Million dollar bride

Chapter 27: Rika's visit

Ella was doing year-end statistics, suddenly startled by a girl's shrill call.
"SISTER!"
Lifting her eyes, she saw Rika, carrying two rice cages from afar, running towards her, chirping like a baby bird. Rika is childish, lively, and cheerful.
"Let's eat together."
Is it time for lunch already? Ella looked up at her watch, mumbling. Working overtime, if Rika doesn't come, she'll probably… starve.
Cleaning the files and books aside, Rika placed the two rice bowls on the table. They ate while chatting.
“Ella, did you call my brother?” Rika reminded her. “He might be worried about you. If you have time, give him a call.”
"I don't want to bother him. His job seems to be very busy.” Ella stopped eating and spoke.
“You shouldn't think like that. As his wife, you need to call him to inform him about your life. Even if he doesn't call, you have to call, at least once." Rika asked.
"I'll call him when I have some free time."
After finishing work at the company, Ella returned to her father's apartment. During David's business trip, she asked Mr. Harry to let her stay at her father's house for a while, but in Anthony's mansion anyway, she was lonely. Rika goes out with her friends often.
After having dinner with Mr. Stephen, Ella's phone rings. She took the phone and went out to the balcony.
"Hello." She answered the phone.
“Hi. How are you?"
Hearing his voice, her heart beat faster. "I am fine. And you?"
"Me too. Everything went smoothly.”
“Um. But why did you call me?"
"Why can't I call you?" David asked back.
"No. I mean… aren't you busy?”
"I'm free today so I want to call you."
“Um.”
"Do you remember me?" David asked the question.
“Why should I miss you?” Ella was cold but inwardly, she thought. 'I miss you."
David sighed as he heard her speak. "I miss you. Last time I called while you were sleeping, so I think you don't remember what you said."
Ella's face turned red. Her heart was racing. Did she say that?
“What did I say last time? And have you called me once?"
"Right. It was midnight and you said…you love me.” David chuckled on the other end of the line. Of course, Ella didn't say that. But he wanted to tease her a little bit.
"What?" Ella was shocked. "How is it possible?"
“Why don't you admit you love me? What's wrong with that?” David is confused.
“That's not wrong, but… the two of us…” Ella paused for a few seconds.
“I know what you mean. Ella, I love you.”
Ella was silent for a moment. This time her heart beat faster.
'No, don't shake.' Ella screamed in her heart.
"OK. It's late, you go to sleep. See you later. Sleep well."
"Um, good night."
Before David hung up the call, he continued to say the last sentence in a low, hoarse voice. “I think my feelings are real, about you.”
“What?”
"I'll tell you how I feel when we meet again," David said and hung up the call.
Ella stared at her phone screen, frowning. 'What will he say after seeing him again?'
Ignoring her, she walked into the house.
Mr. Stephen, who was sitting on the sofa, asked seeing her red face. “Who called you?”
“Is… my director.” Ella smiled lightly.
Mr. Stephen didn't ask anymore. He knows his daughter has been busy with her work lately. It must have been an important call.
Rika unexpectedly visits Ella's apartment. She greets Mr. Stephen and tells Ella. “Your father right? Hello." Then she turned to Ella. “Why didn't you call recently? Grandpa is very worried about you. He agrees to let you visit his family but you also have to call us.”
As soon as Rika opened her mouth to speak, Ella's face turned pale. Sweat began to trickle down her forehead.
Mr. Stephen had a surprised expression on his face. Just to be sure, he asked Rika. "Who are you?"
"I'm Ella's brother-in-law."
Mr. Stephen looked at Ella, looking startled. "Sister-in-law? What happened, Ella?"
The shocked attitude of Mr. Stephen surprised Rika. Did Ella say nothing to her father?
Ella is confused, she forgets that she is hiding her marriage. She didn't expect that one day Rika would come. David bought a luxury apartment for Ella, and Mrs. Emma knows too. There's no reason that Rika doesn't know.
Before Ella could say anything, Rika spoke. “I apologize for coming unannounced. Although Ella is married to my brother, this is the first time I have met you.” She politely told Mr. Stephen.
Mr. Stephen glanced over at Ella, demanding an explanation from her. Ella knew she couldn't hide anymore. She slowly walked up to her father and knelt.
Grasping her father's wrinkled hand, she spoke in an apologetic voice. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hide it from you."
“Don't say sorry. You said you didn't have a boyfriend and now you have a husband? Is this marriage related to the cost of my treatment?” Mr. Stephen asked curiously.
Ella hesitated a bit but then she finally nodded, as if confirming Mr. Stephen was right.
“Why didn't you tell me? Is the man who bought this apartment? Your job is to be his wife?" Mr. Stephen understood the story.
"I didn't say it because I was afraid you would be angry." Ella tries to explain logically.
“Why am I angry? You married a strange man because of me, I'm sorry for you. I'm so bad, I don't deserve to be your father." Mr. Stephen hung his head, blaming himself.
“You are not at fault. I'm sorry I didn't tell you." Ella whimpered.
Rika, was still bewildered because she didn't understand what was happening. But seeing Ella and her father so grieving, she spoke again to help ease the mood. “Our family didn't know my brother was married to Ella until he introduced her to the family, we found out. I apologize on behalf of my grandfather and my parents for not showing your family gratitude first.”
"May I know my daughter's husband's face, please?" Mr. Stephen asked.
Rika opened the phone and handed it to Mr. Stephen. "This is David, my brother, Ella's husband." She said in a soft voice.
Mr. Stephen took Rika's phone and stared at the screen. In the photo is a handsome, elegant man. Look at this man, Mr. Stephen learns that his daughter is married to a rich man.
