Chapter 185: They're What?
Lillian faced the blonde woman with a nervous expression, "Uh... I'm Lillian." She held out her hand for a handshake.
The woman glanced down at the hand and shook it, "Beatrice. But we already know each other, you know." She smiled, wryly.
Lillian tilted her head, "Do... We...?"
Beatrice's face twitched, "Forgetting the person, who helped you in your first Trial is not good, Lilly, you know."
"Eh?"
Lillian, surprised at her words, squinted her eyes at her. She looked through her memory. Did the past her actually know the Head of the Committee before?
The woman knows her name, so they must've... But for some reason, she couldn't find any traces of the woman in her memories.
Just as she was about to say something about it, like a spark, something popped into her head.
She widened her eyes, "OH!" She grasped the woman's hand with both of hers, shaking it eccentrically, "It's been so long! I really did almost forget you, Beat!"
Beatrice tilted her head, her left bottom eyelid twitching at the nickname, "And it seems you also remembered that nickname, as well... Not your best work, you know."
Lillian scratched the back of her head, sheepishly, "Hehe... So, how have you been? I knew you were the Student Council Head—"
Beatrice interrupted her, "Is it that you knew me as the Student Council Head, or as the person, you knew personally?"
Lillian turned her face away, guilty, "Eh... It's been a while. That's all I can say."
Beatrice sighed, shaking her head, "Memory is never your strong point, you know."
"Is there a reason you keep putting 'you know' at the end of your sentence?" Lillian tilted her head, asking the blonde woman, whose face became wrinkled at her words.
"Forgetting my Flaw as well? How cruel you are, you know."
"Eh? That's your flaw? Ah, right! Didn't my family help you with that?"
Beatrice nodded, "Mhm. Minor enhancement, but still, it gave me an irritable Flaw. Even though... It only sparks up like half the time."
Lillian watched as Beatrice's lips shook before hearing her whisper:
"You know..."
"Are you sure it's... Half the time?"
"Well, it should be. Or I could be getting unlucky." She sighed.
"Strange..." Lillian scratched her cheek, before glancing towards the door, "Anyway, It was nice chatting with you! I should get going. I got someone waiting for me."
"Oh? Then I'll come with you. That's fine, right?"
"Well... Maybe...?" Lillian said with uncertainty, causing the Committee's Head to raise an eyebrow. She didn't ask, but instead followed her out.
"So, how do you think about the upcoming tournament? I believe it's your class that's mainly going against theirs, you know."
Lillian nodded, "Yeah... But..." She placed her hands behind her head, "I don't really have much motivation to give it my all, really."
"Seriously? You were always someone to brag, you know."
"I... Guess? But the Academy isn't really giving anything to our class, if we win."
"You seem quite confident. Could it be you have gotten stronger?" Beatrice blinked at her, "I remember you can barely control your mana well to form a ball of water."
"That's... Yeah, I remember that as well... But hey! I got first place in that Entrance Exam."
"I've heard. And watched as well. I must say, it was quite entertaining to watch, you know."
"Heh, glad I was entertaining to watch."
They went on to talk for a bit as they walked through the corridors, they eventually reached the Paragon classroom.
Lillian slowly slid open the door, peeking inside and finding everyone to be gone. She opened it entirely and took one last look inside. This time, she was able to see someone.
Marionette was sat at the back, leaning the side of her face in her palm and resting her elbow on the table. She stared out the window, bored, before turning towards the door.
She smiled at the sight of Lillian and straightened her back.
The Assassin then raised an eyebrow at the glimpse of a blonde-haired woman behind her.
Lillian watched as Marionette walked down and greeted her:
"You took your time, Lillian. I take it that the Second Prince isn't with you?"
"Nah, he isn't. I just had to catch up with a friend, that's all." Lillian let out a chuckle, gesturing to Beatrice, who smiled at the Roselle.
"A... Friend?" Marionette raised an eyebrow, staring at the blonde-haired woman, and watched as she pushed out her hand.
"I'm Beatrice Lin Contrast. I'm the—"
"You're the current Head of the Student Council Committee. Am I correct?" Marionette raised her hand, wrapping a thin membrane of darkness around her hand, creating a sort of black glove.
She clutched the woman's hand and shook it. She noticed Beatrice's confusion at what she did and responded with:
"I dislike direct physical contact when it comes with my hands."
"I see. Good to know." The blonde-haired woman nodded, then glanced at Lillian, "I take it you two are great friends."
Lillian nodded, but her voice strained a bit, "Something like that..."
Marionette answered as well, albeit briefly, her voice firm, "We are."
Beatrice pulled back from the handshake and nodded at their words, "Is that so? Well, I'm glad." She then felt something vibrate in her pocket, realising it was her phone.
Pulling it out and checking it, she realised she had to get going.
"I would love to stay and chat with you, Lilly, but I have to get going now."
"Oh, busy, huh?"
"Definitely... Are you planning on joining the Committee?"
"I plan to."
Beatrice smiled, "Well how about this, since you're low on motivation. If you do well in the tournament, I'll make sure to get you a place on the Committee. How about it?" She asked in a persuading tone.
Lillian held her chin, nodding strongly. "That's definitely a good motivation! Alright, I'll work harder, then!"
The Student Head nodded, "I hope you do. Well, then, I hope you two have a good day." She left, after giving them a wave.
After she left, Marionette turned to Lillian with a curious expression, "Something like that...?" She repeated the Rabbit's words.
What do you think?
