CH.604 Solar Flare Kitsune
CH.604 Solar Flare Kitsune
Unika’s evolution took much longer than I expected. I assumed it would have been a regular one to two day evolution, but it took five days for the mana in the egg to be fully accepted into Unika’s body, and one more full day after that for the egg to start to crack.
During the days Unika had been in the egg, Olia stayed in the room, keeping her eyes on it. That means she hadn't been doing her job, but luckily HomeBase has enough personnel that I can have some take days off without it causing any issues.
I was tempted to do so as well, but sadly I had other business, so I only had a security camera monitoring the situation, with the camera feed coming directly to my Duel Gazer, which I was constantly wearing. Except while I slept. If Unika would hatch while I sleep, Laura would wake me up.
After the egg began to show cracks, Olia was even more aware, and admittedly, so was I. So as soon as the egg began to hatch, I teleported from the Quarry to HomeBase so I could be there for Unika.
The sounds of the egg cracking had woken up Olia. She hadn’t been sleeping that well while Unika was in the egg, so she had begun to nap in her chair while she waited for the egg to hatch.
Yes, I offered Olia sleep services, because Lua can put you to sleep with Blood Magic, Alice can do it with her unique skill and Cailie can use a mix of her singing and Charming Voice to help someone fall asleep.
But those offers were refused, so I instead offered Olia a drink that was a mix of a healing potion and energy drink allowing her to stay awake easier. It wasn’t perfect, and did lead to a pretty bad crash, but it did help when you had to stay awake for a while.
I did limit how many Olia could drink per day to just one. But she still only got a few hours of sleep a night, and that was starting to catch up with her.
As the egg cracked more, pieces of the egg shell began to fall onto the ground. They were some sort of clear crystal, so I collected them into Storage for analysis and potential later use.
Eventually, the egg was cracked to the point where it was no longer a part of Unika's body and I could just take all of it into Storage. As I did, I took a hold of Unika’s body with Telekinesis, so she wouldn’t collapse onto the ground.
Olia rushed over to her daughter and took a hold of her, so I let the Telekinesis go before I walked to them.
Unika was still groggy from her long nap, so I just observed her. Not like I hadn’t been doing that every day for the entire evolution.
Her two mana sources had perfectly merged into one, like how Alice and Mana only have one mana source, despite having two souls inside said mana source. ... okay, that is false. Souls aren't inside the mana source, they are ... I don't actually know. But I know a body missing a soul doesn't affect the mana source, so I know they aren't there. The souls just influence the mana source.
Her mana as a whole had also changed. It used to just be Fire attributed, but now, her Fire mana was different and she also had Light attributed mana inside her body.
Naturally I had already noticed the change to her hair, but it had grown a bit more since last time. The streaks of yellow and red had turned to be almost like painted on patterns that looked like candle flames.
Also, Unika had nine tails. Three were blue, three red and three almost white yellow. The three white tails took the center of the … tail cluster, with the red and blue tails surrounding them, alternating in color.
Lastly, her ears were longer, as I said when I saw her in the egg, and as something new because of the evolution, she also had little ear tufts, which I think are very cute.
As Unika opened her eyes, I got a good look at them. Her pupils had turned into tiny suns. Not literally, but they looked like a cartoon depiction of the sun. And the iris around them was a very light yellow in color, compared to the brown Unika used to have. They also had a slight glow to them, and the glow would likely increase if Unika circulated mana into her eyes, since I was able to see them glow through her eyelids.
“... Hey.” Unika said, still sounding sleepy. “... it went well, didn’t it?”
“Depends. How do you feel?” I asked.
“... Still sleepy.” Unika said.
“Want to take a nap with your mother?” I asked.
With my words, Unika seemed to realize that her mother was hugging her. Olia had actually fallen back asleep, possibly out of relief, so I was supporting both of them with Telekinesis.
“... I … yes. If it isn’t a problem.” Unika said, as her eyes began to close.
“I’ll take you to bed.” I told her.
I took the few steps required to reach them and used Dungeon Founder to teleport us to Unika’s bedroom, before laying them both onto Unika’s bed, using Storage to change their clothes into something more comfortable and putting the covers on them.
I then called Lua with our System Link, telling her that Unika had finished her evolution and asked Lua to come check her out when she had the time.
Oh? You want to know how I changed their clothes? It is just a feature Storage unlocked as it has been leveling up. I’ve been able to do it with my own clothes since Inventory evolved into Storage, but now I can do it with others. But you can easily resist it, so I can’t use it in combat, at least not yet. Maybe when Storage levels up even more.
As I was doing that, a palm sized fox made of light emerged from Unika’s body. It was probably something to do with a new skill Unika has because of her evolution, and she must have activated the skill in her sleep. It sometimes happens, though not that often. Only really with nightmares.
“... Brian. … I’m sorry.” The fox said. Its voice didn’t sound like the voice of Unika at all, so I assume this is Stella. Didn’t know she can make herself a fox avatar.
“What are you sorry for?” I asked the fox. I didn’t try to sound intimidating, but the fox still flinched away from me.
“... I interfered with one of your loves. I … I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry.” Stella said. “Please don’t erase my soul. I don’t want to disappear.” She quietly begged, clearly not wanting to wake up Unika or Olia.
I used Telekinesis to bring a chair next to the bed and sat down. I then offered my hand to the palm sized fox, trying to encourage it to climb on. Stella hesitated a bit, but soon understood that this was happening.
“... what happened between the two of you?” I asked the fox.
“I … We …”
I listened as Stella told me about her encounter with Unika and how she attempted to take over Unika’s body. Only to lose that struggle and completely surrender after Unika shared her memories about me with Stella.
Stella admitted that she was afraid of me. Being a monster that lives in that world, death is a concept she doesn’t really know. Monsters in that world can’t truly die, not as long as they have the will to keep on living. But once they give up on that will, they will no longer be reborn.
She told me about her young life. How with every death, and she died a lot due to the previous ruler of the mountain she now ruled, she began losing her will to live. But despite all of that, with every death, she also became a little stronger.
Eventually, she was strong enough to defeat the previous ruler. She took their place and she was the strongest. Or so she believed.
Because when the Great Sky Dragon came to greet the new area master A term used for new Area Rulers/Guardians, before it has been determined if they are a ruler or a guardian., Stella realized she still wasn’t the strongest.
Sadly, her repeated resurrections had taken away her will to keep on living. She felt that she would no longer resurrect if she died. So she claimed herself the ruler of the mountain and pushed away the sky dragon.
From then on, she lived in fear. Fear of someone coming and killing her. So she would attack anyone as soon as she noticed them. She wouldn’t let them near, as that could lead to her death. She wouldn’t submit to anyone, not for any reason.
When Unika, someone Stella couldn’t overpower because of Chacu Challhua prevent her from attacking and the Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell sealed her magic, kept pushing, Stella didn't know what to do. She was afraid. But Stella couldn’t give in. She believed she would die if she did.
So she did what she believed to be the best. She attempted to take over Unika’s body.
But Unika was strong. Her soul was much stronger than Stella assumed someone so with such a weak body could have. And Stella failed to take over her body, instead the two temporarily shared the body, with Unika having most of the control.
Then Unika showed Stella her memories. She showed Stella how she was. How she was both alone and always with someone. How her tamed monsters were her adventuring family.
But then she showed Stella me. And her new family. The strength her new family gave her. And with that, Stella saw my power.
At that moment, she realized something. Even if she could take over Unika’s body, she would never win. She realized that I would hunt her down, no matter where she would go, and I would get Unika back. And with the divine dragon by my side, we would bring back Unika’s soul from under Stella’s control and banish Stella from this world.
So Stella gave in. It was all she could do to ensure her survival. Because as it had been early in her life, surviving is all that mattered to her.
I reassured the fox that I won’t hurt her. I told her about Alice, and how she is a lot like Unika is. How both of them now have two souls sharing one body. Sure Alice has the soul of one of my card monsters, while Unika is one with Stella, but they are still the same. So I would never reject Stella or harm her, as long as she doesn’t harm Unika.
The fox began to weep on my arm as I reassured her of that, and eventually she also fell asleep. So I placed her on the chest of the sleeping Unika and watched as the light fox sunk into her.
I kept watching for a bit more, but I needed to head back to the Quarry to finish off the mining session that was interrupted by Unika’s hatching. I gathered all the materials my monsters had dug up, unsummoned the monsters and returned to HomeBase.
After a nice little cat … I mean fox nap, Unika woke up again, this time more refreshed. I didn’t tell her about the chat I had with Stella, the two of them can work that out later.
Lua gave her a quick check-up, and told Unika she was in perfect health. Which is to be expected, she did just evolve, but still better to make sure.
After that, it was time for the important thing. Her status. … okay, I make it sound like her being fine is unimportant, but I really want to see what happened to her status. Because I know one thing that happened, and I’m not talking about just Stella. There is one more headmate now in Unika’s body.
So yeah. Unika is strong. Not as strong as I am, but still extremely strong. She also got like 80 levels from her permanent union with Stella. And a bunch of titles, broken ass skills, and if you paid attention, she got herself a Basic System Support.
I knew that last part already. After my chat with Stella, Unika’s System Support made contact with Laura and we have a System Link already up. As you may have been able to figure out due to Unika having Storage access.
Solar Flare Fox is Unika’s new Unique-Racial skill. It not only allows her to transform into a fox, but also allows her to use Foxflame. She can also move at extremely high speeds, not quite light speed, but she is fast. And she can make tiny foxes made of fire and/or light that can move independently from her, or she can have herself or Stella control one. It was the skill Stella used for her avatar while we talked.
Unika also reached level 250, so she got both the High-Leveled Individual title and the Overpowering Aura skill.
Advanced Summoning Magic is just a racial skill, because Unika somehow has three active class races. She is too good with those.
Then there are the evolved magic skills she has. Sunshine Light Magic and Solar Flare Fire Magic. Sunshine Light Magic is apparently there because of her ‘One who Tamed the Sun’ title, while Solar Flare Fire Magic is allowed by her race, despite it not being a racial skill.
As far as evolved magics go, they seem to be about as strong as Spiritual Magics. But unlike Spiritual Magics that are well balanced, Unika’s new magics are maxed in destruction and firepower.
Area Ruler of Solar Mountain (Monster World) is not that interesting of a title, it just tells what Unika, well Stella actually, is. But it does show that the System calls that world the ‘Monster World’. Which I suppose fits.
Everyone of us was happy to see Unika up and awake. They also accepted Stella to HomeBase with open arms. Again, not the first person who is two people, so we were used to this.
And since it had taken so long, even the Wild Pack members were worried, so Unika and I headed there for a visit, so we could show them that she was safe.
But Unika, feeling a bit mischievous, came in her fox form, which looked nearly identical to Stella’s from what she could tell. Hers just had a bit more blue and purple, while Stella was entirely yellow and red.
Seeing Indigo’s reaction when Unika turned from her fox form to her Kitsune was fun enough, and I suppose something like that fits a Kitsune.
They are trickster spirits, if I remember correctly.
What do you think?
