Chapter 40 - 40 15 Revealing the Sharp Edge
Chapter 40: Chapter 15: Revealing the Sharp Edge Chapter 40: Chapter 15: Revealing the Sharp Edge The frantic increase in magic power made Komer feel as if his entire body was brimming with endless magic power, desperately needing some way to vent it, like a dam that had slowly accumulated too much water needed an outlet to release it. Only by continuously casting various spells was he able to let out the surging magic power.
Unfortunately, aside from Dark Magic and Undead Magic, White Magic and attack Magic were not Komer’s strengths. But in this situation, how could he dare to cast Dark Magic and Undead Magic? Wouldn’t that be asking for trouble?
Even several Masked knights and Thunderhorse Knights felt the swell of magical power behind them. The first to benefit was Pike, the Masked knight defending the North. Although there were fewer Gray Wolves in his area, as time went on, the wolves’ individual abilities became much stronger, especially when a group of Red-maned Wolves appeared, the severely exhausted Pike could hardly withstand the attacks of three Red-maned Wolves.
Each breath he exhaled released a chill strong enough to freeze an ordinary person instantly. One could even see the white frost clearly on Pike’s shiny mask. The Red-maned Wolves were completely different from the earliest Gray Wolves; they did not attack recklessly but instead covered for each other in groups of two or three to form an attack pack, even using deceptive strategies like the sound to shift the enemy’s focus to attempt to break the defense line. This wide range of distracting attacks caused Pike’s physical exhaustion to be even greater.
He had already used recovery magic twice in succession, hoping to recover his physical strength, but after only a few moments, he found himself gasping for air, and the thoughts of despair began to rise in his mind slowly.
He knew that if the Gray Wolves broke through at his location, the entire defense circle would collapse, and everyone would be buried in the wolves’ bellies. He couldn’t fall, but the harsh reality had drained all his strength, and he simply couldn’t hold on any longer.
The Knight Spear felt unusually heavy, and even the movement of his body seemed to slow down. The cunning Gray Wolves immediately noticed this change, and one more Red-maned Wolf joined the attack line in the North.
Pike could clearly hear his own labored breathing, like a bellows in disrepair. His hand deftly pulled the Knight Spear, a Red-maned Wolf that leaped at him mid-air was sprayed with blood and flesh, yet it rolled agilely in the air to dodge the fatal blow.
At that moment, another Red-maned Wolf that had joined the battlefield was already sneaking up beneath Pike, who was fully focused on defending against another incoming Gray Wolf. Just as the Gray Wolf raised its dark paws for a sneak attack, a crossbow bolt pierced deep into the wolf’s head with a crisp thud.
Only then did the Masked knight realize the situation, and while breaking out in a cold sweat, he stole a glance behind him. Puber, shivering with cold, was hopping on top of the Horse-drawn carriage while sliding a Crossbow Case back into his sleeve.
At the same time, Komer quietly formed a spell with his fingers in front of his chest and murmured. A tremendous energy surge instantly flowed into Pike, who was already on the verge of collapse.
Faced with a dangerous situation, the revitalized Pike didn’t have time to think. The originally dim Lu Chen Spear suddenly burst into dark light, feeling even more powerful than at his peak. A warm sensation flowed continuously throughout his body. The Lu Chen Spear cut through the air with a piercing screech, and the dark shadow fiercely expelled two Red-maned Wolves—one from the left and one from the right—were hit by the spear’s shadow, torn into two pieces before they could even scream. The immense power of the blow left even Pike astonished at his sudden overwhelming strength.
Meanwhile, Komer didn’t linger on it either. The Gray Wolves coming from the East had also broken through the defenses of the Two lightning horse knights. Six or seven Red-maned Wolves, with the cooperation of over a dozen ordinary Gray Wolves, finally tore open the defenses. Morssen’s right arm was showing ghastly white bone, and the stark red blood had splattered his deep grey Knight Cloak in splotches.
Jack’s situation was hardly better. Continuously unleashing his mightiest signature move, “Phantom Sky Ripping,” indeed inflicted heavy losses on the Red-maned Wolves, but it also caused his Inner Qi to hemorrhage nonstop. Moreover, as he constantly used enhancement spells to bolster his own body, he reached the brink of exhaustion. His beautiful Knight Cloak was torn to shreds by wolf claws, and the thin trails of blood on his back made every exertion a trial, with a bone-chilling cold seeping into his innards with each tearing pain.
Almost simultaneously, a tremendous surge of warmth flooded into the bodies of the two Masked Knights. Feeling the shock, they did not hesitate to discharge a huge dark bloom from their Knight Spears. Seventeen Red-maned Wolves that pounced from the air were torn to shreds by the widespread volley piercing the sky; and the encroaching icy chill froze the two Masked Knights on the spot as the wolves’ bodies exploded.
This was the Magic power outburst of a High-Level Ice Elemental Beast at the moment of sensing its death, a special form of eruption that results in the beast itself turning to ash. Naturally, any being in the path of this magic surge would inevitably suffer from the Magic attack, a mutual destruction of sorts.
At that moment, Komer saw the crisis emerge. The two Masked Knights were suddenly frozen solid, leaving the eastern defensive gate wide open. Although the Red-maned Wolves were all slain, more than a dozen ordinary Gray Wolves saw their chance and pounced with roars.
In his panic, Komer could not care for anything else. If the two Masked Knights were to perish, his group would be doomed as well. He chanted an unfamiliar spell in haste, “Lotus fire within my heart, kindle thine flame alone, heavens tremble on the brink, bless me with thy heart divine! Rise!”
Under the astonished gazes of onlookers, a massive wall of fire rapidly formed with a gesture of Komer’s hand. Carrying slices of sky-blue flames, it rose from the ground with the pitiful cries of hellish specters. The entire area in front became immersed in a sea of flames. The sky-blue flames seared the Gray Wolves within, their agonized howling echoing through the forest. The pungent scent of char filled the air, and the Gray Wolves attacking from other directions too felt a twinge of fear.
Meanwhile, the Thunderhorse Knights were at the end of their tether. Countless Red-maned Wolves lunged from all directions as icy fog continuously solidified the air. The ghastly breeze raised by wolf claws howled fiercely, shaking the soul. Komer gritted his teeth, beads of sweat the size of beans rolling down his forehead, his face turning an exceptionally pale shade as he pointed his finger and silently recited, “Serpent Dance of the Nine Netherworlds, my heart remains steadfast, Fire Phantom, seamless and boundless! Transform!”
A thick Fire Snake materialized in the air, coiling around the circle of defense before suddenly plunging down and rushing to the periphery. The blazing Fire Snake moved with incredible agility, like a real serpent, rapidly circling the defensive line. The sky-blue flame occasionally sparked with purple-black embers, roasting the Red-maned Wolves about to pounce, who tried to extinguish this fearsome flame by exhaling icy mists desperately.
With the support of the Fire Snake, the two Thunderhorse Knights also exerted their full strength for one last struggle. Their crystal-clear Knight Spears became a vast ring of light that gradually expanded outward like divine radiance from the heavenly realm. It was the Holy Light Spell combined with the Initial Stage of Fighting Qi, a technique of such awe that even at its most basic level, it was enough to astound.
When the immense ring of light pushed outward to its limit, it suddenly shattered, transforming into myriad tiny points of light that burst violently outward, illuminating the entire forest as if by daylight.
The Red-maned Wolves avoiding and defending against the searing Fire Snake were caught off guard and struck by the scattered specks of light. The might of the Holy Light, reinforced by the Light Fighting Qi of the spears, mercilessly penetrated the bodies of the unsuspecting wolves. With ease, it sliced countless Red-maned Wolves into fragments, a greyish blood rain soaring skyward, becoming a vast mist of blood.
The Gray Wolves finally retreated. On one hand, the main part of the pack had already crossed the Avenue and ventured into the other side of the Forest. On the other hand, the few wolves attacking Komer and his party were deterred by the unexpectedly formidable resistance that they had thought was an easy catch.
Although lacking consciousness, the innate fear within the bones is something all creatures possess. Faced with the overwhelming strength displayed by their opponents, the wolves had no choice but to retreat, scurrying after the endless Gray Wolf Pack in defeat.
What do you think?
