Chapter 10: I'm your wife now
Ella to the largest luxury shopping center in the city. She walked around the mall. Her eyes blinked when she saw a price list at a clothing stall. Most of the items here cost more than five hundred dollars. She looked regretfully. She's not a fancy dress girl, so she just buys some cheap clothes. She just wears what she can afford and is comfortable with. Style doesn't matter to her. She did not forget to buy an apple pie for Mr. Harry.
At checkout, Ella had no change. She struggled to find change in her wallet. The people behind her urging her made her even more confused.
Suddenly, a hand landed on the counter at the cashier with a change of bills accompanied by a voice. "I pay for her."
Ella turned her head to look. The one who helps her is Raymond.
Leaving the counter, Ella said in an appreciative voice. "Thank you. It's too embarrassing to let you help me."
"Nothing. We're colleagues after all." Raymond said with a smile on his lips.
"Yes."
A reporter saw them and took a picture of them.
“May I offer you a coffee?” Raymond suggested.
Ella thought to herself. 'He helped me pay, I shouldn't have refused, should I?' Thinking that she nodded in agreement.
Both of them went up to the third floor.
“You go shopping alone? Where's your husband?" Raymond asked when he stirred his coffee.
“He had an important meeting so I went alone,” Ella said after drinking some coffee.
“I see that you and your wife… are not close. What do you love about David? He is a dry and rigid man.”
Ella was startled when she heard Raymond's words. 'Why is he asking like that? Is he suspicious?'
If anyone finds out about her fake marriage to David, she won't complete the mission and she will feel indebted to David for a million dollars. So she smiles. “We love each other very much. He loves and pampers me very much. It's just… he's been busy these past few days, so we're a little bit apart. You're just an outsider, how do you know?"
Raymond is completely unaware of the marriage contract between Ella and David. He just wanted to probe for his purposes.
The reporter from earlier followed Ella and Raymond up to the third floor. He stood in a discreet corner and pointed the camera at them. Of course, they don't know anything.
Raymond offers to drive Ella home, but she refuses. She doesn't want anyone to misunderstand, especially Mrs. Emma. Although this is just a fake marriage, she still wants to fulfill her role as the daughter-in-law of the Anthony family.
The next day, David and Ella came to work. After saying goodbye to David at the turn of the second-floor elevator, Ella headed toward her office. As soon as she opened the door, she felt strange when all eyes were looking at her with hatred and contempt.
Ella asked a colleague at the side of her desk. "What's up?"
She threw Ella a newspaper. On the cover of the newspaper was a picture of Ella and Raymond at the mall. She was taken aback. When were they taken? And yet, the newspaper also wrote that Ella was having an affair outside, there were even rumors that she had an affair with Raymond - David's colleague and close friend.
Before she could answer, she felt her legs run like the wind toward David's office. Almost there, she suddenly stopped.
'Why do I have to explain? I and he are not a real husband and wife, why am I afraid that he will misunderstand?'
Ella thought for a while, knocking on the door or going back to her office.
The door suddenly opened. Ella looked up at the man standing at the door. David looked at the newspaper in her hand, his eyes blank.
From David's expressionless expression, Ella knew he had read the news. She was silent, not knowing what to say.
“You like Raymond?” David asked as he and Ella stood by the balcony.
"Not. We just happened to meet at the mall. He helped me pay because I didn't bring change. Then he asked me to have coffee with him. I thought he helped me so I agreed.” Ella explained clearly.
David breathed a sigh of relief. “I will ask Key to get rid of this rumor. There are a lot of reporters stalking and watching us, so from now on, you should be careful.”
“My life was peaceful before, now…” Ella blurted out.
But David thinks she's blaming herself for marrying him. If I hadn't married him, none of this would have happened.
So David felt guilty. "I'm sorry."
Ella blinked. “Why are you apologizing to me?”
“Because I dragged you into this.”
"I do not mean that. After going through this incident, I know how hard it is for you to live under the supervision of a reporter. I can understand. I should thank you. Because without you, I don't know what my father would be like. You must be tired and annoyed, right? When reporters keep spying on your life?" Ella said affectionately.
David let out a sigh. "I'm used to it. But you are different.”
"Do not say like that. Now that I'm your wife, why don't we face everything together?"
David looked at Ella with a gaze filled with affection.
Return to Anthony's Mansion.
Mrs. Emma stood up when David and Ella entered. She scolded Ella furiously. “Just got married and already flirting outside. Aren't you ashamed?" Mrs. Emma threw the newspaper at Ella.
David spoke up. "Mommy. She and Raymond just happened to meet at the mall. Things are not what you think they are.”
“Without a cause, how can there be an effect? If she's not flirting, how will she meet Raymond?" Mrs. Emma still insisted on accusing Ella. Poor Ella could only bow her head.
“The news is not entirely true. They just wanted to make the story more vivid, so they added a lot of mythical details. I believe Ella.” David confirmed.
“I trust Ella too.” Mr. Harry said. And so is Rika. Everyone sided with Ella. Mrs. Emma was speechless, but inside she was very upset.
David led Ella up to his room. Sophie removed the camera from David's bedroom as requested by Mrs. Emma. It doesn't matter if David and Ella sleep together. The important thing is that she's trying to get Ella out of the house. She is waiting for Maria to return.
What do you think?
