Chapter 9 Deterrence Over the Entire Room, First Use of the Aura Ability

At the main table of the restaurant, surrounded by the heads of numerous gangs and key figures of Hong Kong Island, no one dared speak in the presence of Lei Luo, who wore a stern expression.

Many of them were people who had survived countless life-or-death situations, having danced with danger more than once. But at this moment, they didn’t dare challenge Lei Luo.

There was something about him now—an invisible, yet heavy, pressure that seemed to press down on them for no reason. It was unnerving, terrifying, and left them powerless, as if they couldn’t breathe, unable to act.

Even those who thought they had a good relationship with Lei Luo, like Xiang Yan and Ah Hao, felt the same way. Tonight, Lei Luo felt different—far more dominant than before.

Behind Lei Luo, the pig oil kid was sweating profusely. His hand had already hovered over the gun on his waist, but to his surprise, no one in the room dared move.

It wasn’t until Lei Luo finished wiping his hands with a handkerchief and casually tossed it aside that the overwhelming tension in the room slowly dissipated.

No one was sure who inhaled first, but shortly after, a wave of people gasping for breath filled the air, as though they had all been holding it in.

Lao, satisfied with the result, smiled. The effect of his “aura” was far better than he had imagined. It worked even in a room full of people, though the duration was shorter than expected. But for him, it was already enough.

He couldn’t call on the British military forces stationed in Hong Kong—he didn’t have the power or capability. But it didn’t matter, as he could use them as a bluff. The people in the room couldn’t tell the difference, and that was all that mattered.

At this moment, Li Tai was pressing his hand against his head, where the blood kept flowing, his vision blurry. His aura of dominance had been shattered, and even his underlings, the smaller gangs, were too intimidated to speak up.

Continuing to argue with Lei Luo here would only lead to disaster.

“Lo Ge, I’ve had too much to drink, and I’m confused.” Li Tai said, suppressing his fear and anger as he forced a smile at Lei Luo. “It was my mistake, and I’ll make it right. I’ll send a gift and apologize when I can. Tonight, I’ll tell my people to pull out of Kowloon.”

But Lao didn’t even glance at him. He merely waved his hand dismissively, as though swatting a fly away. The fact that the leader of the largest gang on Hong Kong Island was being humiliated like this left everyone’s emotions in turmoil.

Most of them had always considered themselves important figures, but tonight, Lei Luo had stripped away the illusion and made it clear: they were just rats in a sewer. What pretensions did they have?

Li Tai’s face alternated between pale and flushed as he gritted his teeth and turned to leave. Once Li Tai had gone, Lao looked around at the others and asked, “Now, is there anyone who has a problem with the way I’ve divided the territories? Feel free to speak up.”

The room fell silent as everyone frantically shook their heads, all indicating that they accepted the arrangement. Lao knew that deep down, they were unhappy and that there would surely be small moves against him later. But this was exactly the outcome he wanted.

Without internal strife, how could he stir things up and cleanse the power structure? How could he reposition himself?

Lao raised his newly filled wine glass and toasted to Ah Hao, Xiang Yan, and the leader of the Heshen gang before leaving the restaurant. As Lao’s figure disappeared outside, the leader of the Yian Association, Xiang Yan, spoke up.

“Do you think Lo Ge has changed?”

Ah Hao and the Heshen leader both fell silent, but Xiang Yan could tell they shared the same astonishment at Lei Luo’s transformation. He wasn’t sure whether it was due to his new position or if his true nature had been revealed.

Xiang Yan thought about it and decided that, when he returned, he would try to find a chance to talk to his niece, Bai Yue. On the other side, after leaving the restaurant, Lao encountered the long-waiting Huo Dong at the corner.

Huo Dong, with his collar turned up and hat on, looked like a passerby waiting on the roadside. Lao signaled to the pig oil kid to stop the car and rolled down the window. Huo Dong handed over a slip of paper and then turned to walk away.

Lao thoughtfully looked at his retreating figure, then unfolded the note.

[It read: Tomorrow at 6 PM, Victoria Harbour, ship meeting.]

Lao smiled upon seeing the note’s contents. Mainland contacts had arrived. Though Lao had long been bound to the motherland, no one knew about it. To truly cooperate with the mainland and work together, it depended on practical collaboration.

He had great respect for those who had faced many challenges with the nation, guiding it through treacherous waters. However, cooperation needed to be based on equality.

As Lao sat in the car, his mind began to calculate what to say and do at the upcoming meeting. Meanwhile, after leaving the restaurant, Li Tai drove straight back to his gang’s headquarters. As soon as he arrived, Blue Steel followed closely behind.

Upon seeing Li Tai’s injuries, Blue Steel was visibly shocked.

“He attacked you? You didn’t fight back?”

Li Tai paused, unsure of how to respond to Blue Steel’s inquiry. How could he admit that he had been intimidated by Lei Luo’s aura? If he said that, his reputation would be in tatters. In the future, he would be the laughingstock of the gang world in Hong Kong Island.

Instead, he preferred to portray himself as a patient man, waiting for the right moment to take his revenge.

“He’s too arrogant,” Li Tai said darkly. “I’m going to make him even more arrogant. That way, he’ll get cocky and make mistakes.”

Li Tai then called for the gang’s doctor and began to recount what happened at the meeting, from the powder den shares to the Kowloon pullout, and the threat of using the British military forces.

Blue Steel listened in stunned silence, his eyes widening with shock. He realized that Lei Luo had completely shifted into the role of a leader. Before, Lei Luo had merely been a planner and figurehead, but tonight, he had shown his true power.

Blue Steel, seeing this, thought that Lei Luo’s ascension to Chief Chinese Inspector had allowed him to completely shed his previous façade. He had become swollen with power.

“Ah Hao is heading to the Golden Triangle? Let’s leave him there.”

“Didn’t some of your people flee to that region when you pulled out of Bay Island?”

Both the Digital Gang and Yian Association originated from the Fruit Party, but they were divided into different factions. When the Fruit Party suffered a major defeat, most fled to Bay Island, while some went to the Delta region.

Blue Steel suggested that Li Tai contact their people in the Delta and get rid of Ah Hao’s loyalists. As for Hong Kong Island, Blue Steel grinned and patted Li Tai on the shoulder.

“I’ve already spoken with Nine Master from the Walled City.”

“On the surface, I’ll have him take charge, but behind his back, we’ll sell him out.”

“Then, you can retreat and let Yian Association come in. We’ll give them a big surprise.”

Blue Steel revealed his plans, and Li Tai’s eyes gleamed with excitement. A plot to take down Lei Luo was quietly set in motion within the Digital Gang’s headquarters. Hong Kong Island was about to face a storm once again.
