I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 855 855: Attract Attention

High above the treetops, Eccar hovered with his wings spread wide, the wind rushing past him as he strained his hearing. In the distance he could make out the sharp clash of steel, Magic bursts, and sounds of battle. Its coming from the direction the party had gone.

He narrowed his eyes, the slitted pupils of his Dragon gaze cutting through the mist. He focused on the commotion and when his enhanced vision finally pierced through the forest canopy and layers of fog, he spotted them.

Jan's party was now fighting againts another human party. They looks outnumbered but standing strong.

Eccar let out a quiet sigh of relief.

"I think they can handle themselves. At least for now. That was enough. I have to let them deal with that for now. They're strong. They'll be alright," he thought.

Without hesitation, he turned away and shot through the sky, angling himself toward the nearest rift. It pulsed in the earth like an open wound, leaking corruption and grey horrors into the world.

Eccar didn't slow down.

He slammed into the ground with thunderous force, cracking the soil beneath him. At the very moment of impact he drove his palm into the ground and unleashed a violent surge of Magic.

Jagged spears of earth erupted outward in every direction. Dozens of the spears piercing through a ten-meter radius from the forest floor. The grey creatures closest to him were impaled, some shattered to pieces, others pinned mid-screech.

But there were too many of them already now.

More of the grey monsters swarmed from the rift's edge. Their bodies twitching and shuddering with unnatural energy.

Eccar launched forward. Magic flickering on his arms as he tore through the remaining creatures. In seconds, twenty of them lay dead around him.

He stepped toward the rift, placed his hand on the swirling void, and focused.

His Magic surged through the unstable fracture. Slowly, the rift groaned and began to shrink like a dying eye.

Then it vanished and sealed shut.

Eccar exhaled. "One more down. Only a few hundred left in this godsdamned forest."

He could only hope Erend arrived soon.

Without rest, he fly to the skies once again. His eyes scanning the terrain for the next rift.

"Should I turned into Dragon form?" he wondered. "Could I close them all at once if I do that?"

But the answer came quickly. He clicked his tongue.

"Probably not. I need to focus to close each one carefully. If I use Dragon power recklessly and interact with whatever's on the other side of these rifts who knows what will happen…"

The risk was too great.

For now, he would stay like this. His hybrid form gave him speed, precision, and control. One rift at a time but he will do it faster.

He spotted another rift. He dove and landed hard.

This time the forest trembled under the force. The earth exploded outward in vicious stone spears but wider this time, covering a full twenty meters.

Dozens of grey creatures were skewered, their blood soaking into the bark and moss. Screeches were silenced in an instant.

Eccar didn't even pause to look.

He moved to the rift, placed his hand on i and sealed it.

He repeated the process again and again.

Back at the battlefield, Selene still hovered in the air with her gloves crackling with Magic energy. She become the harder target to hit while in the air.

From above, she rained down precise lightning bolts, each one striking with incredible accuracy. Every enemy caught in her line of sight was paralyzed giving her party the advantage.

Though outnumbered, this party was far from weak.

Mark now even fought two swordsmen at once. His movements were fluid and unshaken as if showing that he is someone who'd stood his ground through countless battles. He lived up to the rumors as one of the strongest in the Kingdom of Astoria.

Jan loosed arrows rapidly. He moved like wind, shifting seamlessly between ranged shots and close combat where his daggers flashed like fangs.

Near the edge of the field, Annette stood beneath Selene's cover. Though separated from the melee she wasn't idle. Her healing Magic flowed constantly, weaving through the battlefield like a calming thread to patch wounds, stabilizing pain, and keeping her allies on their feet.

Even from a distance, the glow of her spellwork radiated calm amidst the chaos.

Selene spotted an incoming fireball aimed at Annette and with a flick of her hand, lightning split the sky and intercepted it midair and dispersing it before the fireball could reach the ground.

Annette glanced up with a serene smile. High above, Selene caught her gaze and responded with a smirk and a shrug, her expression radiating smug confidence as if to say, "Don't mention it."

Annette chuckled quietly, the sound light and genuine, even in the heart of the fight.

But the moment of calm was short-lived.

From the enemy's side, a sudden surge of Magic filled the air. A sharp hum vibrated through the battlefield like tension in a drawn bowstring.

Yara now starting to move.

The enemy's Battle Mage, cloaked in a dark mantle of power, had finished her incantations. Magic surged around her and she rose into the air, cloaked in crackling Magic. Her eyes locked onto Selene above the trees.

She was airborne now and decided to hunting her.

Darel's order had been clear she have to take out the flying witch. Yara intended to do just that.

On the ground, Esther's lips curled into a knowing grin.

She'd seen Yara take flight and that only made her job easier.

"Let her chase Selene. That's fine by me," Esther thought, watching with narrowed eyes."Don't worry, Selene. I'll join you soon. Just let me wrap this up."

Esther's own opponent stood not far away. It was another witch but clearly support-focused type. Her spells were slower and defensive like shields, reinforcements, or buffs to keep her party from breaking.

Esther, on the other hand, was made for destruction.

Her grip tightened around her staff. She didn't need to protect her allies because Annette was already doing that just fine.

She raised her staff and fired a searing firebolt, aiming straight for the opposing witch. Instantly, a shimmering barrier sprang up, it was a standard defensive shield. The bolt hit and flaring on contact.

But it wasn't over.

The spell detonated mid-impact, bursting into a cascade of firecracker-like blasts. Bright sparks and smoke exploded in front of the enemy witch filling her vision with heat and noise. She was blinded.

By the time the smoke cleared, Esther was already there.

She surged forward, closing the distance in a blink. With both hands gripping her staff she swung it with surprising force.

CRACK!

The wooden staff slammed into the side of the enemy witch's head with a solid thud, sending her sprawling.

"Haha!" Esther laughed, unable to help herself. "Take that!"

She twirled the staff once in her hand, flames still dancing at the tip. Her next target was already in sight.

---

High above the battlefield, Selene hovered in the open sky, her gloves crackling with arcs of electric power and then she saw her.

The enemy Battle Mage had finally taken to the air. Her body shimmered with Magic energy. But Selene only smirked.

"Oh, you can fly now?" she said with mocking tone. "Took you long enough. I do it instantly. All that prep time just shows that you are slower and weaker."

Yara didn't respond. Her eyes burned with angger as she ground her teeth and then charged.

Selene snapped her fingers.

A circle of lightning flared to life before her theen she hurled it straight at the incoming Yara. The spell howled as it tore through the air only for Yara to throw both gauntleted fists forward and smash through it.

The circle exploded in a violent burst of light and sound.

Selene's expression shifted into a stiff stunned look as the smoke cleared and Yara was still coming while grinning now.

Selene didn't hesitate. Shee moved backward while sending bolts of lightning down at Yara as she retreated through the clouds.

But Yara punched them one by one. Her arms glowed with Magic and each blow shattered the lightning bolts before they could land.

"Tch!" Selene gritted her teeth. "Then try this."

She thrust both hands forward and conjured a massive lance of lightning.

Yara's eyes widened.

Selene hurled the lance with all her strength.

Yara roared and crossed her arms, bracing herself. The lance struck her guard and detonated.

The shockwave tore through the air like a clap of thunder.

All that commotion spreading into the forest. A battle at that scale will certainly attract the attention of the forest dwellers.

Usually they will be avoiding the battlefield. But this time what walking in the forest was not just animals or tribesman. It was the grey creatures from the other dimension.

They all coming to the sound of battle with interested feeling from all sides.
