Chapter 20: The Arrogant School Beauty Suddenly Becomes Obedient
The car had been speeding down the highway for two hours.
They’d seen all the scenery there was to see, and all the idle chatter had been exhausted.
With the warm sunlight outside and the cool air inside the car, the excited school beauty suddenly began to feel sleepy.
So, she casually hugged Jiang Zhou’s jacket and gradually drifted off to sleep.
Not long after, Jiang Zhou drove into a deceleration lane and pulled into a rest area.
“Old Jiang, we’re almost at Shangjing. Why are we stopping here all of a sudden?”
Jiang Zhou turned to Guo Wei and said, “It’s been three hours. Don’t you need to pee?”
Guo Wei thought for a moment. “I think I can hold it for at least another hour.”
“Wow, impressive kidneys.”
“You flatter me. What about you, Brother Jiang?”
Jiang Zhou gave a confident smile. “I can probably hold it for another two hours.”
Guo Wei looked puzzled. “Then why are we stopping?”
“We might not need the bathroom, but that girl definitely will.”
“Huh? But the school beauty is still asleep. How do you know she needs to go?”
“Kid, stop poking your nose into grown-up business.”
“…”
Jiang Zhou reached over and nudged Chu Yuwei awake. “Hey, wake up. Go use the bathroom.”
Drowsily, she opened her eyes and rubbed them with her tiny hand. “What’s going on?”
“We’re at a rest stop. There’s a restroom up ahead.”
Chu Yuwei became more alert. “How did you know I needed to use the bathroom?”
Jiang Zhou reached beside her and pulled out a sanitary pad packet. “Look, you even came prepared.”
“Ah!” Chu Yuwei’s face turned red as she snatched the pad away and hurried out of the car.
This guy is too much.
He even carried the pads I bought yesterday?!
But halfway to the restroom, she suddenly ran back. “Jiang Zhou, can you come with me?”
“Why?”
“I just saw a guy walk out of the women’s restroom…”
“It’s just a bathroom, geez. So much drama.”
Chu Yuwei bit her lip, a little disheartened.
Back at school, the boys who liked her would do anything she asked.
None of them ever found her a bother like Jiang Zhou did.
Still, Jiang Zhou pushed open the door and got out of the car.
He lit a cigarette and stuck it in his mouth. “Come on, I’ll wait at the door. If anyone tries anything, I’ll break their nose.”
At those words, Chu Yuwei beamed with joy.
So he wasn’t that cold after all.
In fact, he even had a certain boyfriend-ish charm.
So the two of them headed toward the restroom.
Though truth be told, Jiang Zhou didn’t walk over just to accompany her, he just really needed a smoke.
Still, to avoid any misunderstanding, he figured he’d explain later.
Ten minutes later, Chu Yuwei came out of the restroom.
“Jiang Zhou, thanks for coming with me. I knew it, you’re not as heartless as you act.”
“Don’t get the wrong idea. I just needed a smoke and happened to come with you.” He pointed at the stubbed-out cigarette on top of the trash bin.
Chu Yuwei’s eyes turned misty. “Can’t you just say something sweet, even if it’s a lie?”
Jiang Zhou looked at her seriously. “I’m afraid if I don’t say this, you’ll overthink everything and fall hopelessly in love with me, wasting your youth.”
“You said your confession was just a joke, and I believed you. But seriously, have you never liked me, not even once?”
“Well… maybe if you worked on your chest muscles, there might be a chance.”
Chu Yuwei glared at him and then turned and ran off.
But she didn’t go far, just into the little supermarket inside the rest area.
Jiang Zhou lit another cigarette.
Pitiful, delicate girls really did have their charm.
If he hadn’t seen the future, hadn’t known how life was going to unfold, he might’ve gone in there to help her change her pad.
He had to hold back.
At least until he met the main wife.
He couldn’t let Chu Yuwei think he liked her.
A while later, Chu Yuwei came back out, holding a bottle of water.
She’d clearly calmed down and wasn’t as upset as before.
Jiang Zhou tossed his cigarette. “What did you just go do?”
“B–Bought water…” she mumbled, lowering her head.
“There’s three of us. You bought just one bottle?”
“You and Guo Wei didn’t say you wanted water.” Chu Yuwei genuinely didn’t think she’d done anything wrong.
Back in high school, she had plenty of simps.
She never had to buy water for anyone. Half the time, she couldn’t even finish what people brought her.
Jiang Zhou suddenly looked serious. “Chu Yuwei, you’re in college now, understand?”
She lifted her little face. “I know.”
“College isn’t like high school. It’s a society built on relationships. If you act like this, people will start to exclude you.”
“I bought something with my own money for myself. Why would anyone exclude me for that?”
Jiang Zhou sighed. “Because people will think you’re stingy. What if they stop inviting you to things? You’ll be all alone.”
“Really…?”
“It’s about the gesture, not whether they need it. Unless you want to spend all four years of college alone, you need to learn to maintain relationships.”
Chu Yuwei bit her lip. “Then… can I go buy more now?”
Jiang Zhou nodded. “Go ahead.”
“Alright. Wait here for me.”
“Okay, don’t run.”
“I won’t!”
Watching her bounce away, Jiang Zhou was confused.
Did that girl take the wrong meds in the store?
She was acting way too obedient.
The old her would’ve doubled down even if someone pointed out her mistakes.

Meanwhile, in the back seat of the Corolla…
Guo Wei pressed his face to the window, absolutely stunned.
What had he just witnessed?
Chu Yuwei had obediently listened to Jiang Zhou’s scolding…
And what’s more, she seemed happy about it?
That wasn’t the Chu Yuwei he knew!
They just went to use the restroom. What the heck happened in that time?
Had the school beauty really flipped from a proud tsundere to a full-on masochist?
“Guo Wei, here’s your water.”
“T-Thanks, school beauty…” Guo Wei took the water, still in disbelief.
When Jiang Zhou and Chu Yuwei got back in the car, the air between them had clearly changed.
Especially Chu Yuwei. Now she was acting all proper, like a well-behaved kid in front of a parent.
Her thoughts were simple.
If Jiang Zhou didn’t like her old self, then maybe she just needed to change.
If being tsundere didn’t work, she’d try being sweet and gentle.
Who knows, maybe Jiang Zhou would fall for her again?
What do you think?
