Chapter 28 Drink My Wine? Who Do You Think You Are?
At this moment, everyone present was from the upper echelons of Hong Kong Island. When the young man spoke, the expressions of the others in the room turned somewhat subtle. Many people looked at Lei Luo with interest, as if waiting for a show.
Shirley also withdrew her hand and rested her chin, watching how Lei Luo would respond.
“Mr. He, Lei Luo is my friend, the star of tonight’s event,” James, the host of the gathering, immediately spoke up.
Upon hearing this, Lei Luo understood who the young man was. In the Chinese community on Hong Kong Island, only a few could command the respect of a foreigner like James calling them “Mr.”
He was He Xi, one of the five richest men on Hong Kong Island. Coming from the reputable Yi He Trading Company, he made his fortune through land speculation and expanded into finance, becoming a powerful tycoon.
James was interested in developing the Kowloon Stronghold land, and the He family was an excellent partner for such a venture. However, it seemed that He Xi’s son didn’t have a favorable view of Lei Luo.
The He family’s success on Hong Kong Island was closely tied to the government’s upper ranks. They were like the white-collar elite of the Hong Kong government, and even someone like James was somewhat insignificant before them.
Lei Luo passed by James and pulled out a chair, sitting directly in front of He Xi’s son.
“I wonder if Mr. He has an issue with me?” Lei Luo asked with a smile.
But He Xi’s son ignored him completely, leaning in to kiss the woman next to him, causing her to playfully scold him. James’s face darkened at the sight, but he didn’t say anything.
Lei Luo remained calm, picking up a cup and setting three glasses on the table. He then opened a bottle of foreign liquor and filled all three glasses.
He Xi’s son sneered when he saw this.
“What? You want to punish yourself with three drinks? What kind of person do you think you are, trying to punish yourself in front of me?”
“You don’t even deserve to drink in front of me.”
“Chief Investigator? You’re just a dog.”
His words were incredibly disrespectful, and even the others in the room were starting to feel uncomfortable. In the business world, harmony, even if only on the surface, was important.
Lei Luo’s face remained calm.
“Whether I have the qualifications, Mr. He, is not for you to decide.”
“Business is business. If we get along, we work together. If we don’t, we part ways. That’s normal.”
“I come from humble origins, my life worth nothing. It’s natural for Mr. He to look down on me.”
“I’ll drink these three cups, and I guarantee that you, Mr. He, will return home safely tonight.”
Lei Luo’s voice was calm, but the last sentence carried an icy chill that sent a shiver down the spine of everyone present. He lifted his head slightly, the smile on his face disappearing, replaced by a cold, piercing gaze. The overwhelming pressure from his aura made He Xi’s son feel suffocated!
Even those who weren’t facing Lei Luo couldn’t help but take a few steps back. Shirley’s eyes lit up, sensing Lei Luo’s undeniable charisma. James, standing behind Lei Luo, also found himself out of breath, unsure of how to react. Three glasses, one bottle of liquor.
He Xi’s son gritted his teeth, his face turning grim.
“You’re threatening me, aren’t you?”
“It’s normal for some criminals to break out tonight in Kowloon,” he retorted.
Ding.
Lei Luo opened his lighter and pulled out a cigarette, lighting it. The smoke swirled up, and the wisp of white smoke hit He Xi’s son’s face. At that moment, He Xi’s son truly realized the murderous intent in Lei Luo’s eyes!
The previous mockery and calm demeanor vanished, replaced by a feeling of deep anxiety!
He looked around at the others, but no one dared speak up.
Even James, Lei Luo’s nominal superior, averted his gaze. It was then that Shirley stood up again, walking over to Lei Luo and picking up one of the glasses.
“Mr. He misspoke. I’ll apologize on his behalf and drink this on his behalf.”
“We’re all here for business development tonight. Harmony leads to prosperity.”
Shirley raised her glass, took a small sip, and then drank the whole glass in one go. James led the applause, and the others followed, raising their glasses in solidarity.
James leaned forward behind Lei Luo, quietly and elaborately explaining Shirley’s background. It turned out that Shirley was the illegitimate daughter of a prominent family from the White-Headed Eagle, a powerful faction. Her father doted on her greatly but, due to her status, had to send her to Hong Kong. However, her father also gave her a business, a grain and oil company in South Asia.
Hearing about the grain and oil company, Lei Luo’s interest was piqued. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to solve the food problem in mainland China. He had been looking for a way to assist with that issue, and now the chance had presented itself.
Lei Luo, using the momentum, picked up his second glass, raised it to Shirley, and drank it in one go. At this point, He Xi’s son knew that the third glass was undoubtedly for him.
He gritted his teeth, straightened up, and reached for the glass. But before he could touch it, Lei Luo slammed his hand down, holding the glass in place.
Without waiting for He Xi’s son to speak, Lei Luo tipped the glass over, spilling the liquor onto the carpet. The action made He Xi’s son’s face flush red once more!
Shirley was also surprised by Lei Luo’s move and didn’t understand why he had done it.
“In business, the worst thing is when partners have grudges between them.”
“Since Miss Shirley is here, I’ll give her face, but business is off the table.”
He Xi’s son stood up suddenly, intending to curse at Lei Luo, but remembering Lei Luo’s earlier demeanor, the words died in his throat. He bid farewell to Shirley and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
As He Xi’s son left, some of the others in the room stood up and followed him out. James watched in a panic, but Lei Luo remained as calm as ever.
Shirley, seeing Lei Luo’s composed manner, sat back down leisurely. Once half of the people had left the room, Lei Luo refilled Shirley’s glass.
“Now, we can talk business properly.”
The drinking and toasting in Central did not affect the bloodshed in Kowloon. The entire Kowloon Stronghold was nearly covered in blood tonight, with gangs clashing everywhere.
The Digital Gang and the Stronghold held their ground, using the complex terrain of the Stronghold to resist the attacks of the other gangs.
As time passed, it was already 5 AM. The Yian Gang’s Xiang Yan and others were exhausted and frustrated, their faces pale. They had sent out their best fighters, but after all this time, they hadn’t taken the Stronghold.
The Stronghold had even set fires to delay them, becoming completely ruthless. Just when Xiang Yan was on the verge of despair, a firework suddenly shot up into the sky above the Stronghold!
Bang!
The firework exploded in the air, drawing everyone’s attention. Before Xiang Yan and the others could react, the Stronghold suddenly became filled with noise!
A subordinate ran out, gasping for breath, shouting, “Sang Gou and Ah Yao from the Digital Gang and the Stronghold were killed!”
“Hong Xing’s boss killed Sang Gou and Ah Yao!!!”
The Digital Gang and the Stronghold, who had held out all night, collapsed like a mud dam in an instant!
Through the flames, Liu Chen and his men slowly emerged, dragging a few bodies behind them…
What do you think?
