Chapter 324
Plop— Plop—.
The ground was muddy from the rain. I looked down at my work boots, which were uncomfortably caked in mud, and slowly approached Ethan.
Ethan was staring blankly at something.
Following his gaze, I saw that tiny sprouts were just beginning to emerge from the ground. It was proof that spring was coming after the winter had passed.
"Ethan."
I tilted the umbrella I was holding and placed it over his head.
He slowly lifted his head and looked at me. The sight of him, completely drenched in the rain, was pitiful.
Why does this man always have to do this to me? It’s like he and Louis take turns breaking my heart.
"Why are you doing this? Louis’ fever just went down, and now you're going to end up sick yourself."
"I should have been the one to get sick instead of Louis."
Ethan muttered with a dark expression.
This was the first time I had seen Ethan like this. Seeing him as a father to a child, he was very different from the Ethan I knew. It was refreshing and made me feel grateful.
"Don’t say that. If you get sick, I’ll be sad."
"If Louis gets sick, that would be even sadder."
"That’s true."
At my response, Ethan sulked again.
"Louis is special. It’s normal for kids to get sick as they grow. That’s how they build immunity."
Even as I said this, like any parent, I hoped my child would never get sick. But I said it for Ethan’s sake.
Of course, I knew that this wouldn’t make Ethan feel any better, but at least I thought he needed to pull himself together.
"Right. After taking the antidote Ezra gave him, the fever completely went down."
"Yes. I think he’ll be fine and up tomorrow."
What do you think?
