Chapter 102: 102: For My Daughter
Chapter 102: Chapter 102: For My Daughter
Pei Yansi was extremely possessive, especially of things that he considered his own. In his eyes, even though Shen Heyu was his ex-wife, she still belonged to him, and the same went without saying for Yuexue.
If anyone tried to get even slightly close to them, he would be extremely displeased.
That was exactly how he felt about Shen Jiangli at the moment.
Shen Jiangli had good intentions, but seeing him like this, his deep-rooted temper as the young master couldn’t be restrained as he said, “Now you finally acknowledge that Yuexue is your daughter? Did you fulfill your responsibilities as a father in these past six years?”
Pei Yansi’s gaze turned even colder as he responded, “That’s none of your business.”
Shen Jiangli snorted coldly and said, “If you were guiltless, you wouldn’t be worried about who would interfere; you would simply accept anyone’s questions with an open heart.”
“Questions?” Pei Yansi replied, “You are not qualified to question me.”
After speaking, he laughed coldly, his laughter devoid of warmth, even carrying a hint of mockery, “I remember that the Shen Group is currently preparing to relocate its business domestically. Young Master Shen should worry about his own business first.”
“After all, with Pei Yansi here, whether or not you can establish yourself domestically depends entirely on me.”
Shen Jiangli furrowed his brows and paused for a second or two without responding.
Shen Heyu, hearing the tense exchange between the two men, particularly knowing about Shen Group’s relocation of business domestically, understood that aligning with Pei Yansi was essential.
There was no need to anger Pei Yansi because of her.
She hastily said to Shen Jiangli, “There’s nothing more here for me, thank you for tonight. You can go back first.”
Shen Jiangli, aware of the potential pros and cons, wasn’t like Lu Yi, who had grown up in a wealthy family and acted without worries.
To put it bluntly, he was a hothead who believed that no matter what, there would always be someone to back him up.
His family had only started flourishing after moving abroad, and he cherished everything he had attained; there was no need to provoke someone who might harm him.
Weighing the pros and cons in his mind, Shen Jiangli finally said to Shen Heyu, “If there’s anything else, call me. You don’t need to come to the company these days. Let’s talk after you’re done with everything, and I will also try my best to help with Yuexue’s eye issue.”
Shen Heyu thanked him and walked him to the door before turning back.
She went to Yuexue’s bedside and didn’t bother interacting with Pei Yansi.
Pei Yansi’s face was so dark it could drip blood; he silently watched her, and after a while, feeling she had looked at Yuexue long enough, he finally said, “Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Shen Heyu, expressionless and with a cold voice, replied, “I have nothing to say to you.”
Dissatisfied, Pei Yansi stepped forward, reached out, and abruptly pulled her into his arms.
He sat on the sofa and pulled Shen Heyu down with him, seating her on his lap.
He placed his hand on her waist, pressing her into his embrace, and with his lips near her ear, he whispered, “Has Shen Jiangli been with you and your daughter all these six years?”
“Yes.”
Shen Heyu coldly, almost defiantly said that actually, Shen Jiangli wasn’t around her much.
Pei Yansi’s expression turned even colder, and he stared at her for a long time without speaking.
Under his intense gaze, Shen Heyu’s heartbeat quickened, feeling both fear and annoyance.
He gazed deeply into her eyes as if to see through her, to read her completely.
“Shen Heyu, I genuinely want to make things right with you. I’ll bring you and our daughter over and make up for the six years we missed. Don’t deliberately anger me.”
It was as if he had seen through her, unveiling her thoughts directly.
Shen Heyu lowered her eyes, feeling his gentle touch on her waist, which carried a sense of intimacy and tenderness.
But…
there was no love.
She stayed silent for a long time, not speaking.
Pei Yansi dissatisfied, asked “Mute?”
Shen Heyu replied solemnly, “I don’t believe you. All these years, I have become accustomed to taking care of Yuexue on my own. I don’t know what your motives are, but I am not going to bring Yuexue back to you.”
Bai Sheng’er and Meng Ru, although these two people had not appeared in these many years, as soon as she had returned to the country, they had also entered her life.
And, twice, they both hurt Yuexue to different degrees.
Pei Yansi remembered what the old lady had said.
He was supposed to smooth out the wrinkles in her heart.
But he couldn’t bring himself to chase after someone and smooth out their wrinkles; the most he could do was… forcibly remarry her, keep her by his side, and slowly prove himself through his actions.
He struggled for a long while, only managing to say, “I am serious.”
After he spoke, he heard her gently ask, “Why?”
Her gaze was indifferent, but when she looked at him, it felt as if a thousand pounds weighed on him, making it hard to breathe. He said, “Pei Yansi, what is it for? If it’s just the guilt from those six years, you don’t need to do this. After all, I never thought about asking you to make up for anything.”
“Your absence during those six years, in fact, provided a better environment for me.”
She was clear-headed and knew that Pei Yansi didn’t treat her and Yuexue this way out of love. So what was his reason for staying with her?
Pei Yansi remained silent.
Her question was clearly not difficult.
Not just undifficult, but frankly straightforward.
But for some reason, he just couldn’t answer. Although his chest felt full of words he wanted to say to her, he couldn’t figure out where to start.
Could he say that, during those six years, he had spent nearly every night in their marital bedroom thinking about her? Because she carried “someone else’s” child and his heart was always in pain?
He thought long and hard, and finally only managed to utter a dry, “For Yuexue. I want our daughter to grow up in a healthy environment.”
He didn’t know that this seemingly innocuous statement, when it landed on Shen Heyu’s ears, became like a million needles, piercing the pain deep into her heart.
He wanted to be with her, but it was just a momentary impulse. And, it was all for Yuexue, nothing to do with her.
She knew this was going to be the outcome.
But why couldn’t she stop the tightness and pain in her chest?
Shen Heyu struggled, got off him, and said, “If that’s the case, there’s really no need. My daughter is also living well and healthy now, and without those mistresses of yours poisoning her, she could live even better.”
Pei Yansi didn’t catch the deeper meaning in her words, nor did he know how his words had hurt her. He said, “I will take care of those people.”
Shen Heyu didn’t respond.
Whether he dealt with it or not was no longer so important to her; she was no longer the Shen Heyu from six years ago who yearned for love.
Pei Yansi moved a bit closer to her and said, “Zhao Jin is already contacting people to donate corneas. Yuexue will be well soon.”
He paused, then added a rare word of comfort, “You don’t have to worry too much; I will take care of Yuexue’s situation.”
Just as Shen Heyu was about to speak, she suddenly heard her stomach growl.
What do you think?
