Chapter 404: Lilia and Sylvy
The kneeling Dissonant felt a stifling pressure attempt to crush him to death. Even with his strength surpassing that of powerhouses like the 3 Great Demon Kings, he coughed out black blood, his complexion paling.
"I… I shall not fail you again," he struggled to say, barely able to turn his head up and hold the sphere face's terrifying gaze.
Silence…
"The Void Worms are about to awaken," the sphere finally said after a period of silence. "Gremoir, you must take ownership of that Tower Artifact and acquire what we came here for before they arrive. If you're unable to do this…"
'I'll be left behind…'
Gremoir didn't need to be reminded about what happened when Void Season came around and troops were still on a Cosmic Structure.
Abandonment…
"That's all."
Once again hearing the emotionless voice of the metal sphere, Gremoir bowed at a low angle before vanishing from the infinite expanse of darkness.
The face of the metal sphere also disappeared without a trace, same with the red glow. The rumbling of a living machine was all that remained.
That, and the billions upon billions of red lights occasionally flashing within the darkness.
When they flashed, and if one were looking close enough, they would be able to make out the blackened frames of ships all larger than Earth. Some of these highly intricate ships even had multiple connecting parts, resembling something like mechanical snakes and cyborgs, each of insurmountable sizes.
They pulsated with hunger, ready to devour the next Cosmic Entity…
"Not long now, my children," the metallic sphere's apathetic voice faded out. "Your appetites will soon be satiated."
The flashing red lights brightened for the briefest of instants, exuding an aura of death that suffocated even the darkness…
— At roughly the same time Cassius entered Yggdrasil through the folds between Dimensions, within the Royal Capital of Yggdrasil, Holy Mother City —
"Hmm?"
A stunningly beautiful woman with long black hair and emerald green eyes turned her head in a certain direction. She had a filled-out, motherly figure and was standing on a balcony that overlooked the fantastical capital. The slight breeze at this height blew her flowy dress around, accentuating the complicated expression she was making.
"Mother?"
The concerned voice of a small, cute girl rang out, snapping the black-haired woman out of her stupor.
"Sylvy," the woman's eyes softened as she stared at the big, round eyes of the little girl lightly pinching the hem of her dress. "Don't worry, there's nothing wrong. I was just thinking about how pretty it looked outside today."
"Mhmm…" Sylvy gave an unconvincing nod, obviously still worried.
Realizing this, the black-haired woman smiled warmly. "Say, how about we go and meet some Angels today? You've been begging me for quite some time to see one in person, haven't you, my dear?"
Sylvy's sad eyes immediately brightened as she hugged her mother's thick thigh. "Can we really, Mother??"
The black-haired woman giggled. "Naturally," she said as she took hold of her hand. "When have I ever lied to you?"
"Yay! You're the best mother in the whole wide world!"
Rather than feel joy at these words, the black-haired woman's smooth skin turning blue gave away her immense sadness. She hid her daughter in her dress so she wouldn't see it.
"Let's get going then," she said with a fake smile. "We have a lot to do today after all, what with the Tournament about to commence."
"Mhmkay, Mother!"
The mother and daughter pair then left the room connected to the balcony. They also left the manor that they were staying in as well, totally unaware of the shadowy figures lurking around the area.
The slitted eyes of the shadowy figures were all focused on Sylvy and her mother. Once they left the perimeter, half of them trailed behind the mother-daughter pair, whereas the other half blurred in the opposite direction.
They flew toward the largest and most luxurious palace in the Trunk of Yggdrasil—the home of the Queen of Yggdrasil as well as various other royals from a wide number of generations.
FWIP!
Appearing within a dazzling room of gold and jewels, the shadowy figures knelt before a beautiful green-haired woman who was also gazing out at the picturesque scenery. However, her demeanor was more solemn and noble than that of the black-haired mother. Furthermore, there was a more ruthless air surrounding her.
"What is my older sister up to?" she coldly asked before the shadowy figures could speak up.
"Queen Ayra, Lilia Eldrine is leaving her manor with the bastard child, and is going to meet the Angels."
"Angels?" Queen Ayra went silent. "It must be Archangel Mikaela. They always were so annoyingly close with one another."
"Do you have any orders for us, my Queen?"
Queen Ayra turned around, letting her fiercely perfect face come into view. "Tell the others to stop tailing her. Mikaela is not someone easy to fool, and that sister of mine wouldn't dare make any moves or make an escape attempt. The Ancestors are always watching, so even without you bunch keeping an eye on her, nothing will change."
"Understood, my Queen!" the shadowy figures responded in unison before departing from the room without leaving a trace.
After they were gone, Queen Ayra returned to staring at the limitlessly large and glorious city of nature and golden structures below.
"What exactly are you up to, Elder Sister?"
Meanwhile, billions of miles away, after traveling through a few spatial transportation stations, Sylvy and her mother arrived at the overhanging Branch where Archangel Mikaela's Faction was staying.
Thousands of Angels could be seen flying around and meandering about, with a few in particular brimming with fighting spirit. These were the talented youths of Mikaela's section of the Heavenly Kingdom who would be participating in the Divine Tournament of Yggdrasil. Every single one of them was at least of the Peak Transcendent Rank, with numerous at the Half-step Godlike Rank.
Their auras, however, extended far beyond their visible cultivation, for all of them could fight above the Transcendent Rank.
The best of the best!
What do you think?
