Chapter 298
For quite some time, I was cradled in Ethan’s arms as we flew through the air, only calming down and stepping away when Harrison arrived.
“I cannot approve of your relationship.”
And with that, Harrison made his declaration.
Hearing those words, I felt both a deep sense of déjà vu and unexpected emotion toward Harrison.
How many times had Duke Lancaster said the same thing to me, and how much had it hurt?
Since my parents were gone, I had thought there was no one left to say those things to me anymore.
Why had I ever felt so small and dispirited? I had Harrison right here!
I grabbed both of Harrison’s hands and teared up. Then, I repeated to him the words I had once heard from Duke Lancaster—detailing just how much humiliation I had endured.
“Keep going, Harrison. I really want to hear it.”
“Miss Cherry, that could be misleading. If someone heard, they might think I kidnapped you or something—”
Ethan started to protest, but one terrifying glare from Harrison froze him in place.
“Do you even know how upset I was back then? I honestly thought, ‘How is someone without a father supposed to survive in this world?’”
Sniff. I dramatically leaned into Harrison’s embrace, pretending to weep, while Ethan stood there, completely at a loss.
“While that damn Duke Lancaster was crushing our lady’s spirit, where exactly were you, Sir Ethan?”
Though calling him damn Duke Lancaster seemed a bit redundant—he was Duke Lancaster, after all.
But still, having someone who was unconditionally on my side felt amazing.
Harrison’s single remark had Ethan raising both hands in surrender.
“Fine. I’m sorry, Miss Cherry. It’s my fault for having a father like that. It’s all my fault.”
Wait, if you put it that way, doesn’t that make me look bad?
“Alright, stop your little lovers’ quarrel and gather up.”
Aurora was the one who finally put an end to our conversation.
With no other choice, we turned our attention to her.
It was time for the Springborne removal process.
I turned to look at Ezra’s expression again.
It wasn’t dark, but it wasn’t exactly bright either.
What should I say?
From the looks of it, the removal process wasn’t all that different from what we had done to Duke Lancaster.
The only difference was that Lancaster hadn’t actually been a carrier, which explained why his reaction had been different from ours.
Aurora reassured us not to be afraid.
And so, I quietly took Aurora’s hand.
As time passed, a bubbling sensation began to rise inside me.
My stomach churned uncomfortably.
Urk.
The moment I dry-heaved, Ethan, Harrison, and Ezra all rushed to support me at the same time.
For a brief second, the way all three of them hovered around me made me feel like I was experiencing morning sickness or something.
Of course, Aurora’s sharp look had them stepping back immediately.
At first, it felt as if something was writhing in my bloodstream.
Then, a sensation like it was sweeping through my entire body followed.
It was deeply unpleasant.
What do you think?
