Chapter 22 - 22 22 Its Really Karma
Chapter 22: Chapter 22: It’s Really Karma Chapter 22: Chapter 22: It’s Really Karma Back at school.
Lin Zhiyi pushed open the dormitory door; her roommates were still out, apparently, they had said in the group chat that they were going for interviews.
She opened her own cupboard, looked at the things inside, and squinted her eyes slightly.
Just as she was about to reach for something, a voice sounded from behind.
“Zhiyi.”
Lin Zhiyi lowered her hand, turned around, and Shen Yan rushed in front of her, slapping her own face frantically.
“Zhiyi, I’m so sorry!”
“It’s all my fault because I was terrified of being poor. Journalist Chen said he just needed to use your account to say a few words, and I believed him.”
“You know my mom always looked down on me for wasting money on university, that’s why I was fooled. Please have some pity.”
While slapping herself, Shen Yan was guilt-tripping Lin Zhiyi.
Lin Zhiyi didn’t respond and pretended to be stunned, watching as Shen Yan slapped herself repeatedly.
Shen Yan dared not stop despite her anger.
Not until her face turned red from the slapping did Lin Zhiyi intervene.
“Stop hitting yourself, it’s too late for anything you say now.”
She lowered her gaze and touched her injured hand.
Shen Yan’s eyes sparkled: “Zhiyi, what happened? Did you hurt your hand so badly you can’t compete?”
Lin Zhiyi gave her a glance and deliberately sighed.
“The doctor said it would be very difficult for my hand to regain its former agility, I might have trouble even participating in the competition.”
As she spoke, she let her hand fall weakly.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Shen Yan’s gloating smirk.
The next second, Shen Yan switched to a look of concern: “Zhiyi, don’t think too much.”
“Mhm,” Lin Zhiyi forced a smile and changed the subject, “I’m a bit tired, I’ll rest for now.”
Shen Yan nodded and left.
Watching her leave, Lin Zhiyi leaned against the pillow and smiled.
Shen Yan would surely go and tattle to Song Wanqiu.
That was exactly what she wanted.
With the competition imminent, she didn’t want to make any more mistakes.
Releasing a smoke grenade at the right moment was the key to delivering the most fatal blow to Song Wanqiu.
…
The weekend.
Lin Zhiyi returned to the Gong Family’s home.
As she entered, two figures alighted from the car beside her:
Madam of the Gong family, Chen Sulan.
Gong Family’s eldest grandson, Gong Yan.
Chen Sulan was dressed in her uniquely simple and elegant style, wearing only an antique jadeite ring on her finger, with no other accessories.
It was said that the ring was a token of her engagement with Mr. Gong, which she never took off once she had put it on.
Alas, that person was no longer here.
Lin Zhiyi stepped forward: “Madam.”
Chen Sulan smiled and nodded: “You always keep your distance, it’s getting impersonal.”
“It’s necessary.”
With that, Gong Yan approached Lin Zhiyi.
“Zhiyi, how’s your hand feeling?”
Lin Zhiyi looked up to see Gong Yan’s handsome and refined face.
He was dressed in a light grey suit, looking quite dignified.
He was one of the few in the Gong Family who treated her kindly.
In her previous life, Gong Yan had seriously asked her a question.
“Zhiyi, would you come with me?”
Unfortunately, she was trapped at that time and did not dare to burden him.
Later, when he and his mother suddenly disappeared, Lin Zhiyi, confined by Gong Chen’s side, only heard some terrifying rumors and then lost all contact.
Seeing that face again, Lin Zhiyi was deeply moved, which turned into a heartfelt smile.
“Big brother. I’m fine.”
Perhaps due to the accumulation of many emotions, this address as ‘big brother’ seemed especially heartfelt.
Gong Yan smiled warmly: “Good to hear.”
Lin Zhiyi felt a bit embarrassed and lowered her eyelids.
However, the atmosphere stiffened the next second as both Gong Yan and Chen Sulan’s expressions turned solemn.
Chen Sulan nodded slightly: “Lao San.”
Gong Yan respectfully said, “Uncle.”
The only one who remained motionless was Lin Zhiyi, until she felt a cold gaze on her back, which was when she reluctantly turned around.
“Uncle.”
Gong Chen did not respond, but the person beside him could not hold back.
Song Wanqiu arrogantly scanned Lin Zhiyi’s injured hand and affectionately greeted Gong Chen.
“Madam, young master.”
The two nodded politely, with no desire for further conversation.
Gong Yan took Lin Zhiyi’s hand and stepped aside: “Uncle, please go ahead.”
Gong Chen glanced at their hands and entered the house with an unreadable expression.
After sensing his gaze, Song Wanqiu intentionally said, “Zhiyi and the young master seem to have a very good relationship.”
Gong Chen swept over her with a chilly gaze, prompting her to shut her mouth immediately.
Entering the dining room.
Liu He came over to exchange pleasantries and then pulled Lin Zhiyi aside.
“Did you know that Zhao Cheng got his comeuppance?”
“What kind of comeuppance?”
“After he was bailed out, he found a woman to spend the night with, and someone took photos. It turns out, that woman has AIDS, and Zhao Cheng has already missed the best time to take the preventative medication.”
Lin Zhiyi was a bit stunned; indeed, it was retribution.
Seeking pleasure in women, to then die because of one.
This was more torturous than jail or killing Zhao Cheng.
But could things really coincide like that?
Before she could ponder further, Old Mr. Gong came in.
This time, to her surprise, Old Mr. Gong did not trouble her, and everything was quite harmonious.
Suddenly, Gong Family relatives looked at Song Wanqiu and asked, “Wanqiu, I hear you’re going to represent the school in a competition, how are your preparations going?”
“I’ve nearly finished my piece,” Song Wanqiu declared confidently.
“As expected of the talent Lao San noticed, different from the rest, not just anyone can compete.”
She said this while casting a glance at Lin Zhiyi.
They had looked down on Lin Zhiyi for more than a day or two; she did not care.
But unexpectedly, Gong Yan wiped his mouth and smiled, “Those qualified to compete must all be very capable, like Zhiyi, who has had a talent for design since she was young. I remember quite a few people wanted to buy the rights to her college work, she has a promising future.”
Hearing this, the faces of Song Wanqiu and the brown-nosers turned quite ugly, yet they dared not say anything.
Lin Zhiyi looked at Gong Yan gratefully; they exchanged a smile.
When she looked away, a chilling gaze fell on her, causing her to shiver involuntarily.
She knew who it was but did not want to deal with it.
After dinner, Lin Zhiyi quickly got up, excused herself to help make tea, and swiftly escaped.
However, as she went to the tea room to look for tea leaves, the door behind her slowly closed.
What do you think?
