How Zombies Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 248

The northern part of the barrier was breached.

And all electrical devices inside the barrier were smashed.

Ava is holding onto her senses and shouting orders.

Whatever the EL fanatics did, the interior of the barrier was solid.

One year since Ross Preston’s zombie invasion, LA has united and endured until now.

The military is now at a level capable of recovering all of LA, including beyond.

"Citizens are gathering at the northern wall with weapons, defending!"

"Confirmed zombie intrusion through the breached northern wall! Beginning to deal with them."

"No forces that appear to be fanatics. Only zombies are launching attacks."

"Ghost 1 Leader reporting, completed dealing with fanatics inside the city council and power plant."

"Ghost 2 Leader reporting, completed hunting fanatics mixed in with citizen shelters and LA’s main management departments."

"Ghost 3 Leader reporting, completed dealing with explosives at major facilities in east, west, south, and north."

Due to the dead radios, reports delivered verbally to the reserve command room poured in.

In the meantime, the existence of Ghost, directly established and managed by Ava, was revealed.

They were specialists who passed Arian’s training.

A special assassination unit prepared for the worst-case scenario that could unfold inside.

"Damn fanatic bastards! No matter how much you rage and go crazy! We won’t collapse!"

Ava gritted her teeth.

The achievements of the Ghosts were being heard from all over.

All of this was thanks to the information from the Las Vegas junk dealer survivors that Aiden brought.

By sending Ghost units to major facilities, they eliminated internal chaos.

Now all that’s left are the EL forces on the frontline and the zombies approaching the northern wall. With LA’s current strength, this much can be sufficiently handled.

Ava issued orders to dispatch additional troops to the breached northern wall and to block the hole even temporarily, then called another aide.

"Aide! As soon as the internal cleanup is finished, Ghost units and LA Combat Battalions 1 and 2 are to immediately join the 3rd defense line and push up! Spread this to each unit!"

As Ava’s order fell, the aides who received it ran out quickly.

The interior of the barrier began to be cleaned up rapidly.

"I was worried for nothing."

The door of the LA barrier reserve command room opened and Arian appeared.

"Why are you here?"

"The radio was cut off. Since I’m the one who can get here the fastest, I came to check."

"We’ve reaped the benefits of the Ghosts you trained."

"That’s good, though by my standards they’re still fledglings."

Arian said something that would make the Ghost unit members foam at the mouth and charge at her if they heard it.

"How’s the frontline situation?"

Ava asked Arian.

"Still holding out for now. The problem is the large number of zombies, is the radio recovery far off?"

"The communications team said it was a micro-scale EMP occurrence. They thoroughly targeted only the inside of LA."

"I don’t know where they got such a thing, but it seems they underestimated us too much."

Arian grinned.

"But, Commander, the number of zombies is quite large."

"If it’s just zombies, there’s nothing to worry about."

"If you have orders to deliver, tell me. I’ll deliver them quickly."

Ava requested Arian to deliver orders to immediately retreat the forces of each defense line back to the 3rd defense line.

"Alright. Ah, if you see Aiden, tell him I said to meet at the vanguard."

After delivering the message to Ava, Arian left the reserve command room.

"With this level of defense, I shouldn’t have to worry about Sadie, but I should clean up as quickly as possible and return."

Arian thought of Sadie and began sprinting out of the barrier.

* * *

At that time, Aiden had arrived at the southern part of the barrier.

He looked around the southern barrier in case of any unforeseen situations, but seeing no particular problems, he headed for the gate.

Aiden and the reconnaissance squad soldiers arrived in front of the gate and reported the situation to a soldier who looked like the person in charge.

"We’re reconnaissance troops from the Santa Monica defense line. We confirmed fanatics heading towards the southern barrier with C4, killed them, and brought the C4 they had."

"Is that so? Good work, it seems the fanatics made quite a lot of preparations."

"How’s the barrier situation?"

The soldier responded to Aiden’s question with a smile.

"No worries, the northern barrier was breached, but we handled the zombies coming in without difficulty, and we’ve finished dealing with the fanatics inside the barrier."

"That’s a relief."

The reconnaissance squad soldiers next to Aiden sighed in relief.

"Is it time for a counterattack now?"

"That’s right, from now on the main force is planned to join the defense line forces."

"I see."

Aiden left the reconnaissance squad soldiers with the soldier and headed for the reserve command room.

With the current strength, he probably wouldn’t be needed, but he thought he should report the situation to Ava.

Knock knock-

When he knocked on the command room door, Ava’s voice saying "Come in" was heard.

As the door opened, Ava’s figure preparing for battle was seen.

"Are you planning to jump into the frontline yourself?"

When Aiden asked, Ava shook her head.

"I need to guard the gate front after the main force leaves, so I’m planning to oversee the remaining forces."

"I see, I dealt with fanatics discovered in the south. They were carrying loads of C4."

"I don’t know where those bastards are getting such weapons from."

Aiden didn’t pay attention to Ava’s worry.

"It seems my role is over now, I’ll go find Sadie."

"Ah, there was a message from Arian."

"What is it?"

"She said to meet at the vanguard."

Hearing Arian’s message to meet at the vanguard, Aiden fell into thought for a moment.

His strength might not be very useful in a war like this.

He’s just at the level of one strong soldier.

Yet Arian looked for him. If so, he thought he had no choice but to go.

"Where exactly is the vanguard?"

"From now on, the LA forces are planned to advance in a fan shape based on the barrier. Then the vanguard would be where they’re directly engaging in combat with EL."

Ava pointed to a part of the tactical map.

"It’s Hollywood."

* * *

Arian first arrived at the San Fernando defense line and delivered Ava’s orders.

Then she immediately retreated the forces engaged with EL in the northwest direction and ran to the southwest.

The Santa Clarita defense line showed traces of fierce battle, but there didn’t seem to be major losses in troops.

They reported that they had killed 10 out of 30 mutants, and while continuing the battle, suddenly 20 mutants ran madly towards the northwest.

Arian delivered Ava’s order to abandon the current defense line and retreat to the 3rd defense line, as follow-up forces were planned to push up anyway.

They also began to retreat quickly.

And now.

Arian had arrived in Hollywood and was waiting for Aiden along with the gathering forces.

The sound of a motorcycle began to be heard from somewhere, and soon a bike appeared and stopped in front of Arian.

"Arian."

Aiden got off the bike and faced Arian.

Then, he took out a bag hanging on the bike and handed blood packs from inside to Arian.

"I thought you might run short on blood, so I brought some."

"Oh, nice timing."

Arian immediately opened one of the blood packs and drank it.

"Why did you call me?"

Looking at Aiden, Arian shrugged her shoulders as she emptied the blood pack cleanly.

"You’re the only one who can possibly keep up with my speed."

"What do you plan to do?"

When Aiden asked, Arian pointed her finger straight at the center of enemy territory.

"Breakthrough at a single point."

Aiden looked beyond where Arian’s finger was pointing.

In the far distance, the shape of a wave of zombies could be faintly seen.

"So you want me to follow at full speed and watch your back while breaking through."

"That’s right, I’ll adjust my speed, but ordinary people can’t keep up."

Arian’s eyes turned red as she opened another blood pack.

Gulp gulp

Aiden, who had been quietly watching Arian drink the blood, checked his armament status and then approached a soldier to ask for a shotgun and ammunition.

That soldier seemed to be a rookie, as he approached his superior and said something.

Aiden just watched that scene indifferently.

Meanwhile, Arian appeared with one more machete from somewhere.

"Does it start after the rear main force joins?"

"Probably, if they attack first we have no choice, but for now the all-out war is after joining up."

Aiden moved with Arian to the very front of the defense line.

Then, a soldier approached and handed Aiden a shotgun and an ammo belt with spare ammunition inserted.

Click! Click!

Aiden checked the condition of the shotgun and thanked the soldier who brought it.

"What do you plan to do after digging in straight?"

To Aiden’s question, Arian answered simply.

"Find their leader and take them out in one go."

"I see, that might be the fastest method."

"For that, we need to draw their forces as far inside as possible first."

Aiden nodded.

"Then we should wait, considering the current military strength, they should be able to handle even the mutants."

Aiden and Arian looked at the highly tense soldiers around them, then at the wave of zombies in the far distance.

"They’re moving, little by little."

Arian drew her machete.

Aiden also checked the ammunition for his rifle and then pulled the bike he had parked behind him.

Ignoring the puzzled gazes of the soldiers watching this scene, they continued checking their armaments and finished preparations.

"The rear main force is expected to join in about 10 minutes."

A soldier who came by jeep from the main force that left the barrier reported to the person in charge of the defense line.

Arian, who was quietly listening to that news, relayed the information to Aiden.

"10 minutes, huh."

"Surely they wouldn’t charge in now?"

Just as Arian finished speaking, a sound that shook the earth gradually grew louder.

"Speak of the devil."

Arian smiled brightly.

"Hmm."

"Can’t be helped, when I start, follow right away."

"Understood."

Aiden started the bike and waited for Arian to depart.

Across the defense line, in the far distance, a wave of zombies began to surge as if pouring down.

"Prepare for battle! Front mortars fire!"

Bang bang bang!

With the sound of mortar fire, the final battle with the fanatics began.
