The Vastness of Magical Destiny

Chapter 39 - 39 14 Working Together

Chapter 39: Chapter 14: Working Together Chapter 39: Chapter 14: Working Together Meanwhile, the three fallen knights who had already set up an ambush also realized the sudden change in the situation. The faint presence of magical beasts they had sensed before had suddenly become frenzied and turbulent. It was like a hornet’s nest that had been abruptly pierced, bursting open and swarming toward them.

Although they couldn’t be certain which type of magical beast it was, the leading fallen knight was able to detect a cold, sinister smell in the oncoming stench, clearly indicating the beasts were of the ice or wind variety, with ice beasts being the most likely.

As their targets entered the attack range, the three fallen knights could hear the immense sounds of impact coming from the flank. The leading knight, who had already raised his knight spear to implement the first wave of attacks, was now facing a painful choice.

If they took down the targets first, they might face the onslaught of the monster group sweeping in from the flank. However, if they missed this golden opportunity, when the targets were busy defending against and dodging the attack of the monsters, finding another suitable moment would be much harder.

He had noticed that two more people had joined the group of targets, and according to his observations, both of these individuals seemed to possess quite impressive abilities, even capable of rivaling his two companions. Furthermore, the slave who was said to have come from the Myron Duchy as a prisoner of war also seemed to have hidden strength. In fact, these were just fleeting thoughts in the mind of the lead knight.

“Jack, it’s gray wolves, countless gray wolves on the side!” Peter’s urgent voice came from behind, tinged with a hint of nervousness.

The targets had already run to within less than ten meters from them and had clearly noticed these three peculiar figures wearing tricolored masks. The two leading knights, wary eyes flashing, also lifted their knight spears at an angle, clearly suspicious of these three strangers, especially at a time like this.

An ear-piercing howl accompanied by waves of cold, stench-laden wind burst forth, and the boundless gray wolf pack finally rushed out of the forest, sweeping up both groups of people they happened upon indiscriminately. The masked knight shook his knight spear furiously and, in an instant, two gray wolves with bristling manes were swept across the throat by the huge spear shadow, with their bluish-gray blood spurting more than a yard high as their massive bodies fell near the steed, raising a cloud of dust.

“It’s too late, we must join forces to form a defensive formation, only this way can we endure this attack. These gray wolves are migrating, they span several miles before and behind us, we only need to hold out for this period of time!” the masked knight called Jack roared, pulling his knight spear back fiercely as another large gray wolf that had lunged from behind crashed headfirst into the spear tip that was now faintly glowing with a crimson halo. “Quickly, or else we’ll all end up dead here!”

To tell the truth, Jack hadn’t anticipated the scale of this gray wolf pack to be so vast. He had never imagined that Greenland Great Forest would be home to so many gray wolves. While gray wolves were not among the most formidable of magical beasts, these creatures lived in packs and were cunning, combining the wickedness of wolves with the craftiness of foxes, as well as a stubborn ferocity. He had encountered gray wolf packs before, but the scale of this encounter paled in comparison.

The two Thunderhorse Knights were still embroiled in a bitter fight. Perhaps it was the inherent aura that attracted the hatred of magical beasts, but the gray wolves, leaping through the air, gnashed their fangs and expelled a burst of beast breath in unison. This was the unique magic attack of magical beasts, and as the stench left the wolves’ mouths, it instantly formed into a mist, causing the temperature within the entire area to drop as if plunged into the depths of winter, leaving those without inner protection shivering violently.

The Green Knight’s shining knight spear created a splendid ring of light, with countless spear shadows transforming into a massive grinding disc. This was the true power of a fully strengthened Light Series knight, with countless gray wolves falling to the dust upon contact with the ring.

Knight Maray was even more valiant, his knight spear bursting forth with a dazzling rainbow each time he lunged. The seven-colored halo shone like a jewel flower twinkling under the sun, and with every flex of the ever-changing spear tip, a foul-smelling trail of blood was drawn from the throats of the wolves that madly charged at him. Within two yards of the Thunderhorse Knights, the gleaming flashes made the wolves, despite their desperation, unable to come any closer.

“Is this the true strength of the Thunderhorse Knights?” Admiring the extraordinary prowess of the Thunderhorse Knights, Komer had leapt onto the middle one of the three carriages at the first opportunity, while Ilot had already wielded his Great Sword, which had been enchanted with Dark Arts by Komer. Silently gathering his internal energy, he had already merged his mind and spirit with the blade, and each swing brought endless thunder and wind.

For a time, wolf heads and claws flew wildly, scattering the putrid smell of blood everywhere. Despite the temperature dropping under the influence of the gray wolves’ ice magic, the more excited Ilot became, the hotter his blood boiled as he fought, attacking here and there without any regard for the increasing number of gray wolves swarming towards him.

Several strong horses pulling the carriages attempted to break free and flee when the gray wolves attacked, but at such a time, there was no chance of escape. Caught in the chaos of wolves, after a few pitiful whines, they were reduced to blood-stained pieces of flesh.

Even the three servants could not escape their fate, torn to shreds by the wolves as they tried to climb on top of the horse-drawn carriages to escape. This caused Puber, who had climbed atop the carriage first, to beat his chest in distress. Buying new servants would cost a considerable sum.

“Morssen, you and I will guard the east,” the masked knight shouted, “Pike, you guard the northwest, you two the south, the rest of you the west! Quickly form the formation, if we don’t form it now and let the gray wolves break through, we’ll stand no chance!”

Jack’s thunderous roar sobered up those who were indulging in the fight. Even the two Thunderhorse Knights realized the severity of the situation. Although they seemed to have the upper hand, having already taken down more than a dozen gray wolves with their spears and swords, more and more ice wolves were pouring out of the forest. The smell of blood from their own kind further enraged them. As time went on, the emerging gray wolves grew larger and stronger, clearly the stronger ones of the wolf pack.

In such a situation, there was no time to think too much. If they did not unite, everyone would end up as food for the gray wolves. The Thunderhorse Knights immediately took up positions in the south, while the three masked knights guarded the east and the north. Ilot, Fran, and Baoling held fast in the west, with even Komer jumping down from the carriage to join the north, also supporting the western side.

The relentless waves of the Gray Wolf Pack’s assault quickly plunged the nine-man defense into a bitter struggle, with the eastern frontline bearing the brunt as it was the direction from which the wolves were bursting out of the forest, naturally taking on the greatest pressure.

The prowess of the two masked knights was fully displayed, their black knight spears turning into two black dragons, slashing wildly and stirring up a storm of blood and gore. The two knights to the south were no less fierce, their lustrous silver knight spears moved fluidly, their spear moves frigid and swift, turning back the dense gray wolves that dared not venture close.

The western defense line formed by Komer, Ilot, Fran, and Baoling was equally solid. Fran and Baoling, both battle-hardened warriors, especially Fran, though not fully recovered, had Baoling, who was physically robust, handle the frontal defense while he took care of the side attacks.

His movements were simple and powerful, without any superfluous flair, yet extremely effective. With each thrust of his sword, he would strike the throat, slaying with a single blow. Ilot alone held off half of the assault, protecting Komer from the flank with his greatsword, staunchly blocking the charge of the gray wolves.

The howling grew louder, and with each tragic wail, countless gray wolves would respond with howls of their own. Komer stood within the central circle, subtly raising a scepter in his hand and directing it towards those beside him, silently casting blessing and strengthening spells, thereby enhancing the defensive abilities of Ilot, Fran, and Baoling, as well as the attack power of their weapons.

However, such supportive magic was not Komer’s strong suit, nor had he focused much on it, and in terms of magical depth, he could not sustain casting continuous blessings. But, the continuous death of the gray wolves seemed to accumulate some sort of dark energy, which seemed to also stimulate that unknown source of magic power within Komer.

The two similarly dark auras faced off against each other, attracted, entwined, elevating the magic within Komer that he had struggled to improve. He felt a constant and significant leap in his magical power and insight into magic at that moment.
