Chapter 27 - From the Devouring Stars

Chapter 27: From the Devouring Stars

In the blink of an eye, the school day had ended.

After a full day of interaction, Ruofeng and Miichan had already grown familiar with each other. As they left the classroom with Jiu Yukino, they ran into Jomonoki head-on.

Jomonoki looked exhausted as he groaned, “Hoo… School is finally over. After a whole day of torture, I am going to eat a feast. Ruofeng, you’re treating!”

Ruofeng raised an eyebrow. “What are you talking about? It is just school. How was it torture?”

It was unusual to run into a complaining Jomonoki right after class.

Jomonoki huffed irritably. “It’s not the classes themselves—I’ve already learned all this at home. But having to sit through it all over again? That’s a pain. Every single day, the same old lessons. Yesterday was fine, at least it was an outdoor class.”

Ruofeng shook his head, unsure how to respond, and simply walked toward the campus exit.

Just as they stepped outside the school gates, Uchiha Mikoto hesitated before speaking. “Um… Ruofeng, I will head back now. Thank you for the invitation, but my mother told me to return home on time, so…”

She looked slightly embarrassed.

Ruofeng chuckled. “That is alright. If it is Auntie’s arrangement, then go on ahead.”

“Mm…” Mei Qin nodded before turning and walking away.

As she left, Ruofeng’s gaze darkened slightly. “A few of you, follow and protect her.”

At his words, several guards hidden in the shadows silently moved to trail behind Miichan.

Jomonoki watched the scene unfold and let out an exaggerated gasp. “Damn… It is only the second day, and you have already won over another beauty? Man, you’re something else!”

He made no effort to lower his voice, especially as he glanced at Jiu Yukino with a teasing expression.

Jiu Yukino did not refute his words and even appeared a little shy.

Ruofeng shook his head. “Come on, did you not say you wanted to eat? Let’s go.”

Without waiting for a response, he took Jiu Yukino’s small hand and walked ahead.

Jomonoki hurried after them. “Wait for me!”

Night had fallen by the time Ruofeng returned home.

A faint smile played on his lips. “What was that about…?”

He thought back to the moment before they parted ways. Under the cover of night, Jiu Yukino had given him a bold little look—and even pinched his waist, acting as if they were quite close.

Ruofeng chuckled. “Strange, but not that strange.”

His relationship with Jiu Yukino had been set in stone the moment they met. Though they were merely close friends now, their future was already decided. After all, Jiu Yukino was ostracized—not only by her classmates but also by the villagers of Kiba. Few people could truly relate to her, especially among her peers. Ruofeng, however, was an exception. That was why, in just three days, they had grown so close.

Shaking his head, Ruofeng turned his gaze to the night sky. “Time to check the dump. I wonder what kind of trash will appear this time.”

If past experiences were anything to go by, the trash that appeared was always linked to his growth. Whenever he became stronger, the quality of the trash would increase accordingly. Given that his physique had been enhanced threefold yesterday, the garbage this time should not be any worse than last time.

Muttering to himself, Ruofeng disappeared into the night.

Within the silent space, Ruofeng stood before the twisted cave entrance, eyes narrowing slightly.

Every time new trash appeared, it felt like a gamble. Based on his recent improvements, this round of garbage should be on par with the last. But what exactly would show up this time still depended on luck.

Suddenly, the air trembled.

“Whoosh… whoosh…”

“Boom—!”

A roaring sound echoed as countless pieces of trash poured from the distorted space above, crashing into the ground below.

Ruofeng’s eyes narrowed. “So much…!”

This time, the quantity of garbage was several times that of before, piling up like a small mountain.

Scanning the heap, he frowned. “Cars…? Could this be trash from an urban world?”

It was strange. With his body enhanced threefold, he had expected high-quality garbage from an extraordinary realm. Yet, the items before him were mundane.

A sleek automobile caught his eye—about 80% new, yet covered in dust. Among the wreckage, he spotted glass shards, clothing, wooden planks, tiles, plastic, steel bars… All common urban waste.

Ruofeng sighed. “If this were otherworldly garbage, there might be treasures. But if it’s from a modern city, then who knows…”

He approached the car, recognizing it immediately—a limited-edition Lamborghini. Perhaps it had come from Dubai’s waste.

Ruofeng chuckled as he ran his fingers across the dust-covered surface. Even though it was relatively new, it was still discarded.

As he sifted through the trash, his gaze suddenly locked onto something.

A pool of blood.

Ruofeng’s expression darkened. “What…? A corpse?”

Among the garbage lay a torn-apart human body, its limbs mangled as if it had been mauled by a beast. The sight was nauseating.

Ruofeng exhaled sharply. “In all the times I have collected trash, this is the first time I have seen a human corpse.”

His annoyance was evident, but a flicker of excitement flashed through his eyes. “Wait… Could it be…?”

His gaze shifted to a nearby fragment of metal, covered in bloodstains. Inscribed upon it were details about Luo Feng’s death.

Ruofeng’s breath caught. “So, it is that world!”

He immediately recognized it—the Devouring Starry Sky world.

That explained everything.

The abandoned luxury cars, the scattered debris—this was the aftermath of a world ravaged by the RR virus. A world where civilization had collapsed, leaving behind wastelands filled with discarded relics of the past. A Lamborghini among the rubble was nothing unusual. If anything, it would not even be strange to find a helicopter tossed away like garbage.

Ruofeng’s eyes gleamed as he murmured, “The RR virus… It wiped out nearly 30% of Earth’s population within three months. Nearly two billion dead. But for those who survived, their bodies changed—strength, speed, cell activity, and durability all increased dramatically.”

He stared at the pile of refuse, deep in thought.

“I wonder… Did any trace of the RR virus come with this garbage?”

A cold smile touched his lips.
