Chapter 32 - 32 31 The Mask of the Grim Reaper

Chapter 32: Chapter 31 The Mask of the Grim Reaper Chapter 32: Chapter 31 The Mask of the Grim Reaper What power is this!?

Tyler was shocked; even the strongest boxer couldn’t send a man flying with one punch. Zhou Zhi’s half of his face was completely caved in, clearly dead. Now Tyler would have to face the opponent alone.

Thinking of this, the British man immediately reacted. He kicked the body towards the other person, while retreating and firing fiercely at the enemy.

The opponent seemed to fear the power of the firearm and didn’t press the attack, but instead turned to flee out the door.

By this point, Tyler knew without a doubt that this person was the ultimate target of the mission—Kuiqi, the Chief of the North City Police.

Upon hearing the gunfire in the courtyard, Kuiqi didn’t flee immediately, probably because he didn’t believe someone in the Inner City District could threaten him. By the time he realized that all his men were killed, it was already too late to run. So he made a bold decision: to ambush the attacker in his own room. It must be said that this move was quite effective, Zhou Zhi was off guard and directly slain, turning an advantageous situation into an even one.

However, the fact that the opponent chose to avoid confrontation was good news for Tyler. Even if Kuiqi’s movements were swift and strange, they couldn’t outpace bullets. As long as he could keep distance between them, Tyler was confident he could regain the upper hand.

Just as Tyler was about to pursue him, Chaoyang suddenly appeared, warning, “Be careful, he’s behind the wall!”

But by then, the British man had already stepped out of the house.

Kuiqi took advantage of the cover provided by the wall, raising a two-handed greatsword to strike down at the peeking Tyler! Thanks to the warning, Tyler quickly withdrew, his hair grazing the blade of the sword.

“Damn it, he actually isn’t planning to run!”

Even the usually composed British man cursed out loud.

He raised his gun and fired repeatedly at the wall. Dust and debris flew from the brick wall, and Kuiqi’s pain could be heard from the other side.

But just then, with a crisp ‘ding’ sound, the gunfire ceased abruptly.

The magazine was empty.

“Damn it, just at this time…”

Before Tyler had time to reload, Kuiqi had already dashed out from behind the wall— even an enemy ignorant of automatic rifles could guess that this brief silence might be the best chance for a counterattack!

The two collided violently and fell heavily to the ground.

Kuiqi grasped Tyler’s right wrist and twisted it forcefully, instantly breaking the bone, rendering him unable to grip the gun.

Seeing the main threat neutralized, Kuiqi finally revealed a fierce expression.

His other hand clamped around Tyler’s throat like iron tongs.

“That’s all you got? You think you can kill me?” Kuiqi’s eyes blazed red as he roared at the British man, “Just two incompetents, and me, a distinguished champion warrior—who gave you the courage!?”

He looked badly injured too, half of his clothes dyed red, and blood still oozing from the gunshot in his leg. A normal person would have lost their fighting ability by now, but he was suppressing the severe pain from the gunshot wound with an astonishing willpower.

“Heh… Heh…”

Veins bulged on Tyler’s face as he could only gasp for air with difficulty.

Seeing this, Kuiqi loosened his grip slightly, “Speak, who sent you here! Tell me the truth, and I might spare your life!”

Honestly, even Kuiqi was somewhat shaken.

Who would have thought that there would be thugs bold enough to attack Wangshui Manor outright? The whole city knew that this was a property of the North City Police, and opposing them was essentially challenging the order of the entire Magnificent Castle. What shocked him more was that these thugs were only two people, and they almost succeeded!

Yes, all because of the weapon he had never seen before.

Kuiqi looked at the strange gun that had fallen to the ground, waves of shock surging in his heart. It didn’t even look like it was made of steel, exhibiting a rare gray-black color. Both barrel and stock seemed very short, quite different from the long guns produced by the armories. And no matter how he looked, he couldn’t locate the air supply device of the gun. If it had a steam core, that would be understandable, but that device needed magic to run, which an incapable wouldn’t be able to use.

Great fortune comes after surviving great danger; perhaps this new weapon could bring him even more power and wealth.

At that moment, Tyler used the only hand he could still move to slowly grip the cloth bag hanging from his chest.

“Sorry, I can’t understand a word you’re saying…”

“What did you say?” Kuiqi growled. “What language is that? Seaway? Ancient language?”

Tyler lifted the corner of his mouth, suddenly lifting both feet and clamping onto the other’s waist, clinging to his opponent like a sloth.

Sensing danger, Kuiqi exerted force with one hand, trying to choke Tyler to death on the spot.

But Tyler’s chest was already shining with a dazzling firelight!

That was the thermite they had exchanged for with the newly acquired points—eight packets’ worth split between two bags, plus a few bullets’ primers and the flint and wheel from a lighter, they had fashioned two crude incendiary bombs. His seemingly harmless grip on the bag had already spun the wheel, striking splendid sparks.

Zhou Zhi wore a similar cloth bag on his body as well.

They hadn’t known what kind of opponent Kuiqi was, but Zhang Zhiyuan was very clear about their advantage: fearlessness towards pain and death, and even in the face of death, the ability to control their bodies with an absolutely rational will. Thus, a weapon for a mutual destruction was undoubtedly the most suitable trump card for them.

The firelight quickly expanded, then burst from the bag, creating a fierce blaze between the two! Smoke billowed out with sparks, the moisture in their clothes evaporated rapidly, followed by the smell of charring flesh… Nearly in the blink of an eye, the intense heat from the aluminum reaction set the parts of their bodies in contact ablaze!

Kuiqi screamed in agony!

That was pain no human could bear.

Yet Tyler didn’t care about that at all, as if it wasn’t his body that was burning. His legs tightly gripped Kuiqi’s waist, and even his left hand, charred to the point of skin splitting and flesh bursting, joined in the grapple.

Even though Kuiqi had already twisted Tyler’s neck, he could never get him to let go!

He rolled around on the ground like a madman, the excruciating pain from the searing flames as if tearing at his nerves. The room’s furnishings were knocked about haphazardly, and after tumbling back and forth for dozens of seconds, Tyler’s burning body was finally flung aside. It writhed for nearly half a minute more before the flames on his body gradually died down.

By this time, Kuiqi was no longer human in appearance, his clothes completely burned away, his skin shriveled and peeling off due to the high heat, revealing the bloody and gruesome fatty tissue beneath. His chest, in particular, due to direct contact with the thermite, had been burned through, creating a large hole through which one could faintly see the ashen grey ribs beneath the charred muscles.

But he was still alive.

Or rather, he was hanging on, not yielding his last breath.

“I will survive… The final victor will be me… There’s no way I’m dying here!”

Kuiqi clenched his teeth and slowly crawled toward the reception room… There, a water tank was always stocked, usually used for making tea for guests. If the pain wasn’t relieved immediately, the ceaseless agony throughout his body would send him into shock.

Crack.

A sound of shattering glass suddenly came from behind him.

That was the noise of someone stepping over broken glass.

“…Who… who is it?”

Kuiqi turned his distraught gaze, only to see a pair of leather boots and the hem of a pitch-black coat entering his field of vision. The person approached slowly, their steps steadfast and unwavering, drawing ever closer to him.

When had this person come in? How could he have been completely unaware with his own perceptive abilities?

For the first time, Kuiqi felt fear.

He struggled to get up, sliding down several times on his own blood, until the person stopped in front of him.

Then, the figure slowly squatted down, bringing their entire form into his line of sight.

Kuiqi saw a strange red and black mask.
