Mystery Paradise: Wishing Power Demon

Chapter 33 - 33 32 The Frozen Wish

Chapter 33: Chapter 32 The Frozen Wish Chapter 33: Chapter 32 The Frozen Wish The person who had appeared was none other than Chaoyang.

At this moment, he had severed all connections with the players and was facing the ultimate target of the contract alone.

Chaoyang extended his right hand, conjured an ax, and then pressed the blade against the other person’s neck.

Kuiqi, choking on blood, cried out indistinctly, “You can’t kill me! If you kill me… you’ll live in fear from now on! Those people won’t let you go… they’ll flay your skin, and slice your flesh bit by bit…”

Aiming at the right spot, Chaoyang, unmoved, raised his hand.

“Please, I beg you, spare me, I swear I won’t do this kind of thing again! There’s a lot of money in the safe, it’s all yours if you spare my life!”

Chaoyang paused slightly, “There’s only one thing I want.”

“Wh-what is it? Just tell me, as long as I can do it, I’ll get it for you!” Kuiqi, his face a bloody mess, squeezed out a semblance of flattery.

“Your head.”

Having said that, he violently swung down the ax!

“This is the subject of your prayer, though not entirely intact, and the face is mostly burnt, but he is indeed from the Northern Police Station…”

“I know, he is Kuiqi,” Haiya Mira interrupted, her eyes fixed on the severed head, seemingly trying to imprint the scene in her mind, “How could I possibly not recognize him, even turned to ashes, I would remember his face.”

“With this, the contract is considered complete,” Chaoyang let out a slight sigh of relief. He was now in Wangshui Manor, only able to communicate with his client through a virtual projection; hence, the head Haiya saw was not the actual physical object. However, he had not deceived her, as Kuiqi’s head was indeed being held in his hand, and the projection was constructed according to its real appearance.

“Can I… have it?” she asked again.

“Your body… I’m afraid won’t last until I can return,” Chaoyang shook his head slightly. At this moment, the spiritual entity representing Haiya sat at the bedside, while her physical body beneath was barely breathing, with few heartbeats left. It was evident from the state of the spiritual body that she had become a few shades more transparent than an hour ago, indicating that her consciousness was also gradually fading.

Apart from mental communication, Haiya could no longer respond in any way—not even simple actions like opening her eyes, let alone actually taking the head.

“It’s okay, this will do.”

“This?” Chaoyang was slightly taken aback, as both the woman sitting at the bedside and himself standing beside the bed were nothing more than virtual projections of consciousness, and how could there be the concept of exchange? However, even as he thought this, he still passed the head toward her.

Then Chaoyang witnessed an unbelievable scene.

Haiya reached out and took the charred head of Kuiqi.

It was like one 3D movie handing a prop from its film into another!

The woman held the head and slowly lifted it in front of her, tears welling up in her eyes.

“Ata, Wu Qi’er, Kutesi…” she choked out a string of names, “Do you all see this? The murderer who killed you… has finally died! With this, you can rest in peace and return to the embrace of the sea.”

Having said this, Haiya pressed her hands together forcefully, and the head was crushed, turning into black dust that dissipated in mid-air.

After completing this, she turned to look at Chaoyang, showing a smile for the first time, her tear-stained eyes filled with nothing but relief and liberation.

“Thank you. I knew you could fulfill my wish.”

In fact, it had been quite precarious, Chaoyang thought to himself; if not for the idea Detective Zhang had come up with, things might indeed have gone south at the end. Of course, the biggest problem was the lack of information, like what exactly the Champion Warrior was. Another issue was the lack of manpower, how to increase the number of players while limiting the consumption of wishing power was also something he needed to solve.

But he wouldn’t show it on the outside, “Serving customers and ensuring their satisfaction has always been our lofty goal,” Chaoyang said as he took out the contract, “You might not be able to sign your name right now, but as long as you agree in your heart, hair, or a fingerprint can all be seen as symbols of the contract’s completion.”

“I’ve already signed it,” she said with a smile.

It was then that Chaoyang noticed that the virtual contract had already been inscribed with her name at the end.

…Could mental communication also produce tangible effects on each other?

While he was still puzzled, Haiya Mira’s spirit began to glow, numerous white spots of light burst forth from her being and ascended towards the sky. At the same time, a tide of wishing power surged into Chaoyang’s body, providing such comfort that he couldn’t help but close his eyes slightly.

“If I may ask, are you a divinity?”

Haiya posed the question amidst the sparkling light.

“No… I’m just…”

“It would be nice if you were a divinity.” She shook her head slightly, her tone full of regret, “I know it’s disrespectful to the Storm God, but if you were the protector of Larachi Island, maybe no one would have died.”

Chaoyang fell silent.

“By the way, my sister surely has many wishes she wants fulfilled. Please go help her. Her gratitude will surely not disappoint you.” Haiya’s voice grew lighter and weaker, as if it came from a far distance.

“Your sister? What’s her name?” Chaoyang asked.

But there was no response, or perhaps he could no longer hear any.

The light dissipated, and everything returned to calm.

The spirit of Haiya Mira disappeared without a trace, leaving only the quiet body lying on the bed. Her eyes were closed, and there was not a trace of pain on her face, as if she was trapped in eternal slumber.

Dawn was already beginning to break.

The night was gradually retreating from the land.

Chaoyang let out a sigh, tossed aside the head of Kuiqi, and got up to leave.

“Don’t move!”

Suddenly, a loud shout interrupted Chaoyang’s actions.

“I am the commander of the city guard, Shandela Allen! Citizen, I now command you to raise your hands, turn around on the spot, and cooperate with my investigation!”

Chaoyang raised an eyebrow. It was still early morning, did the city guards never sleep?

He did as told, raising his hands and slowly turning around.

He saw a woman in an armored cloak eyeing him warily, her right hand grasping a long sword. At that moment, noisy footsteps came from below as well, indicating that others had come along with her.

“You…” Her brows furrowed at the sight of Chaoyang, “Take off your mask, citizen.”

“What if I say no?”

“Then don’t blame me for being rough.” Her voice grew colder, “I have reasons to suspect you are the culprit behind the burning of the theater and the attack on the police station. I never show mercy to those who trample on the laws and order of Magnificent Castle.”

“Me? Trampling on laws and order?” Chaoyang laughed, “If Magnificent Castle itself is a hell, then I admit I have broken the rules. But there are places like Yeni Temple here… there are many who can’t stand to see the truth covered up and dare to expose secrets – don’t you think it’s a bit unfair to call it hell?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Just making conversation, after all, I am ready.”

Shandela’s expression froze for a moment, then as if realizing something, she abruptly thrust her sword at Chaoyang with lightning-fast speed!

But a black metallic sphere rolled to the ground even faster.

The instant it touched the floor, a blinding flash of white light burst forth with a piercing explosion, engulfing the entire room! The intense light, brighter than the sun itself, made it impossible for anyone to look directly at it!

Shandela only felt a flash before her eyes and a sharp pain in her ears, uncontrollably turning her head away.

The flash came quickly and disappeared just as fast.

Seconds later, the room returned to normal, but Chaoyang’s figure had completely vanished, leaving only a red and black mask pierced by a sword tip on the floor.
