Chapter 15 - Killing Through the Corridor
Chapter 15: Killing Through the Corridor
Meng Jiangnv’s eyes widened as she watched Yang Yi summon a war halberd out of thin air. She opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to ask something, but then closed it without a word. There was no need. She had already seen him produce water vats, wooden beds, and endless food. A single weapon appearing in his hands was hardly surprising anymore.
Yang Yi barely spared her reaction a glance. His expression remained calm as he adjusted his grip on the weapon. “Stay behind me,” he instructed. “Not too far, but not too close either.” After a moment’s thought, he pulled another kitchen knife from the system’s storage and handed it to her. “Take this for protection.” Meng Jiangnv accepted the blade, gripping it firmly. “Don’t worry, I know how to fight.”
Her confidence was not misplaced. While she primarily studied medicine, her martial training made her more than capable of defending herself against an average man. Even unarmed, she could kill a regular adult male with ease. She had travelled alone for months, crossing dangerous lands, avoiding bandits, rebels, and criminals. There was no way she would have survived if she didn’t have the strength to protect herself. Now, holding the knife in a reverse grip, her stance carried a sharp, deadly aura.

“Let’s go,” Yang Yi said with a smirk.
The moment he shook his wrist, the war halberd let out a low hum, vibrating as if responding to his strength. While it was just a standard weapon, it was more than enough for now. He didn’t need a divine weapon just yet. If he wanted something truly powerful, he would have to reach Qin Shi Huang’s burial chamber. Surely, the First Emperor’s tomb contained legendary weapons—perhaps even the famed Tai’e sword, a blade of historical renown.
[The Tai’e Sword (太阿剑, Tài’é Jiàn) is one of the legendary Five Great Swords of China (中国五大名剑), renowned for its craftsmanship, historical significance, and symbolic power. It is often associated with kingship, balance, and the transfer of authority.].
If the system granted him a reward for finding it, perhaps he could trigger a thousandfold or even ten thousandfold critical reward. Though he liked war halberds for their sheer power, he understood the nature of his system. This was a tomb-robbing system, not a warlord system. At the moment, he had no missions, but once he cleared the First Emperor’s tomb, who knew what the system would demand of him? Surely, it wouldn’t expect him to conquer the world.
Still… if the world is in chaos by the time I leave the tomb, establishing an empire wouldn’t be unreasonable, would it?
As his mind drifted through these thoughts, his prey finally appeared. Ahead, four men stood together, engaged in hushed conversation. The moment they saw him approaching with a war halberd in hand, their expressions twisted with shock and terror.
They were surprised by the war halberd he wielded. Everyone here had been forcibly thrown into the tomb. There was no way anyone could possess a weapon. For a moment, fear froze them in place, but instinct quickly took over. Almost simultaneously, all four turned and ran.
They didn’t hesitate for even a second. They didn’t know who Yang Yi was, nor did they care. They had survived long enough in this nightmare to recognize a predator when they saw one. When a man armed with a weapon approached you in a world where humans had become desperate monsters, you ran.
Yang Yi smiled coldly and moved. His speed exploded, his body surging forward with terrifying momentum. “You won’t escape,” he muttered.
“Tonight, I’m killing through this entire corridor.” His voice was low and steady, but his killing intent rolled out like an unseen wave. These are mercy killings, he told himself. If I don’t kill them, they’ll either die from starvation, be eaten by others, or turn into cannibals themselves. They might not be monsters yet, but soon, they will be.
By ending their lives now, he was granting them peace before their suffering truly began. Perhaps it was just an excuse to make himself feel better, but it didn’t matter.
……………………………………………………………………………
Pfft!
His halberd struck first, piercing through the back of the slowest runner. Blood spurted into the air, and the man let out a strangled gasp before crumpling to the ground.
“Kill!”
Yang Yi’s eyes gleamed with cold light as he withdrew the weapon, flicking the blood away. He did not hesitate. His movements were fast and precise, his power brutal and overwhelming. Before the others could even process what had happened, he had already closed the distance.
“Sweeping Thousand Armies!”
With a low roar, he unleashed one of his halberd techniques. The weapon whipped through the air, the razor-sharp blade flashing under the dim light of the underground torches. Two men fell simultaneously, their heads nearly severed from their bodies.
Pfft!! Pfft!!!
Their corpses collapsed, blood pooling beneath them. The last man standing panicked.
“Murderer!” he shrieked. “He’s killing everyone! Somebody—”
His scream was cut short. The war halberd pierced through his chest, lifting him off the ground for a brief moment before flinging him aside like a broken doll. Yang Yi let out a slow breath, watching the lifeless bodies before him. “You would rather die of starvation or be eaten alive, wouldn’t you?” he muttered. “This is cleaner.”
He crouched down, ignoring the fading warmth of the corpses, and began looting them. As he searched their pockets and clothing, he noted something interesting—the last man had no food on him. His expression darkened slightly. “No more food?”
The supplies in this underground palace were running out. Even the leaders of small survivor groups were starting to starve. This was a problem.
……………………………………………………………………………
If people were starving, they would eventually turn to cannibalism. The killings would escalate, and soon, he wouldn’t just be fighting desperate survivors—he would be fighting true monsters. He glanced down at his halberd, then back toward the depths of the corridor.
Tonight, he wasn’t just going to kill a few people. He was going to wipe out everyone in this corridor. By the time he was done, he would be the only one left standing. And if he looted enough corpses, he might even break through to the Hua Jin realm. His cleansing had only just begun.
What do you think?
