Chapter 107: I trust you 107.

The morning meeting.

Chen Xu sat in his chair, a pen in his hand hovering above the notebook. His eyes were on Secretary Guo on stage, her mouth opening and closing, yet he heard nothing of what she was saying.

Luo Xiyun still hadn’t come to the company.

It had been several days now. Was her illness serious?

Secretary Guo had been vague the last time she spoke of it, and now he was a bit worried. In his dreams, he hadn’t noticed any health issues with her.

But given her strong-willed nature, even if there were problems, she wouldn’t take the initiative to tell him.

Such a thought flashed through his mind until Dai Zixin gave him a tug, alerting him that the meeting was over and everyone had left. He packed up his notebook and stood up.

Dai Zixin said, “What’s been with you these past few days? You’re always so distracted.”

“Forget about it.”

Chen Xu shook his head, rubbed his eyes, and said, “I don’t know what’s going on; my eyelid has been twitching all day.”

“Left eye for fortune, right eye for disaster. Which side is twitching?”

“Both sides.”

Dai Zixin said, “Hmm, you should be careful today, something’s bound to happen. It could be good or bad, or maybe a mix of both.”

Chen Xu smiled and didn’t take it too seriously.

He had just left the meeting room when Secretary Guo came over and said, “Chen Xu, Mr. Liu would like to see you.”

Dai Zixin looked at her with a ‘see, I told you’ expression.

“Sit.”

As Chen Xu entered the office, Liu Kun was already waiting on the sofa and gestured for him to sit down.

“I have some good news.” Liu Kun said with a smile, “We are currently in talks with Fangdong Group, and soon we’ll be able to use their online channels. They’ve already agreed to give us a significant promotional push.”

Chen Xu was surprised to hear this news.

Fangdong Group was the largest domestic B2C e-commerce platform. The company was actually able to finalize a cooperative plan with them, and from Liu Kun’s tone, it wasn’t just any ordinary collaboration.

Did Liu Kun negotiate this himself, or did the head office get involved?

Their company owned ten large shopping malls and wasn’t small by any measure. But compared to the head office, it was nothing.

The head office was a real estate conglomerate, a well-established commercial real estate company that owned several office buildings in the CBD. The buildings housing all ten of their malls were the property of the head office, making it financially robust and powerful.

However, the head office wasn’t listed and had always kept a low profile, with low public awareness. Outside of the province, hardly anyone knew of it. In contrast to a star internet company like Fangdong Group, they were no match.

For Liu Kun to have managed a deal with Fangdong Group, he must have put in a lot of effort. This proved his ambition.

What surprised Chen Xu even more was why he was being told this piece of news.

In the morning’s meeting, Liu Kun hadn’t announced the news, or else his colleagues would not have been so calm.

Liu Kun continued, “However, we must keep this news confidential for now. Due to certain concerns, I cannot be directly involved. Mr. Luo is not here at the company, and you’re the only person I truly trust.”

Chen Xu was skeptical of his words. A man like that couldn’t find a single person he trusted in the company?

But he did understand what Liu Kun meant, “Is there something you want me to do?”

Liu Kun nodded, “Exactly. You’re out and about on business every day; nobody will pay you any mind. This afternoon, representatives from Fangdong Group will visit. I want you to receive them.”

Hearing the significance of the task, Chen Xu wanted to refuse, “But…”

“From now on, you are the Deputy Director of the E-Marketing Department.”

Liu Kun didn’t give him the chance to refuse, producing a card and a set of keys. “There’s a hundred thousand in here, the PIN is six zeros. Use it to buy yourself a good suit, shoes. As for the hotel where Fangdong Group will stay, I’ve already arranged it. Simply pick them up at the airport and take them to the hotel. Drive my car; it’s parked in the underground garage, the plate number is…”

Chen Xu looked at the shiny gold card and the car keys with the Porsche emblem, feeling uneasy, “But I’m about to resign. Isn’t it inappropriate for me to take on such an important task?”

Liu Kun said, “You handle things well; I trust you.”

This was the first time he had been trusted in such a manner by a superior.

Regardless of Liu Kun’s motives, those words were a recognition of him.

Chen Xu was somewhat moved, took the bank card and keys solemnly, and said, “I will take good care of them.”

“Good.”

Liu Kun smiled and said, “Put aside your current tasks for now, go buy your clothes. Be at the airport to pick them up by three o’clock this afternoon.”

After finishing his instructions and going over a few things to be mindful of, he let Chen Xu leave.

Once Chen Xu was gone, Liu Kun poured himself a cup of tea and moved to the window, looking out into the sky, deep in thought.

Click. The door opened from the outside, and in came his secretary.

With a puzzled look, she said, “Brother, hadn’t we already settled the deal with Fangdong Group? This is just a formality; I could have handled the reception. Why involve this Chen Xu? I don’t see anything in him worth your endorsement.”

“Some things, you’ll understand in time,” Liu Kun spoke indifferently, “And at the office, you must call me Mr. Liu; remember that next time.”

With an air of discontent in her eyes, the secretary said, “Got it, Mr. Liu.” Then she turned and left the room.

Bang.

Hearing the moderate closing of the door, Liu Kun shook his head. His secretary was his cousin, a recent graduate he was trying to teach a few things. Her work was satisfactory, but her temperament needed refining.

Ding-a-ling…

The cell phone on the desk rang. It was his sister Liu Yumeng. He picked up, “What’s got you calling me?”

“Brother, have you figured out who that man is?”

“What man?”

“Don’t play dumb. You asked me about Xiyun’s recent affairs last night. Tell me, who is the man that hurt her so deeply?”

Liu Kun replied, “You’re with her every day and you don’t know; how would I have any idea? Actually, Mr. Luo asked me to inquire about it. The doctor said that Xiyun is not sleeping well, and she won’t talk about it. Mr. Luo is worried; that’s why I’m trying to get the information from you.”

“Is it that serious? I need to go to the hospital to see her.”

“Have you returned from your business trip?”

“I’ve nearly finished my tasks. I’ll speak to the manager and head back early. With Xiyun like this, I’m worried.”

“Uh-huh, try to give her some guidance.”

Liu Kun spoke and then hung up the phone. He picked up his teacup, took a sip, and leisurely watched the world outside the window.
