Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 898: Finally Awakened

Chapter 898: Finally Awakened

Upon noticing the incoming attack, Loimos rapidly flicked around, striking the blade of wind with his unaugmented fist, dispelling the spell forcefully, doing this forced the undead to actually cease paying full attention to his main target, as currently, his senses were greatly reduced, and instead of encompassing everything far and wide around him, he had to make do with much simpler senses, such only being able to see things by staring directly at them.

Though that blade of wind was welcome, the instant Loimos struck the spell down, he was able to instantly recognise whose mana that was, and although any other living being around would have been useful in his endeavour, her in particular was deemed to help show good results.

So without any delay after destroying the spell, Loimos rushed forward at the caster, bone claws forming at the very tips of his fingers, he slashed forward, the air splitting under the force of his strike, narrowly missing his target, indeed, Helena was already circulating her wind mana throughout her body and channelling the best augmentative spells she knew, and by extend her mana outwardly and seizing some amount of control upon the stray winds surrounding the area, she was able to know instantly whenever the undead began to move.

So in essence, unless the undead could achieve a speed so great that she would not be able to dodge despite knowing instantly that he was on the move, and which direction he was heading in, it would be difficult to get a hold of her.

Of course, Loimos could also increase his speed by circulating his own energies and casting augmentative spells on himself…

As she dodged aside however, Helena was already casting another spell, forming a powerful vortex to extended over the undead like a pillar of turbulent winds, the spell was so powerful, that it tore apart the ground and nearby trees, but the living only frowned as she clearly felt that the target itself had only been knocked and pushed away.

Still, she took that occasion, to fly over to Milo who was struggling to properly recover from having his mind directly targeted, not only that, but the damage was severe, most people would have died instantly from shock if Loimos had done the same thing and nearly split their mind in half.

Even with the golden mana attempting to get in the way, it had been able to do nothing to stop the strike, Helena extended her mana sense over to her husband, having to check what was wrong with him as she did not know what had happened, and quickly found the problem.

“Milo, don’t focus on anything, remember how Miss Rosemary would train us to naturally let our mana flow through our body without having to directly control it? Do that, alright?” her voice seemed to reach him, and immediately, once he stopped putting a strain on his damaged mind, something happened.

Helena had been about to go and try to apply healing using mana, but before she could, a golden radiance began to pour out from the deep laceration left upon Milo’s mind, but it was not mana, it was mind power instead, an energy Milo had definitely never trained to wield, yet, the quality of what was coming out appeared to be simply incredibly, pure and radiant, it soon enveloped his mind completely, turning it into an orb of brilliant gold, and just as that happened, the mind resonated with the soul, the latter of which had already been partly awakened back when Milo had faced the assaults of members of the Soror, and it took erupted into a great golden radiance.

Before Helena could do anything else however, she felt something lunging forth toward the both of them, and hastily erected a barrier, pouring mana into it continuously, which was the right move as the undead’s claws tore through it with frightening ease, had she not kept on adding mana to maintain its integrity and repair it, he would have broken through instantly and slashed her.

But Loimos, currently suspended above ground with his claws slicing through the mana barrier, was swift to react, reeling his other hand back and striking the barrier, the concussive force spreading through its surface instantly, and shattering it like glass, and in the next instant a a vile tendril of black blood extended from beyond his visor, lunging at her like a spear.

Milo had already recuperated by then, and with a burst of gold, slammed into the undead before the foul appendage could reach her.

“Helena! Don’t stay here!” he cried out, using a two simultaneous golden blasts beneath his feet to propel both the corpse and himself away, the two slamming into trees repeatedly, until they arrived into a small clearing, where Loimos managed to anchor himself into the ground, and using the momentum, arched back to slam the living in the soil.

Milo was quick to break free and back off, barely even realising that something had happened to his mind and soul, but the information seemed to automatically trickle from the gold to him, currently, following the successfully awakening of his mind thanks to the undead’s incision, his partly awake soul had also finished its transformation, successfully allowing him to uncover the golden affinity for both mind power and soul energy, but the changes had gone far beyond as his mind and soul had changed completely as a result, and right now, these two changes were causing a domino effect.

The living was experiencing a complete change to his being, just as Thanatok had claimed, it seemed like everything about him bore the affinity for this mysterious golden force, right now, every energy that existed within him were erupting with gold, his very blood and flesh seemed to be changing, and for a brief instant, it looked as though his brown eyes shifted to a bright green, an emerald green of sorts that was different from that of the realm, coming from somewhere else.

But the eye colour was only present for a short moment, and the sole individual to actually witness it was the pure undead.

And with that, Loimos had achieved the first portion of what he had come here to do, Milo had finally bloomed, all that was left now was for the rotten skeleton to kill him.

Slay the fully awakened Milo.

Here laid one of the big gambles he had taken upon, Loimos believed that only the killing of Milo in this state would accomplish what he had set out to do, but Loimos did not truly know the full extent of the gold, nor did he know just what sort of power the living would wield in such a state, so for all intents and purposes, Loimos could not affirm that he could actually kill the living right now.

Especially since other livings were also closing in on the location now, it made no doubt that Helena would not actually leave her husband behind, so she would be here first, and Loimos assessed that she was only a few mere steps away from matching the Volcano Witch, also, Toby was also close already, he was weak, but the various unknown capabilities of his system could prove problematic, it was probably where he had gotten those special arrows from…

The gamble was already in motion however.

Loimos just had to reach and seize victory like when he first defeated the pure living.
