Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 415: Champion

Chapter 415: Champion

Since today was the finals, the Westford City Central Arena was even more crowded than in previous days. Tickets were completely sold out—no matter how much someone wanted to buy one, they wouldn’t be able to.

Julian hadn’t bought a ticket either, but he still entered the main venue.

He was holding an official admissions officer badge from Imperial University. As soon as the event staff saw the credential—and realized it was Julian himself—they let him through without hesitation.

By the time he stepped inside, the finals had already been underway for a while. He glanced at the scoreboard by the battlefield—both the red and blue sides had one point each.

Both trainers had already sent out their second Pokémon.

Julian made his way to the highest section of the audience stands—a spot that offered a clear view of the entire battlefield. This area wasn’t open to the public.

Only a select few had access, and Julian was one of them.

By the time he arrived, there were already a dozen or so people there, both men and women, all focused on the match below.

Some were even jotting down notes in their notebooks.

In the past, there were talent scouts for athletes and entertainers. Those still existed, of course—but now, there were also Trainer Scouts.

Trainer Scouts were essentially admissions officers from top universities. You could always spot their presence at major tournaments.

Whether it was the provincial high school leagues or regional type-specialist competitions, if high school trainers were competing, you could bet these scouts would be there—looking to recruit the most talented trainers for their universities.

After all, the number of talented trainers a university attracted was directly tied to its future development.

Imperial University held the number one ranking in the nation precisely because generation after generation of powerful trainers had graduated from there, and many were found in tournaments like the Hundred Schools League.

All these factors combined to cement Imperial University’s status as the undisputed top academy.

The moment Julian arrived, all of the people in the room recognized him immediately. After all, in this country, it was hard not to know Julian Walker.

Especially since these were university admissions officers.

Many of them had watched last year’s Silver Province High School League and had closely observed Julian’s performance. He had been one of their key prospects.

However, before any of them could approach him, Julian was swiftly invited over by Professor Ella from Imperial University’s admissions office in advance.

When it came to recruiting top-tier talent, the best strategy was always to act early.

Waiting until a trainer had already made a name for themselves would only invite fierce competition.

Of course, this approach came with risks.

Had Julian not displayed such overwhelming dominance in both team and individual competitions, Imperial University’s admissions office might not have reached out to him this early.

No one came over to greet him directly—most simply nodded in acknowledgment.

Julian nodded in return before shifting his attention back to the battlefield. He had come here specifically to observe the champion of the Shu Province High School League, who was being considered for Imperial University’s special recruitment program.

On the battlefield, the red-side trainer was a male, while the blue-side trainer was a female.

At the moment, their strengths seemed evenly matched.

The red-side trainer specialized in Dark-type Pokémon, while the blue-side trainer specialized in Ghost-types.

Among the eighteen Pokémon types, Ghost-type trainers were the rarest, and even fewer female trainers chose to specialize in them.

In Drakoria’s culture, spirits and ghosts had long been considered taboo, and if Ghost-type Pokémon were not trained properly, they could pose certain risks to their own trainers.

From a type matchup perspective, Dark-types had an advantage over Ghost-types, which gave the red-side trainer a slight edge in this battle.

Of course, type advantage alone didn’t determine the outcome of a battle, but when two trainers had similar levels of skill and their Pokémon were equally strong, the one with the type advantage generally had a higher chance of winning.

At present, the red-side trainer had sent out an Umbreon, while the blue-side trainer had chosen a Mismagius.

So far, neither side had shown any clear dominance—both Pokémon were at the Advanced level.

The cheers from the audience, however, leaned more in favor of the blue-side trainer. This was likely because she was a girl, and on top of that, she was quite attractive. Meanwhile, the red-side trainer was just an average-looking guy.

When a girl reaches a certain level of attractiveness, she can easily gain support from both men and women.

On the other hand, if a guy is exceptionally handsome, he might attract a lot of female fans, but he’ll also earn the resentment of other guys—because why does he have to be 'that' good-looking?

In this regard, men tend to be more competitive.

"That was an error," Julian murmured to himself.

The red-side trainer's Umbreon had made a misstep—one that any experienced trainer would have noticed.

However, these were all high school seniors who had only been training Pokémon for about a year. Unless they had frequently battled using their family's Pokémon growing up, their battle experience would still be quite limited.

"Can she capitalize on that?" Julian muttered, watching closely.

If the blue-side trainer seized this opportunity, the flow of battle would shift in her favor.

"Mismagius, Shadow Ball!"

The blue-side trainer's eyes lit up as she launched a swift counterattack.

"Not bad," Julian nodded.

Just as he had predicted, the red-side trainer’s mistake was immediately exploited by his opponent, forcing him into a defensive position.

Moreover, the blue-side trainer maintained her caution throughout the match, avoiding any missteps of her own.

Ten minutes later, Mismagius successfully defeated Umbreon.

It had sustained only minor injuries—enough to continue fighting in the next round.

However, instead of keeping Mismagius on the field, the blue-side trainer recalled it and sent out her third Pokémon—Gengar.

In response, the red-side trainer sent out Absol.

“Ghehehe!”

A familiar chuckle echoed near Julian.

Gengar was cheering for its own kind.

Gengar was a staple for almost every Ghost-type trainer. Its chubby, mischievous appearance made it surprisingly cute, and it even had a Mega Evolution.

“Gengar, Mega Evolve!”

Just as Julian had that thought, the blue-side trainer gave a command.

A brilliant glow enveloped the battlefield as Gengar’s form shifted, its energy surging.

Its strength skyrocketed from Advanced-level peak to pseudo-Elite late stage.

Julian’s eyes narrowed. 'Having a Gengarite… this trainer must come from an influential background.'

He glanced at the red-side trainer, curious.

'Does he have an Absolite?'

If not, the match was as good as decided. A pseudo-Elite late stage Mega Gengar was simply too much for an Advanced-level Absol to handle.

Unless this Absol was just as 'unnatural' as Julian’s own Pokémon—capable of defying limits and battling beyond its rank.

Three minutes later, the outcome was clear. Mega Gengar utterly dominated Absol, overwhelming it in a near-flawless victory.

Being able to maintain the Mega Evolution form for a full three minutes… That was on par with most experienced adult trainers.

This wasn’t just a well-trained Gengar—this trainer had serious talent as well.

With the birth of the champion, the stadium erupted into cheers, the energy reaching its peak.

In that moment, the champion’s name—Jessica Spencer—was etched into the memory of everyone present.
