Chapter 19 - Your Uncles Aren’t Going
Chapter 19: Your Uncles Aren’t Going
The three of them got into the car and drove onto the highway.
At this time, the sun was rising toward its peak, and the temperature was gradually increasing. However, the golden morning light spilling onto the road made everything look picturesque.
Guo Wei, who had never traveled far before, looked extremely excited.
“Old Jiang, what’s the first thing you’re going to do when you get to university? I’m thinking about grabbing a meal with my roommates.”
Jiang Zhou thought for a moment. “I’ll probably squat at the school gate for half a day.”
Guo Wei blinked. “Why?”
“There’ll definitely be a bunch of pretty girls on the first day. I’ll pick a few to take home as wives.”
Hearing that, Chu Yuwei rolled her eyes at him. “Scumbag. Jerk.”
“These days, girls like scumbags. Being a simp gets you nowhere,” Jiang Zhou said, shooting a meaningful look at the school beauty beside him.
Chu Yuwei seemed to catch the implication. She opened her mouth but didn’t know how to refute it.
Back in high school, Jiang Zhou had been nothing but loyal and doting.
She had barely looked at him.
But now that he didn’t care about her at all, it kind of stung.
“But Old Jiang, didn’t you say you were starting a business?”
“Business is for making money. And what’s money for?”
Guo Wei pondered for a while. “To earn respect?”
“Bullshit. Money’s for having multiple wives.”
“Tsk, Brother Jiang, you’re a real sage.”
“Take notes, seriously. University is a whole different beast from high school.”
Guo Wei secretly pulled out a little notebook and started jotting things down, planning to impress his new roommates.
“Brother Jiang, keep going.”
“Even if I told you, you’d only half get it. You’ll understand once you experience it.”
Chu Yuwei pouted. She clearly didn’t want to be part of this boyish banter.
So she racked her brain, trying to take control of the conversation.
Just then, all three of their phones rang at the same time.
They checked their screens. It was Zheng Yu posting in their group chat.
He tagged Chu Yuwei: “Yuwei, I’m on the highway now. Have you left yet?”
Honestly, this was something he could’ve sent privately.
But he wanted to show off his special connection with the school beauty, so he always tagged her in public chats. It was super annoying.
Chu Yuwei: “Yeah, already left.”
Zheng Yu: “Tell your dad to drive slow and be careful on the road.”
Guo Wei perked up at that message. “What dad? You mean Dad Guo or Dad Jiang?”
Zheng Yu: “I meant her father. He’s taking her to uni. Don’t you know?”
What a show-off.
Acting like he knows everything.
Meanwhile, the school beauty was sitting right in front of us!
Guo Wei leaned over his seat and showed his phone to Jiang Zhou.
Jiang Zhou chuckled, then glanced at Chu Yuwei. “Since when do I have such a grown-up daughter?”
Chu Yuwei fumed. “Jerk! Who’s your daughter?!”
“Zheng Yu said your dad was taking you, but I’m the one driving. Want to do me a favor and call me dad?”
“Keep dreaming!”
“How about this. Of you call me dad, I’ll graciously allow you to be one of my side wives.”
Her face turned bright red. “I’m not going to be anyone’s side wife!”
Jiang Zhou sighed in mock disappointment. “Oh, so you want to be the main wife? Sorry, too late.”
“You— ugh!”
“Come on, think it over. Call me or not?”
Chu Yuwei was fuming, practically ready to bite him.
No way was she settling for being his side wife.
If anything, she’d be the wife with status and rank!
Meanwhile, Zheng Yu was still chirping away in the group chat.
“Yuwei, how about we grab lunch after I finish unpacking?”
“I found a food street behind Qingbei University.”
“You can bring your dad too. Let us all get to know each other!”
Guo Wei: “Sweet nephew, your uncles aren’t coming.”
Zheng Yu: “Guo Wei, why are you always messing things up?”
Oh, so now I’m messing things up?
Guo Wei smirked and lifted his phone, taking a quick photo of the two sitting in front.
Then he sent the photo to the group chat, looking very pleased with himself.
Even though Guo Wei didn’t know much about photography, this shot was a masterpiece.
In the picture, the morning sun hovered just outside the window.
Golden light filtered through the glass and gently fell inside.
Within the glow, Jiang Zhou focused on the road, a slight smile tugging at his lips.
And Chu Yuwei turned her head toward him, a hint of shy annoyance and soft vulnerability in her eyes.
Zheng Yu: “???”
Zheng Yu: “Why is Yuwei in your car?!”
Guo Wei: “We’re headed the same way, so she came with us.”
Zheng Yu: “No way! She told me she was going with her dad! She even turned me down!”
Guo Wei: “Maybe… that was just an excuse not to go with you.”
Zheng Yu: “@Yuwei, is that true?”
Zheng Yu: “@Yuwei, you asleep or what? Say something.”
Guo Wei was confused too. Why was the school beauty silent?
He looked up and froze.
Chu Yuwei was leaning toward Jiang Zhou.
Then, she suddenly pulled out a tissue and gently wiped the sweat from his brow.
After all, it was the peak of summer and the sun outside was blazing. Sweat had started to form on Jiang Zhou’s forehead and was running down his temples.
“Stop wiping. Just turn on the AC.”
“Oh…” she murmured.
Chu Yuwei dropped the tissue and obediently switched on the air conditioning.
Watching all this, Guo Wei felt like he was in a dream.
Didn’t she reject Jiang Zhou’s confession in high school?
Did I black out and miss something?
Guo Wei tested the waters. “You guys… aren’t secretly dating, are you?”
Jiang Zhou gave him a sideways glance. “Not interested in malnourished types.”
“You jerk, Jiang Zhou!” Chu Yuwei looked like an angry kitten, glaring fiercely at him.
That bastard, he always said she was small.
But she was totally normal for her age!
Some girls in their class were even smaller than her!
She refused to believe this kind of thing really made that much of a difference!
What do you think?
