Chapter 397: Fool
Lance was the textbook definition of a spoiled rich kid. However, he was a talented one—otherwise, he wouldn’t have been pre-admitted to Modu Academy.
Every year when Julian visited the Cavendish family, this guy would always try to provoke him—only to get beaten up in return. He was the kind of person who never learned his lesson.
Lance constantly picked fights with Julian because, despite being an outsider, Julian was treated better than him, a direct descendant of the Cavendish family.
Julian’s grandmother, Evelyn, was a peak Elite trainer and one of the pillars of the Cavendish family. Even the family head had to listen to her words.
Naturally, she cared deeply for her grandson. Whenever there was something good, Julian was the first person she thought of.
This, of course, caused dissatisfaction among some younger members of the family, who felt that Julian was taking what should have rightfully been theirs.
Hearing Julian’s blunt remark—especially in front of so many people—Lance was both furious and humiliated. But more importantly, he didn’t dare say much in response.
Even back when Julian wasn’t a trainer, he had already been able to pin Lance to the ground and beat him up.
Now, Julian was recognized as the strongest of Drakoria’s younger generation. His presence alone was something Lance could not hope to match.
So, he turned to his father, hoping he would speak up for him.
However, the family head pretended not to see him. He simply couldn’t afford to offend Julian—after all, the Cavendish family was still relying on the Walker family in many ways.
“Modu Academy is indeed a great university. Lance, you must work hard,” Evelyn said.
Even though the academy had dropped out of the top five last year due to Julian’s performance in the Hundred Schools League—allowing the Second Military Academy to take its place—its strength was undeniable.
One bad ranking didn’t mean people would look down on it.
“I understand, Auntie.”
Lance quickly nodded, looking a little excited. After all, being praised by his great-aunt was rare. Aside from Julian, few in the family ever received such recognition.
“If you ever have any questions, you can ask your Brother Julian,” Evelyn added.
Lance’s face instantly fell.
Ask Julian? He’d rather search the internet instead.
Since he was going to Modu Academy, he was naturally focusing on Dragon-type Pokémon. Although Julian specialized in Steel types, his first Elite-level Pokémon was a Dragon type.
Moreover, Julian’s secondary specialty was also Dragon type.
“Auntie, there’s no need to trouble Brother Julian, I already have a Dragon-type teacher,” Lance replied.
“Your teacher? Hah! How could he possibly compare to my grandson? In my eyes, he’s nothing but a fool,” Evelyn scoffed.
The moment she mentioned Lance’s teacher, her face showed clear disdain. In her expert opinion, that so-called instructor was simply mediocre.
Lance’s reasoning for considering his teacher a good one was a mystery.
Coincidentally, his teacher happened to walk in at that very moment, having come to find Lance—only to overhear someone calling him a fool.
“Mr. Bryon!”
Lance hurriedly greeted him as soon as he saw him enter. Seeing his teacher’s grim expression, he wondered if he had heard what his great-aunt had just said.
“Elder, I may only be at the early Elite level, but I was personally taught by Elite Drake himself. Speaking of me this way is quite disrespectful to him, don’t you think?” Bryon said.
Evelyn sneered at his words. “You attended a few of Victor’s lectures and now consider yourself his disciple? Do you really think he even remembers who you are?”
Victor Drake was the current Dragon-type Elite and also the head of the Drake family.
Bryon’s face turned red, clearly hit where it hurt. “Of course, Teacher Drake remembers me! I—”
“Remembers you, my ass!”
Before he could even finish, Evelyn cut him off—rudely, at that.
John had a fiery temper, but Evelyn’s temper was even worse. Despite her old age, her attitude had not mellowed one bit.
Bryon was left completely dumbfounded by her sudden outburst.
How could an esteemed elder of the Cavendish family speak so crudely?
The Cavendish family head twitched slightly at the corners of his mouth and subtly gestured for Bryon to leave—otherwise, he’d experience firsthand what it meant to be thoroughly insulted.
“What are you staring at? If I say you’re a fool, then you are one.”
“You’re pushing sixty and still stuck at early Elite level. If I were you, I’d just ram my head into a wall already.”
“My dear grandson isn’t even twenty yet, and he’s already reached early Elite stage.”
“You’ve been alive for sixty years, and you’re at the same level as my grandson? That’s just sad.”
The Elite ranking didn’t care about age. Whether one was a newly ascended Elite or had been at the level for decades, they were still considered an Elite-level trainer.
However, true geniuses typically reached the Elite stage by the time they were in their thirties.
John, Evelyn, and Victor had all reached this level around the same age.
Had Evelyn devoted all her energy to training Pokémon, she might have become a pseudo-champion by now.
Even so, as a peak Elite trainer, she had already surpassed the vast majority of trainers.
“Elder, I have to disagree,” Bryon said.
“I am indeed at the early Elite stage, but your grandson’s experience is nothing compared to mine. When it comes to training Dragon-types, I’m definitely more skilled than him.”
He had spent over a decade at this level. Julian was still young—when it came to sheer experience, there was no way he could compare.
“Bullshit! My grandson is better than you in every way,” Evelyn snapped.
“If you don’t believe me, let’s have a battle and find out,” Bryon challenged.
Julian hadn’t expected the argument to turn on him so suddenly.
“What do you think, my dear grandson?” Evelyn asked.
“Well, since Mr. Bryon wants a battle, let’s have one,” Julian said calmly.
He had originally planned to call him a fool too, but after seeing how his grandmother had already humiliated him, he decided against it. The man had been bullied enough—any more, and he might just pass out from anger.
“Fine, let’s have a match,” Bryon declared loudly.
Of course, he had heard of Julian's strength. But like many others, he believed the young trainer’s reputation was exaggerated.
Besides, he had over forty years of extra experience compared to Julian. When it came to battle tactics, there was no way a youngster could outmatch him.
Lance walked up to Bryon and whispered, “Teacher, you’re being too impulsive.”
Bryon snorted. “Are you saying I can’t beat him?”
“Teacher, do you not know that his Dragonite defeated the ace Pokémon of the national-level Rock Gym Leader?”
The ace Pokémon of any national-level Gym Leader was at least at the peak of Elite.
Bryon: 'I actually hadn’t heard about that…'
His expression turned complicated. Had he known, there was no way he would have issued the challenge so recklessly.
Seeing Bryon’s face shift from confidence to hesitation, Lance knew right away that his teacher had no idea about this information. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
“Teacher, you really need to check TikTok more often,” he sighed.
With Julian’s popularity, anything he did would be all over TikTok in an instant.
