute before they finally realised that I was stepping on their leader and they let out cries of indignation.
"What are you doing?!"
"We were trying to save you!"
"Get off our leader right now!"
I was about to say something when another voice came from below me.
"Ahhh~ Haa… Haa… Yessshhh mommy…"
I looked down and I realised the guy was shivering and even rubbing his back against my heel.
What the heck?!
I immediately moved away from him and he even let out a groan of disappointment before he quickly shut his mouth and scrambled to his feet.
"He… Hey! I… I was trying to help you so… Why did you give me that reward-- I mean… Why did you attack me?!"
All of us just stared at the guy.
Judging by the fact that his team mates were also looking at him with the same face I was, I think this is the first time they have seen this side of him as well.
Why is it that I keep meeting weird people?
What do you think?
