Chapter 1468: A Worthy Deal ( 2 )
Lu Jueyu thought about her husband's words and asked, "Then, what about the price?"
Hearing this, Li Chenmo smiled and replied, "Well, it's impossible for the government to solve this matter alone."
"Since the wealthy families are willing to buy grain at a high price, we will sell it to them at the current black market price. As for what's sold to the commoners, we will keep it at the previous price before the food shortage."
"Husband, you plan to let the wealthy families cover the expenses for the commoners?" Lu Jueyu asked.
Li Chenmo nodded and said, "Cross-subsidies. Those who can pay more should pay more. Those who can't, just pay as much as they can. This way, everyone will have food to eat."
"Won't they complain about the high price?"
"While we charge them a higher price, the grain sold to them will be of higher quality. Coarse grains are cheaper than rice, and commoners usually aren't willing to buy rice. So, we will sell rice to the wealthy and coarse grains to the commoners," Li Chenmo said.
Lu Jueyu thought about this and nodded, "This is a good plan."
Li Chenmo rubbed her head gently and added, "As for the grain given to Pan Chiyan, we will give him 30% rice and 70% coarse grains. That way, he won't be suspicious. We will give him more than 10,000 tons, but it won't be all rice."
Lu Jueyu had no objection and said,"Husband, we will do as you planned."
After walking for forty minutes, they finally found a place that was vast but surrounded by large trees. From the outside, no one would know that a grassland existed there.
Li Chenmo drew a map to give to Houzi later and brought his wife to the warehouses hidden in the mountains.
Beside the previous warehouse he had shown his wife, his subordinates had already prepared eight more. It was more than what he asked for, but it was good to be prepared. The warehouses were several times larger than the one she visited before.
The two of them inspected the warehouses and filled them with supplies. Three of them were filled with rice, totaling 45,000 tons. Another three were filled with coarse grains, totaling around 57,000 tons.
The last three warehouses were filled with various flours, seasonings, sauces, dried vegetables, dried mushrooms, ointments, cosmetics, and skincare products. Since the winter is coming soon, Lu Jueyu also added cotton to the list.
When they returned from the mountains, it was already three o'clock in the afternoon. Since both of their children had gone fishing with Father Li, the house was empty.
The two of them went into Lu Jueyu's space to take a shower and nap. After eating a meal, they left the space and reappeared in their bedroom.
Not long after, they heard the sound of bells ringing. Hearing this, Li Chenmo said, "Wife, I will go see who's coming."
"Okay."
While her husband went to open the gate, Lu Jueyu went to the backyard and filled the water tanks with water from the lake in her space.
When she was done, she mixed some spiritual herb powder into the tanks. That way, she didn't have to worry about feeling uncomfortable during her pregnancy.
In the front yard, Li Chenmo opened the gate and saw Houzi coming with Pan Chiyan. Seeing them, he smiled and invited them in. "Brother Chiyan, Brother Houzi, please come in."
As they walked into the living room, Pan Chiyan asked, "Brother Chenmo, about the matter I asked you—how is it going?"
Seeing how impatient he was, Li Chenmo said, "Brother Chiyan, let's talk about it when we are inside."
Pan Chiyan realized he was being too impatient and nodded. When they entered the living room, Lu Jueyu had already prepared some snacks and a pot of honey water for them.
Li Chenmo looked around but didn't see his wife. Knowing that she was busy with her own things, he gestured for them to take a seat and poured each of them a cup of honey water.
After he sat down, he said, "Brother Chiyan, I visited my friends today, and they agreed to help. But the price can't be lower than the black market. Also, only some of them have surplus rice, the rest can only sell coarse grains."
Hearing this, Pan Chiyan thought for a moment and asked, "Brother Chenmo, how much grain can they sell?"
"The total rice they can sell is around 3,400 tons. As for coarse grains, they can sell a total of 8,210 tons. This is the most I can gather for you," Li Chenmo replied.
The moment he heard this, Pan Chiyan was delighted. He had already prepared himself to be disappointed and return empty-handed. Unexpectedly, Li Chenmo was able to gather even more grain than he had requested.
Seeing that he didn't respond, Li Chenmo asked, "Brother Chiyan, do you only want the rice?"
Hearing this, Pan Chiyan snapped out of his daze. He quickly shook his head and replied, "Brother Chenmo, I want all of it."
Li Chenmo nodded and said, "Brother Chiyan, the price of rice is 3 yuan and 50 cents per kilogram. Coarse grains are 1 yuan and 10 cents per kilogram. That brings the total to 20,931,000 yuan."
The moment he finished speaking, both Pan Chiyan and Houzi drew a sharp breath. They hadn't expected the price to be that high.
Noticing their expressions, Li Chenmo thought for a moment and said, "Brother Chiyan, if the price is too high, how about—"
Before he could finish his sentence, Pan Chiyan interrupted, "Brother Chenmo, I will inform the leaders. The government will prepare the money. Please give me a few days and keep the grains."
At first, Li Chenmo had planned to offer a discount, but since the other party insisted on paying the full amount, he had no reason to refuse. As a businessman, his priority is still profit.
What do you think?
