Volume 1 Chapter 3: Cheeks Are Soft

Volume 1 Chapter 3: Cheeks Are Soft

While Keith took a nap, Sophia was discussing with her colleagues. However, she couldn’t hear their words. Her mind was focused on her baby.

“Marchioness Freed, I heard your son was born not too long ago.” Someone brought up Keith, and it caught Sophia’s attention.

“Mmhmm.” Sophia nodded. The others questioned,

“Are you planning to have a banquet to celebrate?” Nobles with high ranks would have a party to celebrate the birth of their child.

Sophia shook her head, “Not yet. He was only born not so long ago. He needs time.” Her voice was hesitant as she said the last part.

Her fourth son was so different from her other children.

When comparing him to his brothers, Keith was many times different than them. When the others cried, once the maids stepped in, they stopped. Yet, Keith continued until she came to soothe him.

He smiled and moved a lot as well. He was not like any other baby.

The next day,

“Young Master, I’m going to change your clothes.” May raised some clothes up and started to change him.

I should look handsome now. Keith was pretty happy with the clothes May chose.

May lifted him, “Young Master, do you want to play?”

“Aba!” Keith cried out. May gave a soft smile as she hugged him tighter. While she did that,

“Madam.” One of the maids bowed. May turned to see Sophia at the door.

It surprised everyone as they never expected Sophia to return. She seldom came to meet with Keith. But this was the next day!

Mother! Keith was the only one who was happy as he raised his hands in surprise! Sophia tilted her head as she watched her child wave to her.

“Let me hold him.” Sophia turned to May. May nodded as she handed Keith over to her. As Sophia held Keith, the latter shook his head back and forth.

“Don’t move so much.” Sophia frowned. Keith listened as he stopped moving. He didn’t mind as he sat in his mother’s lap.

It was a sight to watch.

Sophia didn’t talk much as she watched Keith move his hands around while he said gibberish. It took a few minutes before Sophia left the room.

This was not the end.

This meeting had been occurring for the last few days. Sophia entered Keith’s room. He would be placed on her lap as she watched Keith do baby talk.

Soft. That was what went through Sophia’s mind. She didn’t realize it, but her child felt so delicate.

“Aba!”

“Hmm?” Sophia stared at Keith, who placed his hands on his head. May translated his moves,

“The young master wants you to pat his head.”

“Oh?” Sophia looked down to see Keith with a smile as he tried to make a slight nod. Sophia raised her hand and placed it on Keith’s head. She started to move it up and down.

“Ah,” That caused Keith to giggle.

“You’re a strange one.” Sophia felt her child was odd. Yet, she didn’t mind it at all. That expression of his. It was really soothing.

Hey! How could you say that about your child?! Keith moved around on her lap.

Sophia gently sighed as she asked, “Are you angry?”

Keith didn’t say anything. But the pouting cheeks said it all.

So round. Sophia found his cheeks intriguing as she pinched them. It was soft and bouncy.

“...” Umm, Mother? Are you going to keep doing that? Sophia looked immersed in his cheeks.

After a few minutes, Sophia placed him back in the crib, “Go to sleep now. I’ll come back tomorrow.”

“Abbu!” Keith smiled as he waved his hands. Sophia left the room. Once she left, May walked up to Keith,

“Abbu?” Keith tilted his head, wondering what was wrong. The expression May made was really conflicted. May extended her hands and pinched Keith’s cheeks.

“!”

“Marchioness was right. Young Master’s cheeks are so soft.” Before Keith could even say something, she quickly dashed away.

“...” Hey!

The news about Keith’s cheeks being super soft spread throughout the estate. That was something Keith didn’t know until much later.

At night, Keith woke up. I can’t sleep! He had been taking so many naps that he couldn’t sleep at night! And the maids couldn’t help with this.

As he lay there, he noticed the moon.

Because of how much he wanted to go outside, May moved the crib closer to the window for him to watch.

The moon is so beautiful. Keith stared at the lovely moon. Even in another world, the moon was like a crystal ball. But as he was mesmerized by it,

Eh? He noticed a small shadow! Before he could examine it further, the shadow arrived before on top of his window. It was an owl.

However, it was an animal he had never seen before.

Pure white feathers fluttered through the night. Its purple and blue eyes stared at Keith.

Keith stared back at it. The owl stared at him, and he didn’t want to make sudden moves.

A baby and an owl continue to stare at one another. Neither one made a move as they stared. The owl tilted its head. Keith found it cute.

“Abbu, abbu.” Hello, there, little fellow. Small babbles came out again.

“...” I need to remember I can’t talk properly. The owl didn’t make any moves and continued to stare. This lasted a few seconds before the owl left.

“...” Aww. A sad look formed on Keith’s face. In his previous life, he was an animal lover. He still was. He was sad to see it disappear.
