Chapter 22: He doesn't want a divorce
The contract signing appointment between Anthony and Cartel Corporations was held at Ruby restaurant, one of the most famous restaurants in the city. One dish is up to several hundred thousand. The location is chosen by the director of the Cartel. If she let Ella choose one thing for sure, she wouldn't choose a luxury place like this.
Ella didn't want to go at first, but David said she was his secretary, so she had to go with the general manager. Okay, go once to know.
A partner is a fat man, in his fifties. When they arrived, he was already sitting there. Meeting each other can't just look at each other, sign a contract and then leave. David ordered some food and a bottle of wine. About their business, Ella was not interested to hear, sitting quietly in a corner, quietly peeling shrimp to eat. After eating, she licked her lips and wiped her hands with a tissue.
“Miss Ella, have some wine, okay?”
The man handed the glass of wine to Ella, who hesitated to take it, but David quickly snatched the glass from the man's hand. David told Ella. “Your stomach is not good, don't drink alcohol. Cartel director, I drink for her." David tilted his head and took a sip. The Cartel director's face was not happy.
Ella leaned over a streak of soy sauce on the bodice of her skirt. She covered her bag and then asked them to go to the bathroom. Slapping water on the skirt, scrubbing forever but the stain only faded a little. As old as this age, when eating, the food still sticks to it. She felt ashamed of herself.
Coming out of the toilet, Ella was stunned to see David splashing a glass of water in the face of the opposite person. She ran to stop him. She is afraid of murder. But she was worried.
“I would rather break a promise than cooperate with someone like you.” David picked up the contract and tore it into a hundred pieces. Then he grabbed her wrist and pulled her away. Never had she seen him so angry. His grip was so tight, that her wrists were starting to turn red. For some reason, she didn't dare open her mouth to yell at him right now. Seeing him angry like an erupting volcano, she got a little scared.
Perhaps the director of the Cartel said something that upset David so much that he tore up the contract, deciding not to sign it. But what is that? The more she thought about it, the more curious she became. The more curious she is, the more she is forced to have an answer. So, she timidly spoke up. "A moment ago…"
Ella had only said two words when David interrupted. "You don't ask anymore."
He speeds up and runs like crazy on the street. The truck sped out from the side street, and Ella screamed and closed her eyes. Only a shrill squeak was heard. Ella slowly opened her eyes, there was no siren of the ambulance, the surroundings were quiet, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
David put his hands on the steering wheel, squeezing. Blue veins emerged on the back of his hand. His face was still sullen, unchanged. Ella was silent until he drove her back to the office. No one said anything in the current situation. I tiptoed down the stairs, holding his hand. He rubbed the red spot on her left wrist. "Sorry, you," David said, his voice soft, different from before. This was the gentle David she knew.
The fact that David suddenly refused to cooperate with the Cartel made Ella feel uneasy in her heart, determined to investigate to find out what the cause was. She asked David, but he refused to answer. There's only one person left who can help her, and that's Key. As far as she knows, Key and David are extremely close. Although they are the boss and assistant, they have a good friend relationship and share everything.
When Ella asked, Key said coldly. “The cartel is an old fox.”
"Can you say clearer?"
“He said it had to be conditional, damn it.” Key cursed under his breath. "I didn't like that damn old man in the first place." Today Key is upright, and decent, but speaks in a rogue manner, making her very surprised.
"What condition?" Ella raised her eyes and asked.
“He wants… wants you…. something like a one-night stand in a hotel.”
Ella sat by the lakeside. Each wind chased a leaf that fell to the surface of the water. I picked it up, holding the spinning leaf in my hand. Remembering the Cartel director's lustful eyes when he looked at her like a hungry wolf made her whole body shiver in fear. Already in his fifties, he still likes to graze on young grass. Ella got angry and threw a pebble at her feet.
“What are you doing sitting here?” A guy walked up to Ella.
"Nothing." Ella looked up and then lowered her head, timidly asking. "It's for me, isn't it?"
"Idiot, what are you saying?" David patted her head. “I would never give my love in exchange for a meaningless contract. Key said that a few months ago the Cartel had a scandalous business case, in order not to spread it, he silenced the press with a check, but somehow the news was still revealed online. He blames himself. “I was negligent, I should have researched carefully before concluding whether to cooperate or not. Why did I act so carelessly, and I almost got involved with you.”
Through this incident, Ella understood David's sincerity for her.
In this world, there are many words of love, anyone can say love on their lips, but true love is hard to find. Sometimes going on a dusty road to meet the other half of your life.
David entered the bedroom with a listless face. Since canceling his contract with Cartel, his work has become more and more frequent. He's so busy that he doesn't have time for lunch. He was in the meeting room for an hour just now.
He took his clothes from the closet and went to the bathroom. He walked over to the sofa, staring at Ella who was fast asleep on the chair. When he saw her innocent, lovely face, his fatigue vanished. A warm, tender feeling filled his heart.
Looking at Ella's soft, red lips, David wanted to touch them. His gaze fell on her shoulder, her skin as white as snow. Her long and flowing black hair made her face even more beautiful. With two perfectly curled eyelashes, she looks like a princess from a fairy tale.
He looked at her for a long time before carrying her to bed. The scent of her hair made him feel good and comfortable. Her presence in his life is a medicine that makes everything around him beautiful. He couldn't resist her attraction. One thing is for sure, he can't live without her. This worries him. He doesn't know what will happen after three years.
Ella is the first girl to make him know love. Can he live without her by his side? He doesn't want to divorce her.
She always changes her sleeping position. Sometimes she would turn her back to David, other times she would slip into his arms and bury her face in his firm chest.
In her reverie, she listened to his heartbeat, the scent of his body making her fall in love. And her sleep is better.
What do you think?
