After Transmigrating as a Tycoon’s Wife, My Thoughts Are Heard by the Whole Family

Chapter 419

【If she had grown up like Qin Tiantian, perhaps she too would have been a sweet and lovable girl. All of this was the result of her environment; it wasn’t her fault.】

【She deserves to be treated fairly. She should reclaim her true identity.】

【But a girl like Qin Tiantian… how could anyone bear to hurt her? And that family—sending Qin Tiantian to live there would crush her in no time. But Duanyi has endured in that household for so many years. How much suffering has she gone through? Suffering she should never have had to endure in the first place.】

【When I used to read novels, I thought anyone who helped a "fake daughter" was scum. Now I’m terrified I’ve become that kind of scum.】

【Ahhh, I just want to stab Mao Yi, that vile woman.】

【How could someone be so cruel? Just because she realized her husband wasn’t a good man and might not provide a stable future for her daughter, she saw an opportunity. Since she and Sixth Aunt looked alike, and the two children were born in the same month, she took advantage of the Qin family’s kindness while staying in the same hospital and swapped the babies. From that moment, she drastically altered the fates of two children.】

【How could someone be so selfish? No wonder her behavior today was so strange!】

【So this is the truth! Just thinking about it makes me furious! Ahhh!】

As Ji Fei was about to be overwhelmed by guilt and inner turmoil, she was suddenly pulled into Qin Xian’s arms.

“What’s wrong? What’s got you so worked up?”

Ji Fei froze, taking a deep breath. Even though she was torn inside and deeply fond of Qin Tiantian, some truths couldn’t be ignored. Maybe the outcome would be positive—she just had to stop scaring herself.

Before she could summon the courage to speak, Qin Xian interrupted her train of thought.

“Are you thinking about Mao Yi? Don’t worry about it. I’ll investigate her thoroughly tomorrow. No matter what she’s hiding, there will be clues.”

Ji Fei blinked in surprise, as if Qin Xian had lifted the weight of the decision off her shoulders.

Qin Xian understood why Ji Fei was so unsettled. It was a morally complex situation.

If the truth were revealed, Duanyi would be pitiful—she was the real Qin child. But Qin Tiantian… He trusted Sixth Uncle and Sixth Aunt to make the right decision.

Qin Xian had another thought.

It was hard to believe such an incident could occur at a hospital under the Qin Group’s management. During his eldest sister’s ordeal, the tragedy had occurred because it was outside their territory.

This meant the events from eighteen years ago needed a thorough investigation.

The most basic step was a paternity test—it had to be done first to avoid any unnecessary chaos or misunderstandings.

It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Ji Fei, but her “gossip system” had limitations. When his eldest sister’s incident first came to light, the system had almost missed the truth. While it revealed actual events, subjective perspectives could distort the story. Even if people shared their thoughts, those thoughts might not fully align with reality, leading to errors.

For this reason, every time Ji Fei encountered such incidents, Qin Xian had quietly conducted his own investigations. Only by combining her insights with his findings could they uncover the complete truth.

Ji Fei hesitated, wanting to give Qin Xian a heads-up about her suspicions.

But Qin Xian smiled and said, “It’s late. Let’s get some rest. Overthinking will give you a headache. Don’t worry—I’ve got this.”

Ji Fei thought about it and agreed. After all, she was an outsider in this matter, just a daughter-in-law without blood ties to the family. It was best for Qin Xian, as a direct relative and family head, to take charge.

If Qin Xian didn’t uncover the truth, she could figure out how to hint at it later.

【I just hope the kindhearted won’t be hurt too deeply and that everything can be set right soon.】

However, Ji Fei didn’t expect that while she slept, an incident occurred in a residential building in Y City.

When Duanyi returned home earlier, Mao Yi had berated her the entire way. Once home, tensions flared when Duanyi hadn’t prepared dinner, leaving the two men hungry.

A fierce argument broke out, and Duanyi ended up being beaten.

She tried to fight back but, as a girl, she was no match for them physically. All she could do was endure. Desperate, she turned to her mother for help, but Mao Yi stood by, turning her head away with an apologetic expression but refusing to intervene.

When the two men finished, Mao Yi finally approached her. “I told you to be obedient. See? This is what happens when you refuse to accept your fate.”

Duanyi’s resentment had reached its peak. She shoved Mao Yi aside, ran to her room, and locked the door.

At eighteen, she had made up her mind. She no longer wanted to go back to school. She would shamelessly beg Qin Tiantian to help her escape this family. Only by leaving this house and her mother could she find freedom.

Duanyi spent the entire night in her room, not even turning on the light. When she heard the door open, it was the father and son returning.

The son quickly settled in to rest, while the father drank and watched TV. Mao Yi reminded him of something, but he lashed out angrily. “Shut up! I already lost money today, don’t make it worse. I’m asking you—what are you going to do with that daughter of yours?”

Standing at her door, Duanyi’s heart raced as she pressed her ear against it to listen.

Mao Yi, seemingly worried someone might overhear, hurriedly pulled the man into their bedroom.

Duanyi’s instincts screamed that something was wrong. Remembering that the air-conditioning platform outside connected to their room, she decided to sneak over. She had climbed it before to escape beatings and wasn’t afraid.

As she climbed, she overheard her stepfather talking about marrying her off to an old bachelor in exchange for a dowry.

Duanyi’s eyes filled with tears. Surely her mother wouldn’t agree to this, right?

Sure enough, Mao Yi objected. “That old bachelor won’t do. He’s too old. If we marry her off like that, what will people say about us? And it’s too cruel to Xiao Yi. This… this really isn’t right.”

Although Mao Yi’s words weren’t particularly protective, they softened Duanyi’s heart for a moment.

But the next second, her world shattered.

Her stepfather sneered. “Too cruel? Are you joking? After all the cruel things you’ve done to her?”

Mao Yi froze in shock. Her voice trembled. “W-What are you talking about?”

The man chuckled darkly. “Don’t think I don’t know. After you gave birth, you pretended to be unwell to get the Qin family to help. They took you and the baby to that big hospital. But when you brought the baby back, your attitude changed. You didn’t love her anymore, didn’t even care for her properly. At first, you were like a tiger if anyone criticized her. Then suddenly, you couldn’t care less. Why?”

Mao Yi’s face turned deathly pale.

Clinging to the wall outside, Duanyi felt her heart sink. This was the answer she had been searching for her whole life: why her mother didn’t love her.

The man continued, “That night when she almost died because of your negligence, you sat by her bed crying, apologizing, saying you’d atone for your sins. I thought it was strange—why feel so guilty over a sick child?”

Mao Yi trembled violently, glaring at him with a mixture of fear and hatred.

But the man only laughed, his voice laced with mockery.

“Now that I think about it, everything makes sense—how you’re terrified of that brat getting close to the Qin family’s daughter, how you secretly go to the school to check on that little miss even though you claim you don’t. Everything fits. You, this meek, pitiful woman, actually had the nerve to pull off such a big scheme!”
