Reincarnated in a scientific magic world

Chapter 2: The Mage’s Invitation

Chapter 2: The Mage’s Invitation

Meeks wandered through the strange landscape, his eyes darting from one bizarre sight to the next. Trees with glowing leaves, flowers that hummed softly, and streams of water that sparkled like liquid gemstones—it was all so surreal.

‘This place is insane,’ he thought, kicking a pebble as he walked. ‘I don’t even know where to start. Shelter before nightfall? I don’t even know what “night” looks like here!’

The System screen hovered faintly in his peripheral vision, reminding him of his quest. He sighed and kept moving, hoping he’d stumble across something useful.

---

Meanwhile, miles away, a man stood atop a tower that seemed to pierce the heavens. He was tall and regal, with silver hair that shimmered like moonlight and piercing blue eyes that glowed faintly with magical energy. His robes were embroidered with intricate runes that pulsed softly, as though alive.

This was Aldryn Veylan, the Headmaster of Eryndor’s most prestigious academy for mages—**The Arcanum Institute**.

Aldryn frowned as he gazed at the crystal orb floating before him. It displayed a map of the realm, but something unusual had caught his attention—a ripple in the fabric of space itself.

“A spatial disturbance…” he murmured, his voice thoughtful. “And it’s not natural.”

He waved his hand over the orb, zooming in on the disturbance’s location—a field near the outskirts of the eastern forest. The image sharpened, revealing a lone figure wandering aimlessly: a young man dressed in simple clothes that didn’t belong to this world.

“Interesting,” Aldryn said to himself, his lips curling into a faint smile. “A newcomer.”

With a flick of his wrist, the orb vanished. He turned to the open window and muttered an incantation under his breath. The air shimmered around him before he disappeared in a flash of silver light.

---

Meeks had just started to wonder if he’d ever find shelter when he felt it—a sudden shift in the air around him. It was subtle at first, like the hum of electricity before a storm, but then it grew stronger—a tingling sensation that made his skin prickle.

‘What now?’ he thought nervously.

Before he could react further, a figure appeared out of thin air just a few feet away from him—a man who looked like he’d stepped straight out of an epic fantasy movie. His silver hair and glowing eyes were intimidating enough, but it was the way he carried himself—calm and commanding—that made Meeks freeze in place.

“Greetings,” the man said simply, his voice smooth and authoritative.

Meeks blinked at him, unsure whether to run or respond. “Uh… hi?”

The man studied him for a moment before speaking again. “You’re not from this world.”

It wasn’t a question; it was a statement.

Meeks hesitated but eventually nodded. “Yeah… I guess not.”

The man’s eyes narrowed slightly as if analyzing him further. “You arrived here through an unusual means—a spatial disturbance unlike anything I’ve seen in decades.”

‘I have no idea what you’re talking about,’ Meeks thought but kept quiet.

“I am Aldryn Veylan,” the man continued, “Headmaster of The Arcanum Institute—a place where mages and scholars alike study the mysteries of magic.”

“Magic…” Meeks repeated dumbly.

Aldryn raised an eyebrow at his reaction but didn’t comment on it directly. Instead, he gestured toward Meeks with one hand, and suddenly Meeks felt something—like an invisible force brushing against him.

“What are you doing?” Meeks asked nervously.

“Examining your potential,” Aldryn replied matter-of-factly.

Meeks frowned but didn’t resist—mostly because he didn’t know how to resist whatever this guy was doing.

After a moment, Aldryn’s expression shifted slightly—his curiosity deepening into intrigue. “Fascinating… Your mana signature is unlike anything I’ve encountered before.”

“Mana signature?” Meeks echoed blankly.

“It is the energy that allows one to wield magic,” Aldryn explained patiently. “Everyone in this realm possesses it to some degree—but yours is… unique.”

‘Great,’ Meeks thought sarcastically. ‘I’m weird even in another world.’

Aldryn took a step closer, his tone growing more serious. “You have potential—great potential—and I believe you may be connected to something far larger than either of us can imagine.”

Meeks stared at him blankly for a moment before blurting out: “Look, I don’t know what you’re talking about! I’m just some guy who got dumped into this world with no warning!”

Aldryn’s expression softened slightly—not with pity but with understanding. “I can help you,” he said simply.

“Help me?” Meeks repeated skeptically.

“Yes,” Aldryn replied firmly. “If you come with me to The Arcanum Institute, I can teach you how to harness your abilities—to understand both magic and science as they coexist in this realm.”

Meeks hesitated again, glancing around at the strange landscape surrounding them. He didn’t trust this guy completely—not yet—but what other choice did he have? Wandering aimlessly wasn’t exactly working out for him.

“Alright,” he said finally, though his voice still carried some uncertainty. “I’ll go with you.”

Aldryn nodded approvingly and extended his hand toward Meeks. “Then let us depart.”

As soon as Meeks took Aldryn’s hand, the world around them dissolved into light—a shimmering cascade of silver and gold that whisked them away from the field.

---

When the light faded, Meeks found himself standing in front of something extraordinary: a massive castle-like structure carved from gleaming white stone and surrounded by floating platforms that pulsed with magical energy.

“This is The Arcanum Institute,” Aldryn said proudly as they approached the grand entrance gates adorned with glowing runes.

Meeks stared up at it in awe—and maybe just a little bit of fear.

‘What have I gotten myself into?’ he thought nervously as they stepped inside.

Little did he know that this academy would be where his journey truly began—and where both science and magic would collide in ways he could never have imagined.
