Chapter 420: Leaving Westford
John's two sons and a daughter, each achieved remarkable success in their respective fields. However, the third generation of the Walker family consisted of only one person—Julian.
At first, the other families assumed that if Julian’s talent was merely average, the Walker family's influence would gradually decline under his leadership.
At the very least, they believed the Walker family would lose its dominant position as the face of Steel types.
But no one expected that Julian, the lone heir of the Walker family, would become a prodigy after becoming a trainer—a living embodiment of the word "monster."
Since his debut, no trainer had ever defeated him in an official match.
After reaching the rank of Elite, he no longer had any rivals among his peers. Even veteran trainers were repeatedly defeated by him.
Fred: 'I'm sorry for disgracing the older generation of trainers.'
Now, with Julian under the protection of two Champions—John and Duke—any underhanded tricks or shady tactics against him were impossible.
Every influential family knew that as long as Julian didn’t fall unexpectedly, the Walker family's glory would remain as dazzling as ever—if not even greater, thanks to him.
Unable to beat him, many families instead tried to align with him.
Letting the beautiful girls from their clans to hook up with Julian, hoping to tie their family to the Walkers through marriage. This tactic became so common that nearly every family, except those directly opposing the Walkers, joined in on the scheme.
If Julian had been even slightly indulgent in romance, he would have long been drained of all his energy by now.
The Spencer family was a Ghost-type clan, with most of its members specializing in Ghost-type Pokémon.
However, as the eldest grandson of the family, Leon was an Electric-type trainer.
"Electivire, Thunderbolt!"
A blinding surge of electricity erupted from Electivire, striking Metagross in an instant. Sparks danced around Metagross's body, crackling violently.
Electivire was a powerhouse among Electric types. It was said that a single Electivire could generate enough electricity to power an entire skyscraper for a year.
Yet, despite the direct hit, Metagross remained completely unscathed.
Leon’s face showed little excitement—he had expected some damage, but Metagross hadn't even flinched. It had taken the Thunderbolt head-on without using any defensive moves, and still, not a single scratch appeared.
"Electivire, keep using Thunderbolt!" Leon ordered in disbelief.
Electivire launched three consecutive Thunderbolts, yet Metagross stood firm, unmoving, as if nothing had happened.
Metagross: "Keep it up, little bro."
Electivire: (◎_◎;)
"Grandpa... Metagross doesn’t have the Motor Drive ability, right?"
Jessica’s voice was filled with doubt, wondering if her knowledge of Pokémon abilities was somehow flawed.
Charles shook his head with a wry smile. "Even at the same peak pseudo-Elite level, Electivire is simply no match for Metagross."
Although he had known before the battle that Leon was no match for Julian, actually witnessing the overwhelming difference was still hard to swallow.
Who wouldn’t want their grandson to surpass their opponents?
A Pokémon’s level could represent its combat power to some extent, but it wasn’t absolute.
There were always exceptional trainers who could battle above their level.
Julian was one of those trainers—he could fight and defeat opponents a whole stage above him. Leon, too, could battle above his level, but he could only manage to surpass opponents by three to four levels.
That was the difference between them.
"Julian, fight back already! Letting Metagross stand there without moving—are you looking down on me?"
Leon glared at Julian with dissatisfaction, and at the same time ordered his Electivire, "Use Focus Punch!"
Although Electivire was a pure Electric-type Pokémon, its physical build made its Fighting-type moves incredibly powerful as well.
Julian: 'I’m just giving you some face here.'
'So many family members are watching you. If Metagross one-shot Electivire, wouldn’t that be embarrassing for you?'
Leon: 'Oh, thanks a lot. That’s some face I’d rather not have.'
But it was time to end the battle.
"Meteor Mash."
As Electivire’s Focus Punch arrived, Metagross met the attack head-on with its gleaming steel fist.
A loud "bang" echoed through the arena.
The spectators only saw a flash of yellow streak by. The next moment, Electivire was already slammed against the protective barrier.
"Electivire!"
Leon called out, but Electivire was already unconscious, unable to hear him.
Jessica stared at Metagross in disbelief, her mouth slightly agape.
She couldn’t fathom how there could be such an enormous gap between two Pokémon at the same level—especially without a type advantage.
With the battle over, Leon recalled his fainted Electivire and walked over to Julian.
"Next time we meet, let’s have another match," he said with a grin.
There was no trace of bitterness or frustration on his face—only a fiery eagerness to battle again.
Julian nodded lightly.
"Grandpa, I’m heading off. The team still has some things to deal with."
Leon said hurriedly before dashing out.
The main reason he had come home was to have a battle with Julian. Now that his goal was achieved—despite being completely overpowered—he was already looking forward to the next fight.
Leon’s departure was just as swift and boisterous as his arrival.
With his personality, no defeat would ever leave him with a so-called "psychological shadow."
"Good thing it was just us watching, if the younger generation from the clan were here, they would have been completely demoralized by you," Charles chuckled.
He didn’t know if the younger generation would be discouraged or not, but as an old man himself, he certainly felt a blow to his own spirit.
'I feel like I've lived my whole life as a dog.'
Arcanine: 'Hey! Show some respect.'
"Elite Spencer, you’re too kind. Leon becoming an Elite is only a matter of time."
"He’s still far from catching up to you, though."
"That's true."
Julian simply nodded.
For a moment, Charles was stunned into silence, unsure of what to say next.
"Elite Spencer, I’ll be heading out now."
If not for Leon, he would have left much earlier.
"I’ll have Jessica see you off," Charles said.
Witnessing Julian’s monstrous talent firsthand, he naturally wished to bring Julian into the family.
He had heard that Champion Duke’s granddaughter was also trying to get close to Julian. However, she was already a year older than him—a bit of an "older woman."
His own granddaughter, on the other hand, was younger.
After all, most men preferred younger women, right? And at eighteen years old, his granddaughter was at the perfect age.
As they drove away in the Spencer family’s car, Jessica glanced at Julian and asked, "Are you heading back to the hotel?"
"No, just take me to the airport."
"I have to go to Yale Province, and I am going to visit home while I’m at it."
Jessica understood and said, "The Yale Province High School League has already started. If you go, the champion of the individual tournament is sure to pick Imperial University."
"Looks like I’ll have another competitor."
"Use the two months of summer break to raise your Pokémon’s levels. The competition in the special recruitment class is going to be intense."
Since he had personally recruited Jessica, he naturally hoped she would be among the top performers.
He didn’t expect her to be the absolute best, but she should at least rank in the top ten.
"Mm, I’ll do my best."
Jessica nodded seriously.
She had heard plenty of rumors about the fierce competition at Imperial University. In fact, it wasn’t just Imperial—every top-tier university was the same.
No one wanted to be eliminated, which meant they had no choice but to word hard.
