Chapter 297
The outdoor makeshift table was set up once again.
The members of Happy House reassembled the temporary canopy that Cherry, Nox, and Ethan had once built together in the past.
Though the late autumn air was a bit chilly, the crisp atmosphere lifted everyone’s spirits as they prepared the meal with cheerful expressions.
Ethan, who had wanted to sit next to Cherry, found himself unexpectedly placed at the head seat instead—thanks to Harrison’s interference.
Across from Cherry and Harrison sat Ezra and Nox. Behind them, Amy, Jose, Emma, Victor, Susanna, and Michelle took their seats.
“It’s been months since we last gathered together like this for a meal.”
Victor, who had steadfastly protected Happy House, covered his mouth in emotion.
“Mr. Hope, how’s your injury?”
“Oh, it’s completely fine now.”
Victor raised a fist with a proud grin.
He had suffered severe wounds during Marquis Ludfisher’s invasion, but thankfully, he had fully recovered by now.
After a few rounds of playful bickering with Harrison and Ethan, Cherry finally gave in to the growing insistence of those around her and reluctantly raised her glass. Immediately, all eyes turned to her.
Cherry pulled her coat closer, smiled, and lifted her glass.
“You’ve all worked hard for the past ten days. Though we’ve been here for a while, this is the first time we’re sharing a meal together.”
She glanced around at everyone seated at the table, smiling warmly.
“A lot has happened, but I’m just grateful that we’re all safe.”
At her words, everyone momentarily fell into silence, lost in thought. The sheer number of trials they had faced, the countless brushes with death—it was impossible to put into words.
Then, Amy spoke up.
“To be honest, I thought at least one of us wasn’t going to make it. And I figured that one would be me.”
“Amy.”
“I mean it. The moment we arrived in Benton, I thought, ‘I’m seriously screwed.’”
Jose clasped Amy’s trembling hand tightly. It was still affected by the aftereffects of being shot by Prince Lloyd.
“Honestly, if Mr. Ludfisher hadn’t developed the cure, I don’t even want to imagine how things would have turned out.”
Vanilla, who had been listening quietly, added her thoughts. Nox chuckled and shrugged.
“Well, I had the luxury of conducting my research comfortably in the shelter that Miss Cherry so excellently organized. The ones who really suffered were the two who were always at the front lines.”
He turned the credit toward Cherry and Ethan.
What do you think?
