Ch 100: Center Raid — Battle Against Time. [2/Last]
In the office of the Director, it was evident that someone had been searching for the entire room and the Director's computer. It was not the Director, as the room was dim and almost non-existent to see and used by the owner of the room.
The person searching was drenched in sweat, not due to tension, but because of the heat generated by wearing a suit.
However, this problem was quickly resolved when Rey, the person searching the room, received a notification about his issue, which alleviated it immediately.
<Talent [Umbral Adaptation] has detected an increase in heat around the host's body. Initiating resistance build-up...>
<Host body is adapting to the rising internal and external heat levels.>
<Resistance threshold has been reached. Forming resistance skill...>
<New ability acquired.>

Rey checked the stats and found a new tab appearing on the system screen.
"What's this new thing rising in the system, Aiden?" he asked him, who was also viewing the system notifications.
"Oh, nothing. Just benefits you're going to gain from now on. You should be prepared as many of resistance will build inside you. If you manage to gain Curse resistance, you can maybe gain immunity the curse you're holding, but that's a long path," he said. Rey, who understood a little, continued to search the desktop.
After some searching, he found something—a contract a PDF attached to it.
When he started to read understood the issue.
A hidden party was behind the items scheme going on in most centers in the Dragon Kingdom.
Almost all the Martial centers are in such scandals, except for two or some that didn't agree to it but are under great pressure comply or change their directors.
Even this city Director is directly attached to this scheme; everyone is in this scandal to earn big.
Rey first thought that maybe the Empire was behind it, but if they were, no one would be opposing them, not even one, and they would let it happen.
Since some were opposed to it, the Empire couldn't be behind it. If the opposing Directors aren't taking action, then the party behind this must be a big noble or someone they can't oppose, to approach the royal family, by their fear.
Rey then thought to go to the Police headquarters and, with their help as an anonymous messenger, can seek the assistance of the Ashcroft Duke family.
He decided to send the PDF to his phone and close all possible ways to trace his whereabouts later.
He then closed the computer and was about to went outside when Victor came in front of him.
"What happened, why are you blocking my way?"
"Aren't you forgetting something right now, kid?" Victor said with a suspicious look, wondering if the kid really forgot or was just pretending.
"What are you talking about? I didn't.... Oh, that thing, right. Sorry, forgot about it." Rey said, trying to look as if he remembered, even though had no what was and was acting to not get caught.
"Hah, kid, don't try it. I know don't remember. Just remember that this mission was also to recover the money we spent with a super high interest rate. So, are you going to search for it or do you want me to find it? Because then it won't be yours to take." Victor said with a creepy grin as finished his sentence.
"Oh, sorry, I will find it sir."
Rey said as he started searching for the locker or safe in the room.
After searching all the cabinets other, Rey found a small locker, the size of a big box, hidden inside a cabinet.
He found it and, without any more items to take, he stuffed it into his inventory since the locker wasn't attached to the cabinet. He asked Aiden once more if there was anything special left behind, but Aiden denied it. Rey then started to open the door to go outside.
To his dismay, the door was locked from the outside.
His face showed confusion as he tried to force door open again, but nothing worked. He didn't want to destroy the door, as other guards would come.
Little did he know that several, or rather all, guards were present in front of the door, and most doors and windows of the building were sealed so that no one could get away.
"What's happening right now, guys Is something wrong with this door, or did the guard outside lock it to prevent me from escaping?"
"Don't ask me, but to let you prepare first, all building guards are currently in front of the door of this room. The Director of the Center might also be approaching right now. So be ready to face them."
"What? But how? I was clearly in stealth..."
He looked at his body and found himself visible. Something was wrong.
"Aiden, is this your doing?"
"Maybe, maybe not. What happened? Is something wrong?"
Aiden replied with an obvious guilty expression.
"You're such a fool. Can't you let me live a simple life?"
Rey shouted, confusing the guards outside who thought there were more thieves inside and now arguing after getting caught.
They were equipped with guns and cold weapons in case the thieves managed to get outside and confront them.
After venting his anger on Aiden, Rey decided to check if he could find another way to escape.
To his dismay, there was only one way out and nothing more, not even a window, as the Director's office was in the middle of the building.
The whole room went silent as the guards outside didn't hear any sound after the argument.
They started to think something was wrong and pushed one guard to open the door without his consent.
With shaky hands, the guard held the doorknob and was about to open it when a loud bang occurred.
Before he could understand what happened, a heavy punch landed perfectly on his face.
He was sent flying, crashing into the other guards behind him, and they all fell to the ground with the guard who was hit with swollen cheek.
The guards immediately got into a defensive stance, pointing their guns toward the door, ready to shoot if anyone came out.
Minutes passed without anyone emerging, so they decided to head inside. But before they could act, a silhouette rushed toward them.
In the light of the hall, everything was clear as a person holding two daggers and fully covered with dark lustrous clothes over his body, with his face concealed by a mask and an attached cap over his head.
Every guard who was shocked snapped out of the daze and started to attack him. The cold steel holders rushed at him to slice him up while guns were shooting rapidly to hunt him down.
But nothing was happening as they wanted it to be.
The invader was quite nimble and agile to catch up to.
His movement was fast and precise as he was blocking almost all the attacks while dodging those he couldn't block.
But the thing was that, except for small injuries, he wasn't causing damage as if he didn't want to kill.
But the guards weren't thinking like him as their every attack was meant to kill for the duty they were hired for.
Aiden, who was watching this, was getting frustrated over this.
"Kid, what the hell are you doing right now? Do you think this mindset can let you survive? Then maybe you should just die in here."
"But should I really have to kill them? Can't we avoid spilling blood unnecessarily? Isn't killing our own kind who are just following their duty bad?"
"Then why don't you help them and get hit by some blades and bullets, and then you will understand the true nature of the too 'good' righteous guards."
"Okay, but don't disturb me now."
Rey said while dodging, and for the first time, he attacked to kill them.
The guard who attacked him found that the intruder wasn't in front of him, and a blade was plunged into his throat from beside him.
He coughed up blood and fell to the ground as the first kill was done so easily.
Several guards shocked to see him getting killed so easily making them thought that the intruder was toying with them for this whole time.
The real nightmare for the guards began after the first kill.
Rey, now ready to kill, finally started to use his skills to finish the task and leave before more arrived.
"{Umbral Dash}, {Abyssal Burst}, {Phantom Stride}," he activated all three strength and agility-related skills.
His strength and agility increased by a few points, but it was enough to handle them.
His dagger now every time struck the vital points on the guards' bodies, effectively damaging them while even killing them sometime.
The increased strength helped him block, and the agility aided dodging attacks.
He even felt that the strength and agility buffs had increased, indicating that his skills had leveled up.
He was killing left and right without needing to draw more daggers from his shadow.
The problem arose when the Guards holding guns started shooting at him non-stop.
His speed wasn't fast enough to dodge the bullets, and his endurance wasn't sufficient to withstand the shots.
Using a guard's body as a shield, he ran towards a corner of the hall and successfully reached it without major injuries, except for some scratches caused by the excessive rain of bullets.
No one would remain unharmed by such an attack, even with a shield in front much less the body he was using to block.
Thankfully, his regenerative ability wasn't just for show, as the wounds were closing up quickly. He looked toward the guards who were ready to shoot, and just as his head popped out from the corner even a little, they started to shoot again, bullet narrowly missing his head by a few millimeters.
He began to think of a way to counter this and got an idea from his shadow.
Smirking, he looked toward the guards standing in the hallway without any protection, confident that he could not reach them.
Before the guards could comprehend what was happening, a few daggers started coming straight toward them like the intruder throw them toward them. Although the guards were standing close but ready and attentive, they quickly dodged with only minor injuries.
The daggers, which were expected to hit walls or fall downward, didn't stop. Instead, they turned upward and started moving toward the lights in the hall.
Lights began to burst one by one, shrouding the hall in darkness. Before the guards could understand what was happening, they started to fall one by one, crying out in pain.
Several guards turned on their torch lights and found three guys already dead and lying on the ground, with one gasping for air in Rey's hand, a dagger plunged into his heart.
Rey threw him away and looked at the remaining, who were shocked by what had happened.
At the same time, the guards' walkie-talkies rang.
One guard picked up the call and heard from the observer in the security room.
"What are you all doing right now? Hold him down for a few minutes; sir is reaching the center. Then we will see how he can escape. Don't let him escape. Try to stall him, even if you have to die right now, or else the boss will also give you another death which will be much brutal then this one."
The man shouted as all of heard the situation while Rey also listened to the ongoing situation.
'Gotta leave soon, or I'm going to get swept into some serious trouble if these guys boss or anyone else reaches here.'
Rey thought as he rushed toward them, and the guards started to fall back to avoid getting caught in his trap made in darkness. They finally reached the area where light was available. Rey was ready to finish the last six guards standing in front of them.
He thought of something and grinned as he decided to finish it in one go and leave immediately.
His six daggers, which were with him, began to come out from his shadow and float in front of them.
The six guards were shocked to see, as they never imagined such a thing could be accomplished by a human, something only seen in movies or novels.
Even the observer was stunned to witness this.
Before they could react, the six daggers, one different and five identical, rushed straight toward the guards, who, in fear, remained motionless like training dummies, daggers struck at vital points.
Five guards were dead without even a chance to struggle, falling to the ground and going to sleep for eternity.
One guard, whose heart was pierced by the different dagger, remained standing, his mouth spouting gibberish.
His face showed severe pain as his eyes turned red, and his skin darkened.
His injury, initially appearing normal, changed as instead of red blood, a stream of dark blood flowed out, falling onto the ground. His skin swelled around the wounded area, and the dagger fell out due to the muscle swollen increase.
The man fell to the ground, shaking violently. After more struggle, he breathed his last breath.
Perhaps Rey would say that those who died before this man were more blessed, as this man's experience was far more horrific than dying from a facial wound.
"What the hell was that thing?"
"Oh, so the curse is taking root now after your experiences started to accumulate. Maybe the curse was truly dormant until you began to follow the available power-up path," Veylen said as he appeared in front of him, observing the changes that had occurred before his death.
"Huh, I didn't understand this."
"You won't just leave it like that until you start to see it more frequently and then maybe you can understand the concept. Until then, just remember it's related to your curse effects."
Rey didn't ask anything as he checked around to see if anyone was still alive. After searching, he started to walk away.
Meanwhile, the man in the security room was shocked to see such an event occur, and he called his boss to report it.
"Hello boss...."
