Chapter 1631 1631: International Music Charts Debut
A week passed by.
During this time, Iris Long's latest song, "I, the Dreamer", dominated the music charts. Despite being in English, it became popular even with older generations.
Critics analyzed this phenomenon and concluded that the key was in the music. It didn't matter what language the song was sung in. Its music alone was enough to engage listeners.
There was a cinematic feel to the music that gave goosebumps to listeners. In addition, its ballad quality fit the tastes of the older generation.
Of course, it wouldn't dominate the music charts if it didn't pique the younger generations. The combination of ballad quality with modern, contemporary pop infusion was a hit with all age groups.
It also didn't hurt that Enrique Valdez collaborated with Iris Long.
All of these combined was a recipe for success.
Iris and her team worked every day for the past week promoting her new song. Finally, her name resounded within the music industry and showbiz once again.
Her MusicFest Tonight performance from a week ago went viral. She was featured in news programs, talk and radio shows, newspapers, magazines, and online news outlets.
Everyone was talking about how her upcoming album would be her most successful yet.
Of course, it was inevitable that there would be detractors.
Some claimed that Iris Long had already missed the chance to rise to superstardom when she married and gave birth to children. Nobody was interested in a wife and mother, they said.
The Black Stars immediately sent out their elite force, the Slippers Army, to wage war against these immature, narrow-minded bashers.
Others said that the success of Iris Long's new music was only thanks to her collaboration with the legendary hitmaker, Enrique Valdez. Without him, she wouldn't even have a fighting chance in competing on the international stage.
This was because it was reported that "I, the Dreamer" had also debuted abroad.
The song debuted at number 72 in the US, number 64 in the UK, number 85 in Canada, number 90 in Australia and similar average numbers across several countries.
These numbers weren't impressive, but Iris Long was basically unknown in these countries. It was indeed thanks to Enrique Valdez's name that Iris Long's song, "I, the Dreamer", even entered the top 100 in the first place.
In a sense, some of the detractors were indeed right.
However, the song performed impressively well in some countries and it was thanks to Iris Long herself.
The song debuted in Germany at number 15. In France, it did better at number 7.
Thanks to her impressive guest piano performance at Maestro Ludovico de Luca's symphony orchestra concert years ago, the Germans still remembered Iris Long.
Also, Orchidia's European headquarters was currently in Germany. Thanks to Alona Bauer's hard work, their customers knew that the company was owned by a Chinese celebrity named Iris Long.
As for the song's impressive performance in France, it was largely attributed to her past "Best Original Soundtrack" win at the Sommet International Film Festival for multiple-award-winning indie film, "Strong Yet Broken", years ago.
She hadn't yet become a household name in France back then, but when she launched Liberté, the local media used her past achievement at the film festival to boost the company's image.
Then superstar Jin Chonglin's hilarious proposal at Liberté's launch party made the company go viral worldwide. This made more people, especially the French, become more aware of Liberté and its owner, Iris Long.
This was probably why Iris Long's new song, "I, the Dreamer", debuted so well in the country. People still remembered her.
Iris' team thought that the song debuted the best in France, but no.
Reports soon arrived from the Southeast Asian region.
"I, the Dreamer" debuted at number 3 in Singapore and number 1 in the Philippines.
In other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, etc., the song also performed well, debuting within the top 10.
Her residual fame from her duet song "Shining Eyes" with Jin Chonglin, the OST for the hit TV drama, "Our Love, Our Destiny", contributed a lot to her new song performing so well in these Southeast Asian countries.
In her office at LXC Studio, Iris Long sat listening to Tang Yiyi sharing the numbers. As soon as she read that "I, the Dreamer" debuted at number 1 in the Philippines' music charts, Dom started cackling like a demented witch.
"I told you, Boss! We, Filipinos, absolutely love this kind of powerful ballad song! I bet that singers are going to start using it in singing competitions. We, Filipinos, love difficult, powerful songs that reach high notes."
Tang Yiyi became pensive after hearing what Dom said. Then she said, "I think we can use this to your advantage, especially during your trip to the Philippines."
Iris tilted her head to the side, curious about her manager's idea.
Tang Yiyi told them what she was thinking. Dom immediately gave his thumbs up.
"This could work," Iris said, nodding.
"I'll coordinate things so that everything is ready when we arrive in the Philippines," Dom said before taking his work tablet and tapping on it.
Iris pursed her lips as she also became pensive. "Since I'm not doing any extensive promotions abroad at the moment, we can assume that the debut positions of my song in those foreign music charts are the peak positions that it can reach. I don't have time for extensive international promotions, so we'll just have to endure it until my actual album launches. Teacher Enrique already told me that he'll bring me to America when the time comes."
Tang Yiyi nodded. "Yes, JJ had already mentioned that to me before. I'll start coordinating your schedule with Mr. Enrique's contact in America as soon as we receive the go-ahead signal from him." She turned to Dom. "You'll have to take care of Xiulan when you go to the Philippines. I'll flay you alive if something bad happens to her there."
Dom patted his chest. "Don't worry, Big Sis Yiyi! Leave everything to me! The Philippines is my territory. My family and I will make sure that Boss enjoys every single second she stays in our home country!"
What do you think?
