Chapter 209
Countess Corindel strutted confidently into the lobby of Halo Manor.
‘Why is she here all of a sudden?’ Penelope couldn’t hide her shock. For this woman to show up of her own accord? Such a turn of events had never even crossed her mind.
Countess Corindel was astonishingly shameless.
"Give me just ten days. I’ll find a way to drag my daughter back and have her kneeling demurely before the Grand Duchess."
Penelope remembered the words Countess Corindel had spoken to the Grand Duchess of Rahinsel as vividly as if it had been yesterday. She could still recall the malicious gleam in the Countess’s eyes at the time.
‘Has it already been ten days since then? Surely she isn’t planning to take Ivetta away now, is she?’
Penelope watched the Countess warily, ready to intervene if necessary.
Countess Corindel—Susan—offered a shallow curtsy to Penelope, her expression calm and poised.
"It’s a pleasure to see you again, Baroness Halo," she said.
"Indeed. I didn’t expect the Countess to pay us another visit," Penelope replied, her tone sharp.
"I wanted to see my daughter one last time before leaving the estate," Susan answered smoothly, her composure unshaken.
Her acting skills were extraordinary.
Susan was dressed in an exquisite silk gown adorned with a necklace of elegant emeralds. It was clear she had used the money from Karla to purchase such luxuries.
‘Is she really planning to leave Halo just like that?’
Penelope instinctively glanced sideways at Ivetta. Her face was pale, as if she might collapse at any moment.
‘This shouldn’t have happened. I shouldn’t have let them meet!’ Penelope scolded herself internally.
But she couldn’t think of a valid reason to prevent their encounter. After all, it wasn’t easy to stop a mother from seeing her daughter.
What do you think?
