Chapter 19: Chapter 19 She is a Swindler (2)
It feels like a lifetime has passed since I last came here over a month ago.
Mia Ginger walked silently, bumping right into a man hurriedly emerging from the alley ahead of her.
"Whoa, this girl’s walking without paying any attention!" The man stepped back and got a good look at her, unable to resist whistling with a smile, locking eyes with Louis Cox, who was squinting at him.
"Oh," the man was momentarily stunned but quickly regained his composure, hurriedly smiling, "Hello, Brother Louis, I didn’t know she was under your protection. Please excuse me, I just have a foul mouth, hehe, a foul mouth."
"Get lost." Louis snorted, clearly annoyed.
The man took off as if he had been granted a pardon, hastily walked away, and couldn’t help but glance back after a few steps, nodding and bowing.
Eastern Peak Village was Cox Family’s territory, which Mia was well aware of long ago. However, she never expected that Louis’ deterrence would reach such an extent now.
Lost in thought, she fell a step behind and followed the three people back to the door. Sure enough, she saw Louis’ off-road motorcycle again.
Camilia Davis, who remained unmarried, rented the first floor of a residential house when she arrived at Eastern Peak Village. It had two rooms connected to a living room, totaling just over sixty square meters.
There were two jackets thrown on the sofa in the living room, with water cups and dishes casually placed on the small coffee table. A banana was already covered in black spots, on the verge of rotting.
Little Patten helped Camilia into a room, watched her lie back against the pillow, and Mia spoke softly, "Rest well, I have to go back now, I’ll come by another day."
"Let me cook first, and you can leave after eating." Camilia attempted to get out of bed.
"No need." Mia looked at Little Patten, "Could you please go out and buy some food for her later, pick some fruit too."
"No problem." Little Patten responded enthusiastically, startled as he saw her turning to leave immediately, he called out in surprise, "Sister Mia, are you leaving already?"
"Wait, no," he glanced at Louis, then at Camilia, "Hey, Aunt Davis, she... this... this can’t be right!"
Louis’ face turned livid, and he strode out, grabbing Mia by the wrist, "What’s going on with you?!"
"Nothing." Mia smiled faintly, "Please take care of her if you can."
"She’s not my mom!" Louis was furious, not even caring that Camilia was in the room.
"She’s not my mom either!" Mia suddenly raised her head to look at him, her eyes shining brightly with tears, she gritted her teeth.
"She’s not your mom?" Louis sneered, "Who got up early every day to sell buns and raise you for over a decade? Who got twenty stitches on her arm protecting you? Who scrimped and saved to buy you new clothes? Has your conscience been eaten by dogs?!"
"Serves her right!" Mia struggled to free her wrist from his hand, "She deserves it, let go of me! Louis, let go of me, do you hear?!"
"No!" Louis dragged her toward the room, "You think being a rich girl is amazing? So amazing you don’t even want a mom when you see wealthy people, I can’t fucking believe it!"
"Let go of me." Mia lifted a foot and kicked toward his knee.
Louis suddenly stopped, forcefully pulling her into his arms, glaring angrily.
Only Mia dared to use force against this Fourth Brother, but usually this Fourth Brother wasn’t as furious as he was now. Little Patten was trembling, and Camilia quickly got up and said to Louis, "Enough, enough, Louis let her go, don’t hurt her."
"Aunt Davis, don’t interfere!" Louis turned his head and said, "I refuse to believe this nonsense!"
"No, Mia has sensitive skin, one grab will leave a mark, how will she explain this when she gets home?"
"Explain to hell, this is her home!"
"Enough!" Mia suddenly broke free from his grip, glaring at him intensely, her lips quivering, "This is not my home! Louis, listen to me well, this is not my home, it’s not!"
"It is!" Louis was fuming.
"No, it’s not!" Mia suddenly turned her head to look at Camilia, "It’s her! She knew about my identity but pretended not to know and kept me for seventeen years."
Her voice began to tremble, "She let me stay with her for seventeen years, you know exactly how I lived those years. She’s not my mom, she’s a liar! Do you think her kindness can make up for seventeen years of pain and absence?"
She looked Louis in the eye, tears finally falling unhindered, her thin shoulders shaking violently with emotion.
"A liar." Mia suddenly laughed out loud, pronouncing each word clearly, "You’re right, but do you know the life I returned home to? A mother who despises and mocks me, a brother who sees me as an enemy, a fiancé nearly ended up with someone else, even the servants look down on me!"
She stepped back, one hand clutching the door frame, "That’s my home, and I couldn’t integrate into it after being back for over a month. I don’t understand piano or dance, I don’t know how to arrange flowers or cook, wearing high heels is a joke, and even, even I can’t use a knife and fork."
"Louis," her smile was brilliant yet bitter, "have you ever seen such a rich girl?"
What do you think?
