At the moment before returning to the present, Naruto casually lifted his hand and pulled Nao and Sara into the seal space. In the next moment, he opened his eyes to find himself in Sakura’s arms.
In that instant, Naruto broke out in a cold sweat and thought to himself, ‘It’s really a close call.’
If Sakura had discovered the existence of the two women, it would’ve been impossible to explain, no matter what. He wasn’t keen on giving Sakura any leverage over him, and the fewer people who knew about this, the better.
Inside the seal space, Yugito was slightly surprised to see there two more people in the cell next door. On the surface, her expression remained neutral, but her disgust for Naruto grew even stronger.
‘That guy is really a scumbag! In order to satisfy his own selfish desires…’
Sakura reached out and patted the sand off Naruto’s clothes, her face full of concern. She walked around him, inspecting him, and asked, "Did everything go smoothly?"
"Uh, yeah, it went pretty well." Naruto thought about it and made sure that he had memorized all the words on the classified information, then he nodded and said, "There were a few hiccups, but nothing too dangerous."
"Mm-hmm." Sakura didn’t really feel much had happened because, from the moment Naruto activated the Ryumyaku to the moment he woke up, only a minute had passed, and nothing seemed to have changed.
That was only because Naruto was quick enough to put the two women into the seal space for temporary placement. If the three of them had suddenly been lying there together, Sakura wouldn’t have been so calm.
Now that the mission is completed, there is no need to stay in the desert.
Naruto and Sakura quickly made plans to leave the desert and began retracing their steps. They set up camp at night, and of course, Naruto couldn't resist ‘reading’ late into the night.
Something about ‘Autumn Maple Nights’ and ‘Black Stockings in February’… whatever.
After traveling non-stop for two days and nights, Naruto remained full of energy, but Sakura was beginning to show signs of fatigue. In the end, it took them five days to return to Konoha, where Naruto went to hand in the mission.
Sakura went home to rest. Since she had been missing for so many days, she would likely face a scolding.
Shikamaru’s wedding had already passed, and Choji’s wedding was just around the corner. Upon hearing that Naruto had returned, Choji had even gone to the trouble of sending him an overly formal invitation.
Naruto looked down at the very flashy wedding invitation, then glanced at Choji, and was suddenly speechless.
I’ll come, no need to go through the trouble of making me something this… eye-popping."
"How did you know it was custom-made?" Choji’s eyes widened, blinking as though he had just discovered one of the great mysteries of the Shinobi World.
Naruto looked down at the invitation and found the combination of red and green unbearable.
"Who else did you send such an invitation to?"
"Shikamaru, Ino, Neji, Hinata, and…" Choji began counting on his chubby fingers before looking up and asking, "What’s wrong with the invitations? I made them myself. Is there a problem?"
"No, they’re fine. Just… maybe don’t make them next time." Naruto patted his shoulder and said earnestly.
After accepting the invitation, Naruto didn’t linger in the village. He quickly found an excuse and left, heading towards Tanzaku Town. He hurried along and managed to buy a small house on the other side of the town.
It was far from where he and Tayuya had lived before, practically on the opposite side. Although Tayuya wouldn’t be returning anytime soon, he wanted to be prepared just in case.
In short, Naruto felt like he needed to start using his brain more now.
Nao held Sara's hand as they stood in front of the small building. She glanced at Naruto beside her and blinked, asking, "Where are we? Is this Konoha?"
"No, this is Tanzaku Town." He explained.
"Oh." Sara looked back at the bustling street and could faintly hear the noise of the crowd, "Tanzaku Town has become so prosperous. It used to just be a few supply stations."
"This is a market town now, and it's some distance from Konoha." Naruto pointed at the two-story wooden building, "You'll stay here for a while to get used to things."
"I will come visit regularly. Soon, we'll probably have communication devices, so I’ll bring you one at that time. That way, it will be convenient for you to contact me even when I am not around."
"As for Konoha, things are a bit complicated there right now, so it's best not to go for the time being."
"Complicated?" Nao gave him a long, deep look, "Oh~ I see. Alright then, I’ll trust your judgment."
Naruto scratched his head, feeling a bit guilty. He chuckled awkwardly without saying more.
Luckily, Nao didn’t push the issue, giving him a sidelong glance before leading Sara inside. Naruto followed behind, hearing her mutter as they went upstairs.
"Hmph, I'm not going to compete with the younger generation."
In some ways, Nao did qualify as an elder, but the more he thought about it, the weirder it seemed. After a while, he gave up on trying to figure it out.
"You know how to use the bathroom, right? It's not too different. I can teach you how to use it." Naruto reached out, trying to help, but Nao dodged him directly.
Nao rolled her eyes at him and said, "Wait a minute, let me settle Sarah first."
"Alright." Naruto shrugged and waited.
Sara still seemed dazed, but she had started trusting Nao, no longer resisting as she let her lead her. Occasionally, she would respond with a simple word or two.
After all, she was not really turning into idiot, she’s just overwhelmed by the shock of everything that had happened, and unable to process it. Now that the environment around her has changed, it is also a good thing for Sara.
"Raise your arm, yes, like that." Nao said, preparing to change Sara’s clothes. Just as she lifted the shirt, something crossed her mind. She looked back but found that Naruto had already slipped out of the room without her noticing.
She was stunned for a moment, then a soft smile appeared on her face.
"Your other hand, mm-hmm." Nao finished changing Sara's clothes and quickly walked to the door. She opened a crack with a click, and stuck her head out.
"Um... how does the bathroom work?"
"It's very simple, you just..." Naruto started explaining, but then noticed the playful glint in Nao's eyes. He raised an eyebrow, and immediately understood what was going on.
‘Oh~ the bathroom, huh?’
"This here is the showerhead, got it?"
"Mm-hmm~"
"And this is, uh, a bathtub."
"Oh."
"And this is…"
It took Nao two full hours to remember how to use everything in the bathroom. She came out with a flushed face and didn't dare to look Naruto in the eye.
Her talent weren't the best, and her memory had been deteriorating. Despite going over it multiple times, she still couldn’t focus enough to learn it properly.
"I…"
"No need to explain, it's just a small matter." Naruto waved it off, "Everything you need is downstairs in the living room. Later, we can go for a walk around the town. It hasn’t changed much in the last twenty years."
"Okay." Nao replied, her face still red.
After staying in Tanzaku Town for two days, Naruto returned to Konoha.
Choji's wedding was fast approaching, and with some time to spare, Naruto slept an entire day at home before waking up fully rested to attend the wedding.
With that, everything was temporarily settled. He had even figured out a solution for Sakura’s situation.
Now, the biggest issue he needed to deal with was Danzo and Root.
What do you think?
