Chapter 60 - 58: What Do You Mean
On the playground, Maya Spencer clenched her small hands into fists, twisting left and right, preparing herself, completely unaware that another pair of eyes were watching her from the principal's office.
Liam Spencer had not seen Maya for a whole week; he had completely misjudged this girl.
He always suspected she was playing hard to get, acting coy for a few days, only to come back and warm up to him, because she had been following him around incessantly before.
But he never expected that this time she was serious, even going so far as to move out of the Spencer Family home.
Even if he didn't tutor her, he knew she had been studying desperately these days; from her warm-up actions, he could see she was using all her strength to drive him out of the Spencer Family.
"BOSS, what are you looking at?"
Elijah Reed came in as Liam was engrossed, reporting on the Owen Clan Group's work as usual.
Liam turned his head to glance at Elijah upon hearing his voice, saying, "Nothing." But immediately after, he looked back towards the playground.
In the week since someone had left, he had been in an awful mood, so much so that he hadn't returned to the Spencer Family home. Every time he thought of her walking coldly past him, he gnawed his teeth in frustration, cursing himself for not stopping her, for not warning her to drop that sour expression; who was she putting that face on for?
"BOSS, the fifth young lady has her make-up exam today." Elijah said excitedly, leaning beside Liam, watching the exam on the playground.
Liam glanced at him from the corner of his eye, ignoring him.
"BOSS, the fifth young lady is so fair and pretty." Elijah couldn't help but marvel, watching Maya twisting on the playground.
Hearing Elijah praise the fifth young lady's looks, Liam turned his head, frowned, and gave him a bizarre look that made Elijah break out in cold sweat.
Seeing Liam's look, Elijah swallowed hard and quickly explained, "BOSS, I didn't mean anything by it, just appreciating, appreciating."
Then, both simultaneously turned back to watch the playground.
On the playground, the students were already starting to test; the final task was the hundred-meter sprint. Elijah's breath almost stopped watching Maya stand on the track.
He had run with Maya before, knew her endurance was okay, but for sprints, she lacked explosiveness. Judging by his assessment, she'd definitely fail.
But as the whistle blew, both saw Maya shoot out like an arrow, running faster than the other girls.
Suddenly, Elijah was stunned, thinking, how did her speed improve in just a few days?
But Liam knew she was desperately trying to drive him out of the Spencer Family!
Just as Maya was about to reach the finish line, she missed a step and suddenly flew out, violently crashing toward the finish line.
"Fifth young lady, fifth young lady!" Elijah, watching Maya's stumble, was alarmed, calling for the fifth young lady, while Liam's face turned pale with fright.
No one expected Maya would fall at the last moment, and so hard.
Behind the floor-to-ceiling window, Liam held his breath, watching the girl lying motionless on the ground, his hands unintentionally clenching into fists, staring intently at the playground.
"BOSS, can I go check on the fifth young lady? She seems to have taken quite a fall." Elijah asked anxiously, hands tightly clasped.
Liam had told Elijah not to get involved with Maya's matters, and besides, it was working hours, so Elijah dared not act rashly.
Listening to Elijah's request, Liam took a deep breath, calmly asked, "She fell, what does it have to do with you?"
"I understand!" Elijah retreated dejectedly after that; Liam still stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the teachers and students surround Maya, seeing her being carried by a male classmate to the infirmary.
Only when Maya's figure completely disappeared from his sight did he return to his desk, but his mood couldn't calm down. The image of Maya falling lingered in his mind.
Disturbed and restless, he got up from his chair, picked up the teacup, walked to the tea room to brew tea, even when pouring water, he was distracted until the cup overflowed with hot water, falling from his hand, hitting the ground with a "bang," finally bringing him back to reality, realizing he got burned.
Seeing the back of his left hand turn red, he angrily cursed, "Damn!"
Next door, Elijah heard Liam's commotion, hurried over, asked, "BOSS, what's wrong?"
"Nothing!"
"BOSS, your hand got burned, it's red! Go to the hospital quickly!"
"Going to the infirmary will suffice."
Liam didn't choose to go to the hospital but went to the school infirmary; even he didn't know why his first instinct was to go there? Could it be because someone was there? How could he admit such a thing! It was merely convenient.
Accompanying Liam to the infirmary, Elijah heard Maya wailing even before entering.
After entering, they saw Maya surrounded by several classmates and nurses, thus not seeing the injuries on her body, but observed her cheek and forehead were injured, covered with serous fluid and blood, the area quite large, appearing painful.
Elijah nearly stopped breathing seeing Maya's facial injuries; his sympathy for her pain rose, thinking, why does the fifth young lady's fate seem unfortunate, always getting hurt? A girl's injured face isn't good.
"Ah... painful, so painful... be gentle... waaah..." Maya hadn't realized anyone had entered the infirmary, still bawling loudly.
Her cries were heart-wrenching, making the medical staff hesitant to attend to her wounds.
Liam listened to her cries, couldn't help swallowing hard, staring directly into her eyes, watching as teardrops, the size of soybeans, fell on her cheeks.
Logically, her injury should make him happy, he should gloat, but why does he feel suffocated, stifled?
Moreover, her cries were overly familiar, that night, she shouted in pain and cried when he pressed her down.
"Principal, why are you here?" After the two stood at the doorway for a while, the medical staff finally noticed them.
"BOSS got burned by hot water." Elijah quickly explained.
"Let me see." The medical staff said while inspecting Liam's injury, commented afterward, "It's fine, not serious, just apply some ointment."
Now Maya noticed two people standing at the door, one being the person she most disliked.
Suddenly, her cries ceased, biting her lip tightly, letting tears fall silently, refusing to make a sound, unwilling to show her weakness to someone.
Seeing her stubbornness, Liam wanted to explode; she could cry in front of so many people, yet guard against him. When he came, she held back from crying, what was her problem?
But that was no reason to be angry; they had no relations, she could do as she wished.
However, as several classmates rose to greet Liam, both he and Elijah noticed Maya's foot injury.
What do you think?
