Naruto felt even more embarrassed, and he hesitantly mentioned a name.
"Yamanaka Inoichi?" Nao was dumbfounded, "His daughter? Ah... his daughter, huh. It’s hard to imagine what Yamanaka Inoichi’s daughter would look like."
"The Hyuga Clan…"
"Haruno… Oh, never heard of that one."
"Anyone else?" Nao’s expression turned complicated as she looked at Naruto’s innocent face, not sure whether she should be jealous or not.
‘This guy… I knew he was troublesome, but I didn’t expect his net to be cast so wide.’
"That's all." Naruto naturally wouldn't say any more. It wasn’t that there weren’t more, but rather that the fewer people who knew, the better.
It was best if they didn’t know about each other. After all, they were all far apart and unlikely to meet. He wasn’t about to pull a Wei Xiaobao and gather all the women he was involved with onto some island.
Only when those women are completely out of their minds can they live in harmony. This wasn’t the time for such unrealistic fantasies. Three women could stir up enough drama, so imagine what seven or eight would do. It would be like the Shinobi World version of Empresses in the Palace.
If it ever reached that point, it would just be pointless. Obviously, keeping them apart would eliminate many headaches, so why forcing them together for the sake of a game or some plan?
Everyone said forced relationships were never sweet, let alone ‘pure love’ with so many people. In principle, as long as they could all live well separately, that was enough. They can't just give up everything for Naruto and become soulless shells.
Koyuki remained in the Land of Snow, where she belonged.
Ino would always be proud, as that was the real Ino. If one day Ino gave up her principles and accepted sharing Naruto with other girls, that would be a tragedy.
Just like how Hinata pretended not to know about Ino, Ino also pretended not to know about Naruto and Hinata’s relationship. After all, they were unlikely to meet. Even if Ino and Hinata crossed paths, Naruto didn’t know how to handle it. But he certainly couldn’t let them realize there were others besides themselves.
…
After another day of rest, Naruto took Nao out of Konoha.
The two of them traveled swiftly, moving from the forests of the Land of Fire to the deserts of the Land of Wind.
As they approached Roran, Nao suddenly grabbed Naruto in the midst of the whirling sands, "What's wrong?"
"The people I know… will they all become just a part of history?" Nao asked, her expression tinged with sadness. After a pause, she continued, "Will they all die in the war?"
"Probably." Naruto didn't lie to her and spoke honestly, "Family, friends, everything you have in this time period will be buried in the river of time, as if you never existed."
"It's not too late for you to regret now, so do you still want to continue?"
Nao didn't say anything and stood there in silence for a while.
"Yes."
Hearing the affirmative answer, Naruto didn't say more and continued on the journey toward Roran with Nao. Even though they hurried, they were still too late.
Roran had already been reduced to nothing under the iron hoof of war, and all the once glorious towers had completely collapsed and fallen. Even Naruto was stunned in place, unable to recover for a long time.
‘After two months, a small country was destroyed just like that?’
"This place... seems to have just gone through a war?" Nao also shivered slightly. This sight of the land being trampled by the iron hoofs of war made her scalp tingle.
Buildings were destroyed, and abandoned corpses could be seen everywhere on both sides of the road. The air reeked of a foul stench, and the wind constantly swept over the desolation without end.
"Remove the word 'seems’, this is war." Naruto exhaled deeply and pulled Nao’s hand as they headed in another direction, "Don't say anything, just follow me."
“Mmm."
"We're going to find the Roran’s royal family now. Only they know where the other entrance to the Ryumyaku is." Naruto explained as they walked.
"Got it." Nao didn't understand anything, so she just nodded along.
The situation was far worse than Naruto had imagined. The people of Roran were either dead or injured, and the Queen of Roran had already died in the war trying to protect her people.
The Princess, Sara, had fled, and her whereabouts were now unknown.
Naruto didn't believe that she was truly missing, ‘With Sara's personality, she would never leave Roran. She must be hiding somewhere, as it's hard to leave one's homeland.’
"What should we do now?" Nao, wearing a white cloak to shield against the sand, looked at Naruto with dry, cracked lips, her expression somewhat anxious.
"Find Princess Sara, and we'll find the Ryumyaku." Naruto remained determined. He knew that the only solution now was to find Sara.
It took another three days to find Sara, who looked decadent, among the Roran refugees. She was exuding a sense of desolation, her eyes vacant, her appearance haggard, and her hair tangled.
From a princess two months ago to a homeless beggar now, people won’t be able to recognize her unless they look carefully.
The iron hoof of war was so fierce and devastating that it was simply not something a small country like Roran could resist. It took Sunagakure just half a day to flatten Roran and pushed the battlefield to the borders of the Land of Grass.
In their eyes, Roran probably didn't even matter at all, not even worthy of being called an enemy.
Sara had become a shell of her former self, dragged into the sunlight, looking up at the two people standing before her with empty eyes, showing no reaction.
"It's been a while, Princess Sara," Naruto said.
"Mm." Sara responded with little emotion. Wrapped in tattered clothes, she huddled in a corner with a dull look in her eyes.
"What's wrong with her?" Nao stepped forward and felt a little pity for this dirty girl.
"She's likely traumatized. She has always grown up under the protection of the Queen and has never experienced any hardships." Naruto said in a low voice.
"Now, suddenly her country is destroyed, her home is ruined, the Queen is dead, and her people are either dead or wounded. It’s impossible for this country to exist anymore."
"Should we help her?"
"How can we help?"
"This..." Nao was also in a dilemma. After thinking for a while, she suddenly looked up at Naruto and said, "Hey, when we go to the future, can you take one more person with you?"
"Huh??"
What do you think?
