Prologue
Seoul Arcane Online.
With 4.7 reviews, and over 140 million downloads, it was fair enough to call the game the best game of all time.
The graphics were godly-tier, making every environment look breathtakingly real. The background music perfectly matched the mood of each stage. The animations were smooth, with every character’s movement feeling fluid and lifelike. Players also loved the guaranteed SSR pulls, keeping them invested in the game, while the exclusive skins and limited-time events made sure they always had a reason to keep playing.
And then he ruined everything.
“Kim Suho!!”
The shout rang through the office.
Damn it.
I turned my head slowly, already regretting it.
There he was—Project Manager Kim Byung-chul.
The human embodiment of corruption and incompetence.
The last person I wanted to see.
Rumor had it he’d embezzled company funds. Harassed new hires. Every female employee under his team quit within months. But no one ever said anything.
He had connections.
And right now, he had me in his sights.
“How dare you mess up the game that everyone worked so hard to make!”
Kim Byung-chul glared at me, red in the face.
“If you don’t fix this right now, I’ll report you to the director and get you fired!!!”
I blinked.
Was this guy serious?
“Excuse me? Is there a problem, Manager Kim? I’ve already fixed the bugs and sent the file to the GM. If you have complaints, take it up with management. I’m not the one who messed up here.”
Kim Byung-chul's expression twisted. A vein stood out on his forehead, pulsing.
His cheeks shook with rage.
His breathing—
Heavy. Ragged. Like he was about to burst.
“You…! How dare you talk back to your superior like that!!” He jabbed a finger at me. “Don’t you know I have the authority to kick you out of this company—and worse, ruin your life! You’re just a mere game developer! Anyone can replace you!”
Right.
Three years.
Three years of overtime, unpaid weekends, last-minute crunches… and this is what I get?
If he wasn’t a manager, I would’ve already punched him in the face.
I clenched my fists.
Then forced a smile.
“I understand. I’ll fix the bugs and issues immediately.”
People were watching now.
Coworkers paused, pretending to work as they listened in, throwing side-eyes toward us.
No one said a word.
“Hmph! If you’d said that in the first place, I wouldn’t have wasted my time on someone like you.”
He shrugged it off and walked away.
I stood there, staring at his back.
And quietly thought to myself—
I want to quit this shitty job.
I was left alone in the office. It was already 11:50 p.m.
Fixing the bugs, and rewriting the stories that players were complaining about, all because of that pig bastard Kim.
﹂YellowTempest: Who the hell write this shitty ending on chapter 30? It doesn’t make any sense… this is just lazy writing.
﹂Whiteriver: The final boss is too much. It’s like they didn’t even test this. You can’t even level up enough to survive. It’s frustrating
﹂Moonlit_Swordsman: Damn it! I can’t believe this game ended like that. Was the story always supposed to be depressing?
﹂Rich_Heavenly_Demon_Chan: I’ve been trying to finish this game for months. But the quest chain after chapter 30 is completely broken. Just end it already. Stop dragging us through this crap.
I finished the last bug, sent the files to the GM, and leaned back in my chair.
It wasn’t over, but at least this part was done. For now.
Then the elevator dinged.
“Suho?”
I turned. There she was.
Kang Jiyoon.
My ex. She stood by the door, her presence almost unfamiliar now. Her face was the same, but everything else felt distant.
“You’re still here?”
“It’s late.”
“You haven’t changed.”
I didn’t respond. There was nothing left to say.
“I should go.”
She turned toward the door. Just before she left, she glanced back.
“Take care of yourself, Suho.”
And with that, she walked out.
A few minutes later, I heard the elevator again.
She wasn’t leaving. She was walking to the parking lot.
I saw the black car pull up.
Her boyfriend. He was waiting for her by the car, leaning against it with a smile. She smiled back and got in.
I stood there for a long moment, just watching.
I wasn’t angry. I wasn’t hurt. I was just tired. So damn tired.
She was the most famous person on campus. Everyone courted her. They thought they had a chance, but in the end, it was me. We were together for years, but somewhere along the way, we lost what we had. We broke up recently, and it felt like it happened without either of us really noticing.
It was already 2 a.m.
I was still here. Stuck in this office. No matter how much I wanted to walk out, there was always something else to do. The work never stopped.
My head was heavy, and my body felt drained.
I stumbled back to my desk, barely able to keep my eyes open. And before I knew it, everything went black.
♢♢♢
I opened my eyes.
The ceiling above me wasn’t the one I was used to. It was too clean. Too unfamiliar.
I sat up. My body felt off—lighter, smaller. My legs were shorter. My hands, too. I made my way to the full-length mirror near the closet.
And what I saw—
Pale white skin. Jet black hair. Black eyes. A sharp jawline and smooth features.
A typical high school student. Korean. Definitely not me.
I stared at the reflection in silence.
What the hell is this?
I was younger. Way younger. And this wasn’t just some dream.
A military-style uniform was hanging on the wall. Sleek black design, silver accents. It wasn’t your average school uniform.
This wasn’t some prank, was it?
That’s when it hit me.
I’ve possessed a character in the game.
What do you think?
