Pokemon: Reborn Rich Alternate Earth

Chapter 416: Offers

The competition was over, and the award ceremony would be held at the main venue at 8 p.m. As Jessica and her opponent left the battlefield, the audience also gradually dispersed.

Julian and the other admission officers also left one after another.

"Julian, you're here for Jessica, aren't you?" A middle-aged man called out to him.

The man continued, "I'm from the Shu University admissions office. You can just call me Grant."

He didn’t put on airs or insist that Julian address him as "Professor Grant" or anything formal.

"I'm not here for Jessica. I'm here for the champion," Julian explained.

The special recruitment class of Imperial University only admitted the best trainers. And what defined the best? Naturally, the champion.

If Jessica was defeated by her opponent, then Julian's target would naturally no longer be her.

"Then our goal is the same," Grant said with a smile.

Among the top five universities, basically all targeted the champion. And with the long-standing rivalry between Imperial University and Shu University, the two often engaged in verbal battles over recruiting students.

When Jessica returned to her hotel room, she collapsed onto the bed and stretched lazily, her graceful figure fully displayed, and her best friend was beside her.

"Fighting that guy was so exhausting, he was really tough."

Jessica muttered, burying her face into the pillow, her voice slightly muffled.

"I’m so jealous of you, winning the championship means you can choose any of the top five universities in the Country," her best friend said enviously.

There wasn’t a single senior high school student who didn’t dream of getting into one of the top five universities.

"You’re not bad either. You made it into the top ten," Jessica replied.

Lying on her back, she gazed at the ceiling and asked softly, "Which one of the top five should I choose?"

Her best friend, who had just been comforted, was momentarily encouraged—after all, being in the top ten meant that with some effort, she might still make it into a top university.

But the moment she heard Jessica's casually "humblebragging" question, she instantly felt a bit depressed again.

"You’re just rubbing it in. You're a Ghost-type trainer, so the Modu Academy doesn't really suits you," her friend remarked.

"Besides, they’re not even in the top five anymore. Who knows if they’ll make it back this year."

Ding Dong

As they spoke, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Jessica glanced at her friend, who, still sulking, went to open the door.

The moment she did, she was startled—standing outside were seven or eight people.

The admissions officers from various top universities were gathered at the door. Seeing that the person who opened the door wasn’t Jessica, they momentarily wondered if they had the wrong room. Fortunately, one of the teachers asked, "Excuse me, is Jessica here?"

"They're here for you," her friend called out toward the room.

Noticing the work badges hanging around their necks, Jessica’s friend instantly realized who they were, feeling even more envious.

"Who is it?"

Jessica walked over.

The moment the admissions officers saw her, their eyes lit up.

"Student Jessica, I am from the First Military Academy. Our academy is willing to offer you a Cyan-grade Pokémon of your choice, a ten-million scholarship, and ten Ghost-type treasures if you join our special recruitment class."

A teacher in military uniform quickly stated his offer.

"I’m from the Second Military Academy. We’ll offer the same conditions, plus an extra ten million."

The teacher from the Second Military Academy looked smugly at the First Military Academy representative.

First Military Academy: 'Is this guy trying to start a rebellion?'

"I represent Pearl University."

"The First and Second Military Academies are being too stingy."

"As long as Student Jessica agrees, Pearl University will provide two Cyan-grade Pokémon, a thirty-million scholarship, and the opportunity to become the disciple of the trainer ranked 40th on the Elite Leaderboard."

Jessica’s best friend, listening to these offers, looked more excited than Jessica herself. She grabbed Jessica’s shoulders and exclaimed, "An Elite mentor! Two Cyan-grade Pokémon!"

Jessica was slightly tempted—not by the Elite mentor, but by the two Cyan-grade Pokémon. Her family was renowned for Ghost-type Pokémon, and her grandfather was even an Elite trainer, so she never lacked guidance.

But Cyan-grade Pokémon were rare. Her family had many members, and it was difficult for her to receive preferential treatment unless her talent was exceptional.

Even with her talent, she only had one Cyan-grade Pokémon—her Gengar.

The other university representatives also began making their offers. While they weren’t part of the top five universities, they were still among the best in the country, second only to the Big Five.

In fact, some of their offers were even more generous than those from the Big Five.

After all, since they didn’t have the same reputation, they had to offer better conditions to attract top students like Jessica.

"Shu University offer includes a Banette's Mega Stone, a hundred-million scholarship, and fifteen Ghost-type treasures," the Shu University representative finally spoke.

Jessica's heart skipped a beat. Mega Stones were far rarer than Cyan-grade Pokémon. Even though she didn’t own a Banette yet, she could always catch one in the future.

Everyone had finished presenting their offers. However, Jessica’s best friend suddenly noticed something and couldn’t help but ask, "Teachers, why isn’t Imperial University here?"

Jessica realized this as well.

Among the Big Five, Imperial University had long held the top spot. And ever since Julian joined them, their reputation had completely overshadowed Shu University.

Yet their admissions officers weren’t present.

Did they not come, or did they simply not care to?

"Imperial University has no shortage of talent. They might not even bother showing up," the Shu University teacher scoffed.

Jessica wasn’t upset yet, but her best friend immediately pouted. "Imperial University isn’t all that great. You might as well choose Shu instead!"

With her best friend's backing, the Shu University teacher quickly seized the opportunity. "Student Jessica, Shu will absolutely not let you down!"

Jessica hesitated for a moment. The absence of Imperial University’s representatives did annoy her—she felt like they were looking down on her. But she wasn’t about to shamelessly ask them for an explanation.

"Damn it, Shu, you guys are really playing dirty."

A voice, filled with frustration and displeasure, rang out from behind the group of teachers.

And the target of the insult? Shu University.

Everyone turned around and saw Julian approaching with a dark expression, followed by a slightly embarrassed-looking Shu University representative, Grant.

Earlier, Grant had deliberately engaged Julian in conversation to stall him, while another Shu University teacher rushed ahead to recruit Jessica before Julian could get to her.

If it wasn’t for Julian sensing something off with Grant’s Aura, he might’ve actually fallen for it.

He hadn’t expected Shu University to send two representatives. Now, he seriously suspected that one of them had been dispatched solely to delay Imperial University’s recruiter.

Fortunately, it was him they tried to trick—if it had been someone else from the Imperial university's team, they might have walked right into the trap.

No, actually… they definitely wouldn’t have fallen for it.

Because Imperial University's other recruiters wouldn’t even waste time talking to Shu University’s teachers.

Shu University had pulled this trick many times before. And to be fair, Imperial University had done the same.

It was just Julian’s bad luck—being the newcomer, he’d nearly fallen for it.

Julian: 'So the clown was me all along.'

Meanwhile, the other Shu University teacher, seeing Julian’s sudden appearance, shot an accusatory glare at Grant, as if to say: 'Seriously? You couldn’t even handle one rookie?'

Grant: 'I don't even know where things went wrong....'
