Chapter 13: Whispers of the Empire
The Imperial Academy’s towering spires gleamed under the artificial glow of the orbital station’s light. Yet beneath its grandeur, political games and betrayals festered like an unseen disease.
Cheno Bo walked through the academy corridors, his mind burning with the revelations of his past. His family’s downfall was no accident—it was engineered. Xian Ren’s father, Grand Admiral Xian Wu, had played a direct role in their destruction. The realization sent a fresh wave of fury through him.
But anger alone wasn’t enough. Power. He needed more power.
The System’s Revelation
[Binding Progress: 27%.]
The system’s mechanical voice echoed in his mind, filling him with a strange comfort. Each retrieved fragment brought him closer to unlocking the full might of the Void Sovereign. But for now, the ship remained in concealment mode—undetectable, healing, and incomplete.
[Warning: Core functions locked. Space travel, combat systems, and advanced weaponry require upgrades.]
Cheno clenched his fists. So close, yet so far. The Sovereign’s full potential was beyond reach for now, but he would gather the resources to bring it back to full strength.
Each missing fragment was hidden away, and only he had the means to track them. However, acquiring them would not be easy. The Empire’s intelligence network was vast, and if they ever got even a hint of what he was after, they would not hesitate to mobilize against him.
Yet, the system had adapted, providing a solution.
[Fragment Recovery Mode Updated: Stealth Extraction Protocol Activated.]
Every piece he found would be instantly teleported to the Void Sovereign’s hidden location, preventing detection. Under the ship’s concealment mode, no one in the universe would be able to trace the fragments or their merger. The enemies of the past would not stop him from reviving the greatest battleship ever built.
Xian Ren’s Growing Influence
In another part of the Academy, Xian Ren stood before a holographic projection of his father.
“Cheno Bo should not have survived this long,” Grand Admiral Xian Wu’s voice was ice-cold. “His very existence is an insult to our family.”
Xian Ren nodded, his expression twisted with arrogance. “I’ve ensured he will never qualify as a captain. His record has been sabotaged. Once he graduates, he’ll have no choice but to become a free soldier.”
The admiral’s smirk was approving. “Good. A free soldier is nothing more than a wandering vagrant, a relic with no power.”
Yet, deep inside, Xian Ren felt uneasy. Cheno Bo had survived too much. There was something more to him—something even his father failed to recognize.
He turned his attention to a new data slate. His father had secured more political connections within the Empire, granting their family greater influence. Soon, even the highest-ranking officials would be forced to acknowledge the Xian lineage as the strongest in the military hierarchy.
“Cheno Bo is not just a relic,” Xian Ren muttered to himself. “He’s a stain that needs to be erased.”
First Steps Toward Revenge
Cheno stood before the Academy’s starship simulator, a necessary step for all aspiring fleet officers. This was where he would prove himself, even if the system was rigged against him.
The scenario: Command a fleet against a superior enemy force.
Xian Ren smirked as he watched from the observation deck. He had ensured that Cheno’s ship systems would suffer ‘technical malfunctions.’
As the simulation began, Cheno quickly realized the sabotage. His weapon systems were disabled, his engines delayed, his communication jammed.
But they had underestimated him.
[System Override Enabled.]
The System surged to life, hacking directly into the Academy’s simulation. Control of the battleship flowed into his mind like instinct. He redirected power, rerouted thrusters, and used enemy attacks against them. Within minutes, the entire enemy fleet was dismantled.
Gasps filled the room as his ship stood victorious.
Xian Ren’s face darkened. This was not over.
Political Tensions and Hidden Powers
Outside the Academy, the Empire’s political landscape was shifting. The ruling elite of the Imperial Senate, the Supreme Council, had begun internal debates on the future of space warfare.
“The frontier wars are intensifying,” High Chancellor Varos muttered, his gaze sharp. “We need more powerful battleships, better commanders.”
Grand Admiral Xian Wu’s voice carried weight in these discussions. “Our current forces are more than enough. What we need is absolute control over the military.”
Varos frowned. “You mean absolute control for yourself.”
The tension between the political and military factions was growing, and somewhere in this chaos, Cheno Bo’s fate was being decided without his knowledge.
What do you think?
