Volume 1 Chapter 4: Swarmed

Keith’s days as a baby continued. But things changed. The maids and butlers still had subtle cold expressions. However, they had become much gentler than before. Keith could sense it. 

“Young Master, it’s time to practice.” One of the maids came and picked Keith up. 

Usually, May was the one who would focus all her attention on Keith. The others would be on the sidelines as they watched. They would only come near him if May needed help. 

This changed. 

The maids got closer to him now. 

“You got this, Young Master.” “You can do it.” May and the other maids encouraged Keith as he lay on the carpet.

I can do this. This is the time! 

“Kya! The young master started to crawl!” The maids watched as they saw Keith crawling super quick. Everyone was shocked. 

Some of the maids kneeled down,

“Come here, Young Master.” They called out to Keith. They all had eager looks, wanting Keith to go to them. But there was only one person Keith went to; May. That caused the other maids to be sad and envious, 

“The young master always goes to May.”

“Young Master should come over to our side!”

May’s the best. A smile bloomed for May as she hugged Keith. 

Recently, there were more people smiling near him. The one who changed the most was May, who beamed like no tomorrow. 

May turned to the other maids, “Young Master likes me the most.” She hugged Keith tightly. This is good. The atmosphere became better than before. Well, some maids looked jealous. Though, it was much better than last month. It didn’t feel dark and drab. 

While he played with the maids, 

Mother! Sophia entered the room again. Keith escaped from May’s arm and crawled toward Sophia. Sophia frowned as she picked him up, 

“Don’t crawl on the floor. You’re going to get hurt.” Then she added, “To think you’re crawling so soon.” She patted her son’s head, which caused him to laugh. 

But there was something Keith thought long and hard about. How can I make her smile? That was the problem he still needed to accomplish. Even though Sophia and Keith spent time together, he didn’t get her to smile once. 

Maybe there is something outside that could help me. A thought came to Keith’s mind as he shifted his body around.

“Hmm? What’s the matter?” Sophia asked. Keith babbled a bit as he moved his hand. It was enough. She knew what he wanted.

“Do you want to go outside?” Sophia questioned. 

“Abbu!” Keith babbled with a smile. 

“...” Sophia’s expression knitted as she thought about it. He is still a little young to go outside. But when she was about to say something, she saw the expression on Keith’s face. 

It was pure excitement.

“...” Sophia turned to May, “May, we’re going to go outside. Please dress Keith up in warm clothes.” Sophia couldn’t say no to those eyes.

“Understood.” May and the other maids nodded as May took Keith in her arms. After a few minutes, 

“...” I think you guys went overkill. In a few minutes, Keith was dressed up.

His appearance was a giant snowball. They threw a lot of clothing onto him. Sophia saw Keith and stared with a strange expression. That lasted a few seconds before she held him. 

“Let’s go.” When the group headed out, his eyes marveled at the sight. So big! The two were on a balcony, looking down at the estate. And it was huge. There were so many flowers. 

The two walked down and entered the garden section. As the group walked, Keith noticed the lamps hanging on the path. They were burning red. As expected of a world with magic.

There was no way Keith would see something like this in his previous life. Noticing how Keith stared at the lamp, Sophia explained, “Those are heating lamps. If we didn’t have something like this, the estate would be cold.” 

The Marquis Estate was located in a cold region. To keep them from freezing, they had lamps with heating crystals placed inside to keep the people warm. 

“Abbu!” Keith let out a happy laugh when he heard that. The maids and Sophia walked before entering a specific section. It was a pergola. It was filled with flowers and trees. In the center was a place where they could rest. 

“Do you want to sit down?” Noticing Keith’s movement, Sophia asked. Keith babbled, and she placed him down. 

Keith was going to crawl around. However, Sophia stopped him, “Don’t crawl so far. It’s dangerous.”

Understood, Mother. Keith didn’t move around so much and stayed close to Sophia and the maids. That didn’t stop him from looking around. He noticed some birds on a tree. 

They were similar to chickadees except for the different colors they had. And they look fluffier. 

The birds did the same as they stared at him. They kept doing this until Keith raised his hands, waving hello. 

The birds somewhat understood him as they dropped down from the trees. They got close to Keith and tried to mimic him. Since they didn’t have hands, they shook their heads back and forth.

How smart! The birds and Keith started to laugh at one another. They showed no hostility. One bird even flew and landed on his head. 

It nestled on top of it. 

So cute! Keith was pleased about this. He wasn’t done as he patted a bird on the ground. He was gentle and kind. But that was not the end,

More birds flew down. All of them were different colors. They were so cute and adorable. They flew around Keith and started to nestle around him. Keith found it super fun. 

“Young Master!” May and the others were stunned by this scene. What they saw was a bunch of birds swarming Keith like no tomorrow.
