Chapter 822: Chapter 822: You are the Hero of Alice and Mom
As the morning light dawned, Catherine Ford opened her eyes.
Alice was still asleep next to her. Catherine got up and began to pack things. By eight o’clock, she sent a message to Benjamin Jones, who replied with a simple “okay.” She breathed a heavy sigh of relief, woke Alice up, wrapped the little girl in a thick down jacket, covered her face, then held Alice’s hand with one hand and carried the luggage with the other as they went downstairs, only to run into Foster Newman searching for them at the doorstep.
Catherine’s heart clenched, but seeing that he was mostly sober and it was broad daylight, she felt less panicked than before. With a cold glance, she picked up Alice intending to walk past Foster, but he grabbed her suitcase in passing.
“Let go,” Catherine turned her head, looking at Foster who seemed disheveled as if he hadn’t slept all night.
“Catherine, let’s talk,” Foster’s tone was much better than last night. Nonetheless, as soon as he spoke, Catherine felt Alice trembling in her arms.
The fear he instilled in mother and daughter had penetrated deep into their bones over these three years.
While Alice could tremble, Catherine could not.
From the moment she fought the divorce lawsuit with Foster, she knew she had to stay firm every day.
“There’s nothing to talk about between us, and I would appreciate if you do not disturb our lives anymore. If it happens again, I will still call the police,” Catherine said, facing him squarely.
Foster’s repressed irritation flared up instantly. “Catherine Ford, don’t get too arrogant. I’m asking you if what Nancy said is true, did you hook up with some rich guy? Is it Lawyer Jones? I never saw you being so capable before. I always knew women were no good, you promiscuous bitch!”
While saying this, Foster raised his fist and swung at Catherine’s face. Having dealt with his unpredictable temper over the years, she was on alert the second he cursed, and when he raised his hand, she kicked the suitcase at him and ran away with Alice in her arms.
Foster doubled over from the impact to his lower body, cursing softly as he started to chase after them.
After a night of snowfall, Catherine walked outside and was greeted by a gust of icy wind that made her shiver, but she didn’t hesitate and clung tightly to Alice as they stepped on the thin layer of snow. Her phone in the bag started ringing, but she couldn’t care less and kept running desperately.
Due to the snowfall last night, there weren’t many cars in the morning. She ran while trying to hail a car, but none stopped. Foster had already caught up to her, grabbed her, and they both fell to the ground with Alice screaming. Mother and daughter fell softly onto the snowy ground, with Catherine instinctively protecting Alice, herself grunting from the impact.
What do you think?
