Chapter 108: 108 Is it her?
Chapter 108: 108 Is it her?
Morning in the top-floor office, Yang Jinxia stood in front of a flowerpot, observing a tender sprout that had just emerged from the soil.
“Today, representatives from Fangdong Group headquarters are coming over, hoping to meet with you,” her secretary reported from her side.
“Fangdong Group?”
Yang Jinxia’s expression shifted subtly as she turned her gaze away from the flowerpot and asked, “Is it about signing a contract with Wanhua Company?”
The secretary answered, “Yes.”
Yang Jinxia’s gaze flickered.
Last night, she had opened the USB drive given to her by Sister Lin and looked through Chen Xu’s information. It detailed his workplace, which was indeed Wanhua Company.
At that moment, she had thought to herself how small the world really was.
She had some history with Wanhua Company.
She had never expected that Chen Xu would actually be working there.
With this added connection, she took a greater interest in Wanhua’s affairs and asked, “Who is responsible for the reception at Wanhua?”
“This…” The secretary did not expect her to inquire about such a trivial matter and hesitated for a moment before saying, “I’ll call Mr. Liu and ask.”
Yang Jinxia had merely asked in passing, but seeing that her secretary had already taken out her phone, she let her be and turned back, continuing to observe the newly-grown plant.
She liked the vitality that plants exhibited when they grew.
The secretary stepped aside and made a call in a low voice, and soon came back to report, “They said it’s a deputy director named Chen Xu.”
Yang Jinxia couldn’t help but be stunned, and quickly, a faint smile appeared on her face. This must be fate. Even if she did not seek him out, he would appear before her automatically.
She said, “Have Wen Yan come to find me.”
Soon, Wen Yan came in. She was slightly overweight, with a prominent mole on the left side of her nostril that was still noticeable despite her makeup, and from the condition of her skin, she didn’t seem young.
Upon entering, she asked, “Mr. Yang, you wanted to see me?”
Yang Jinxia gestured with her hand and said, “Come sit.”
After Wen Yan sat down, she asked, “I previously held a position at a company, what was it called, Yu Feng Real Estate, right? Is that position still mine?”
Wen Yan replied, “It’s still yours. They continue to send your salary to your wage card every month, and the five social insurances and the housing fund are still being paid.”
“Hmm.”
Yang Jinxia nodded and said, “My grandmother’s condition has worsened these past few days, and I’ve decided to move to the hospital to be with her. During this time, you need to take good care of the company.”
“I will,” Wen Yan answered, her expression showing some hesitance as she asked, “Madam, she’s not in serious trouble, is she?”
Yang Jinxia reassured, “Don’t worry, she will surely live to be a hundred years old.”
After a while, she changed the subject and mentioned, “Also, about Fangdong Group, we need someone there on a regular basis as well, so next time something like this comes up, I won’t have to make the trip myself.”
Wen Yan sought guidance, “Who do you think we should send?”
“Let Cai Juanjuan go. She’s been with the company for two years now, and she’s quite diligent,” Yang Jinxia decided.
“Alright, I’ll go talk to her right away.”
“That’s settled then. I’m leaving now,” Yang Jinxia said as she stood up.
“Do you need someone to accompany you?”
“No need. Sister Lin is enough,” Yang Jinxia said, and pushed the door open to leave.
Sister Lin was already waiting outside. The two of them took the private elevator straight down to the parking garage.
Yang Jinxia instructed, “Drive the Volvo.”
Both of them got into a white Volvo, and Sister Lin asked, “Where to?”
“We’re going to get our hair done, then buy some clothes.” This time, Yang Jinxia sat in the passenger seat, pulled down the sun visor, and looked at herself in the mirror for a while, seemingly dissatisfied with her current appearance.
“Okay.”
Sister Lin started the car.
“Achoo.”
Chen Xu had just parked the car when his nose suddenly itched, and he sneezed several times in a row. Rubbing his nose, he wondered if he had caught a cold from the rain that morning?
He got out of the car and walked into a suit rental shop.
He, of course, understood the meaning behind Liu Kun giving him this card, but he was very aware that there were no such things as pies falling from the sky. He was about to resign, yet Liu Kun was still offering him such benefits, which seemed abnormal no matter how he looked at it.
Someone like Liu Kun would never give out favors for no reason. When he did so, it meant he wanted to gain a greater benefit from you.
Although he wasn’t sure what he had that Liu Kun might covet, being careful couldn’t hurt.
Moreover, even if Liu Kun truly admired his abilities and wanted to win him over using this method, he could only apologize and decline. Favors owed were the hardest to repay.
He rented a suit and shoes. After changing, he took his old clothes and went to a relatively high-end hair salon to get a new hairstyle.
Upon leaving the hair salon, he noticed it was nearly noon and went to have lunch.
After lunch, he drove toward the airport. Uncertain about potential traffic jams, he decided it was better to go early.
At 2:30 pm, he arrived at the airport and after waiting for more than half an hour, he finally picked up the people.
Two women and a man, all looking very young.
Adhering to the principle of speaking little and doing more, Chen Xu spoke very little along the way, only answering questions and otherwise remaining silent.
During the first half of the trip, there were sporadic conversations, but the latter half was filled with silence.
Chen Xu took them to the hotel they had booked and said, “You all must be tired, so I won’t disturb your rest. Tonight, Mr. Liu has arranged a dinner for you, and I hope you’ll honor us with your presence. If you need anything else, you can call me anytime.”
After exchanging pleasantries, the three guests went upstairs.
Chen Xu escorted them to their rooms before he finally relaxed.
However, just delivering them to the hotel did not mean his task was complete. As a member of the reception staff, he had to be available at all times. He couldn’t just leave. Mr. Liu had also booked a room for him, and he would stay here tonight.
He didn’t return to his room but wandered around the area instead.
He didn’t usually go out shopping, not until he entered the first dream sequence, where he was forced to walk around daily. But at that time, there was no one on the streets. It was a completely different feeling.
Perhaps it was an aftereffect of the two dream sequences, but now seeing the streets bustling with people made him feel particularly comfortable.
“Huh, there’s a werewolf game club over there.”
Not far from the exit, he looked up and saw a sign, his curiosity piqued. He had always played werewolf games online and had never played in person.
He walked over, asked about it, and then left, thinking it was too pricey at a few tens of yuan per hour.
Just as he walked out the door and looked up, he saw a woman getting out of the driver’s side of a white car parked by the roadside. In a fleeting glance, his heart skipped a beat.
Was it her?
How could it be her?
His scalp tingled, blood rushed through his body, and he felt as if he were frozen in place.
Even though she had changed her hairstyle, he recognized her at a glance.
After she got out of the car, she didn’t look this way. She wrapped a scarf around her neck and walked on.
As she was about to leave, a sudden impulse surged in Chen Xu’s heart, and he blurted out, “Xia Jinse.”
What do you think?
