Chapter 20 - 20 20 Meeting the Parents
20: Chapter 20: Meeting the Parents 20: Chapter 20: Meeting the Parents Sophie Parker thought that once Adam Willow heard about Emily Parker going on a blind date with someone else, he would be furious and berate Emily for being a gold-digger and give up on her completely.
But unexpectedly, when Adam Willow heard that the other party was Carlos, his previously displeased expression actually softened.
“Brother Adam, you don’t mind Emily going on blind dates with other people?”
Sophie Parker couldn’t figure out what Adam was thinking at the moment.
With a gentle expression, Adam glanced at Sophie’s still somewhat swollen face and pretended to be relaxed,
“Your sister and I were merely classmates from middle school and high school, it was her misunderstanding before.
I don’t care about her blind dates.”
Sophie’s heart raced, she looked at Adam Willow obsessively, lost in the depth of his affectionate eyes.
After comforting Sophie for a few words, Adam made an excuse that there was something at home and left first.
Once in the car, the elegant demeanor on Adam Willow’s face disappeared without a trace in this moment.
He took out his wallet, inside which was clutched a photo.
Oddly enough, the photo was neither of Emily Parker nor any other woman, nor was it a family photo of Adam Willow, but a teenage boy about fifteen or sixteen years old.
Adam Willow scoffed disdainfully, his gaze lingering on the photo.
The person in the photo was Carlos during middle school.
Young Carlos already had a beautiful androgynous face.
His black disheveled hair covered his handsome features; he was wearing the crumpled uniform of a noble school, seeming like he had been in a fight, the Carlos of that time was quite the school bully indeed.
“Other than that face, he’s good for nothing.
Emily could never fall for him.”
Adam Willow understood Emily; she liked academic overachievers because of her childhood experience being bullied by school tyrants; she detested bullies the most.
However, Sophie mentioned Emily got into a rich man’s car…
Thinking of Emily’s recent unusual behavior, Adam Willow frowned and made a call to Emily, but her phone was unreachable.
Adam thought to himself that he would ask Emily carefully when work resumed on Monday.
The sedan taking Emily to the suburbs lost signal after driving a while.
Half an hour later, green mountains and waters appeared ahead.
Before marrying Carlos, Emily did not familiar understand the tycoons of the Capital Circle; upon seeing a villa built by the lake, she truly realized the essence of top-tier tycoon families for the first time.
Endless lawns, densely growing trees, and the rippling lake water, a majestic manor stood halfway up the hill.
The entire Cloud Lake Villa occupied several hundred acres.
According to Oliver Ross, the villa not only had a golf course but also included a horse ranch, tennis courts, and a helipad.
Emily looked around and saw that although this area seemed quiet and unpopulated, cameras were installed everywhere.
“Madam, Cloud Lake Villa is just ahead.”
“You guys’ boss usually lives here?”
Emily was starting to understand where Carlos’s confidence in providing her a carefree life came from; it felt like she had accidentally given their unborn child a head start, making it a rich second generation by accident.
“The boss doesn’t usually live here; he loves lively places and stays downtown.
The Carter Family has many houses in the city, and your marital home is also there.
The boss only comes here to visit his family on weekends.”
Oliver Ross carried Emily’s luggage and guided her onto the shuttle, not forgetting to explain the personal situation of the boss.
After entering the villa, a shuttle came over.
Emily had secretly searched online for Carlos Summer on the way to get their marriage license, unfortunately, the internet had only some gossip about Carlos, and not much information about the Carter Family.
Emily and Carlos were in a sham marriage, the kind that would end in divorce after a year; she wasn’t planning to build any relationships with the Carter family, so she didn’t inquire further.
The shuttle didn’t head straight to the main building but stopped before a horse ranch instead.
“Driver, we were supposed to visit the master and madam at the main building, why have we come to the horse ranch?”
Oliver was puzzled.
Mrs.
Carter was feeling unwell due to Carlos’s scandalous news, and Carlos hurried back because he was concerned about her condition.
Emily thought to herself that Young Master Carter, despite his bad temper, still seemed filial.
“I had someone bring her here.”
A middle-aged man in white riding attire approached, leading a chestnut horse, his steps firm and his eyes deep.
Despite being middle-aged, Evan Palmer was well-maintained; he had no potbelly, thick hair, and looked a few years younger dressed in riding gear.
“Vice President Palmer, this is the boss’s…”
Evan Palmer waved his hand.
“This has nothing to do with you; I have something to say to her.”
Oliver felt uneasy,
“Madam might be in trouble; I should contact the boss quickly lest the vice president scares her away.”
As Carlos’s secretary, Oliver had encountered similar situations several times, and few women could stand Vice President Palmer’s sarcasm.
“My name is Emily Parker, uncle, it’s a pleasure to meet you for the first time.”
Emily did not know Evan Palmer intended to make things difficult for her and politely extended her hand.
Evan Palmer did not reach out his hand; his eyes scrutinizing, he sized up Emily.
Meeting parents for the first time, any well-mannered girl would dress carefully and bring gifts.
But here was Emily, coming empty-handed.
Dressed worse than the servants of the Carter family in a washed-out blue dress, carrying an eco-friendly bag, wearing no jewelry at all, the sum total of her outfit wouldn’t exceed two hundred yuan.
If there were any merits, it was only Emily’s face that was presentable.
No wonder she became the first woman Carlos brought back to Cloud Lake Villa.
“No matter how well she disguises herself, she’s nothing but a gold digger aiming to climb up the social ladder by entering the Carter family for its wealth.”
Evan Palmer saw through Emily at a glance, he thought to himself.
Emily noticed his disfavor and withdrew her hand.
Evan Palmer didn’t even remove his gloves, pulled out a check, handing it to her with disdain in his voice,
“Here’s a million, after you take this money…”
What do you think?
